America with them at the age of five. They initially settled in Boston but later moved to Texas in order to work a cattle ranch. It was while she was
still young that Jessamyn (Jessie as she was known then) that she started to pick up the skills that would later serve to earn her a living. A first
class shot almost from the moment she picked up a rifle, she quickly became an expert rider, capable of performing tricks in addition to more
conventional methods. In addition she displayed a talent for tracking animals. On the gentler side, she was blessed with a fine soprano voice, the use of which she received some small amount of training in by her musically-blessed mother.
Thanks to her mother considering these activities less than ladylike,
Jessamyn was sent back to London to live under the care of relatives not
long after her thirteenth birthday. A precocious girl, she soon created
many a scandal in polite society, culminating in her running away to Paris
to join the Bohemians at the age of sixteen. She lost herself in the
devil-may-care attitude for several years, earning a living as a singer,
dancer and a prostitute before her father found her and dragged her back
home. She had returned for only a few months before she created a scandal
by being caught inflagrante delicto with the Sheriff by the sheriff's wife.
Disowned completely by her family, and thus left destitute, Jessamyn (now
going by the nickname Jay) fell back onto her many and varied talents in
order to survive. Becoming a saloon girl in the township of Tuscosa, she
met Vin Tanner, a bounty hunter and sharpshooter who was in the area on a
bounty. Following him after he'd been forced to flee from accusations of
murder, for a while she joined in his hunt for Eli Joe, but after a falling
out she left to become a bounty hunter in her own right. This was when her
skills started to be used to their best advantage - her musical qualities
allowing her to become innocuous in a town, her past as a prostitute
letting her get close to the kill and her abilities with knife and gun to
either let her bring him in alive or kill him on the spot.
It just depended on if the poster had 'dead or alive'.
