Bryce was born on April 18 in Reno, Nevada, the middle of three brothers. Bryce's parents divorced when he was five. He moved with his mother to Denver, Colorado, where he grew up. As a junior in high school, he saw his older brother on stage, ironically in a production of "South Pacific." Johnson was enthralled and knew that he wanted to become a part of the acting world some day. He graduated from Lutheran High School where, besides playing on the soccer and golf teams, he served as class president both his junior and senior years.

After graduation, Bryce and his mother moved to their new home in Sioux City, Iowa. He studied acting at a community college, and at 19 drove out to Hollywood. Johnson trained at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts in Pasadena, paid his dues working odd jobs, and performed in several student films. Johnson made his screen debut in the MTV comedy serial "Undressed." Josh in "Popular" is his first role as a series regular.
