Name: Thomasina “Tommie” Windmere Age: 19 Romantic Interest: Buck Cross. Background:
Tommie Windmere is moving to Rock Creek with a heavy heart. Forced by her prejudiced, tyrannical father to leave her home in Sweetwater after Mr. Windmere discovers Tommie has fallen in love with a half-breed, she is moving in with her Aunt Marge. Marge, who is Mr. Windmere’s sister, has long been the family outcast, known for her drinking and wild carousing.
Apart from her worries about her family, Tommie is heart broken at leaving Buck behind, not to mention the friends she has forged close bonds with. Not long after arriving in Sweetwater, Tommie stumbled upon Eshe in a dark alley after the girl was viciously attacked. Tommie soon ran into Austin, an old friend of her brother’s, who was in Sweetwater with an evil plan. Austin kidnapped the very rich Amanda DuBois; Tommie discovered Austin’s plan and tried to stop him, but she ended up being taken hostage also. During this time, she discovered the whereabouts of her long missing brother, Evan. He was working with Austin. Although animosity had always ran between the two siblings, Evan in the end helped his sister escape. Tommie returned to Sweetwater where she was found by Buck and Ike McSwain, who went on to rescue Amanda, killing Austin in the process and landing Evan behind bars in the Sweetwater jail. Because of these events, Tommie considers Eshe and Amanda to be her closest friends, even though she hasn’t gotten to see them much in recent months.
After the kidnapping ordeal, the Windmere’s forbade Tommie to see any of her friends, making her virtually a prisoner in her own home. Through some enterprising friends, Tommie did get to sneak out of the house a few times, including Eshe’s recent wedding to Kid, but Buck refused to see her anymore because he didn’t want to sneak around.
Tommie was miserable until one night when Evan managed to escape from jail and Buck came to check on her. They both confessed their love for each other until Mr. Windmere happened upon them. In a rage, he vowed to keep the two apart at any cost and the next morning, Tommie was on a train to Rock Creek.
Now she’s all alone in a new town with an aunt she can barely remember. Will Buck keep his promise to come for her? Will she ever see her friends again? Will her parents forgive her? And just where did Evan go after escaping from jail? It’s an uncertain future that Tommie Windmere faces in Rock Creek…
