Salvator Xuereb
1rst Lt. AJ Conaway aka "Buddha"
The Character: Demolitions expert AJ Conaway is a bit of a military traditionalist. His family have been in the miltary for generations. AJ is proud of their record, although he himself broke family tradition by joining the Marines instead of the Army. He went to the Citadel, and is sometimes teased about it by the others, especially Lindstrom. His less than enthusiastic attitude towards women in combat has earned him a talking to from his commanding officer and he is learning to "deal with it". Aj is honest and direct. He is always prepared to call it like he sees it and never backs down from a challenge.
His birthday is November 17, 1965.
He claims to have no favorite food; he's a "huge eater"
and can "pack it in like a linebacker."
He's too "neurotic" to have a hobby; he's always doing
something. But he does love writing.
As for sports, he loves playing ice hockey although he's not
really played in probably 10 years. He also loves football.
He attended NYU, but stopped after about a semester since he
decided that he really wanted to be an actor and it made more
sense, financially, to go to acting school instead.
The first thing he remembers which made him want to be an actor
was, when he was about 7 years old, seeing 'Butch Cassidy and the
Sundance Kid' and felt it was the "most incredible thing on
the planet."
How to become an actor? The usual -- taking
acting classes, hitting the pavement in search of an agent,
inviting agents to plays that he did, etc. And then,
"overnight -- actually, it took ten years, but overnight, I
became a HUGE success!" (Big grin here!)
His ideal vacation would be to go to an island in the Caribbean,
or skiing in the French Alps. But he hasn't taken a vacation in
ten years, so he really wouldn't know.
Although he loves to read, probably his favorite book would be
'See Rabbit Run,' by Johnathan Updike.
He grew up in "the GREATEST place on
Earth, New York City."
He, along with his brother and about four other buddies, would
cruise uptown, downtown, all through the subways in the city --
"it was great" to grow up there.
If he had to go to a desert island with only three things, he'd
take his wife, some music (preferably some blues) and a fishing
pole "so I can eat!"
As mentioned, his favorite music is the blues -- contrary to some
people's beliefs, he finds the music quite uplifting and will put
it on to lift his spirits when he finds himself down.
He'd have to list both his parents under the
heading of 'one person or thing with the most impact' on his life
-- "they're really great people."
His favorite author is Edward Albee, a playwright who wrote such
plays as "A Zoo Story" and "Who's Afraid of
Virginia Woolf." He finds the dialogue and story in these
plays "amazing."
