Michael and Maria's Bio

The Character of Maria De Luca

Maria De Luca is undoubtedly the most delightful character on Roswell to watch, for a variety of reasons. Maria brings some much needed comic relief to the show, as her sarcastic humor and skittish tendencies lighten up the often somber mood of the show. Maria is a wonderfully loyal friend to Liz, and their friendship on the show is very touching. Maria comes from a broken home, and in many ways, Liz is like a sister to her. Maria is also a nervous wreck whose excitable nature has been increased exponentially by the revelation that three of her schoolmates are aliens. Maria also is kind and compassionate though, as she demonstrated when she chose not to tell Sheriff Valenti the truth about Max, Michael, and Isabel.

Recently, a whole new dimension has been added to Maria’s character, as she has fallen reluctantly in love with Michael Guerrin, the other male alien on the show. Michael and Maria’s constant bickering mask a deep passion for one another which they have acted on several times, creating both happiness and anguish for both of their characters. Both Maria and Michael seem afraid to admit the feelings that they have for one another, and this tortured but passionate romance is intriguing to watch. I look forward to seeing more of this entertaining and appealing character in the future.

The Character of Michael Guerin

Michael Guerin is in many ways the most complicated character on Roswell, and the most driven character as well. Unlike Max and Isabel, he has grown up in a very unhappy environment, being bounced around in foster homes with neglectful caretakers who have given him no support or encouragement. As a result, Michael has become a complete outsider, coming close to flunking out of school despite his hidden brilliance, and trusting no one but Max and Isabel. He has become obsessed with finding out the truth about his origins as a means to escape the world that he has come to despise, and he often acts in an impetuous way to achieve this goal. Michael is also the most emotional of the alien trio, and the one most likely to act on his feelings of anger.

Michael also has the least amount of control of his powers, due to his insecurity and inability to control his emotions. Recently though, he has come up against a new feeling that threatens to disrupt his feelings of alienation from everyone except his peers, his passion for Maria De Luca. It’s very obvious that these new feelings for Maria scare him a great deal, and he simply doesn’t know how to deal with these feelings, so for now, he has simply pushed Maria away. I look forward to seeing Michael’s character explored further as he experiences love for the first time in his life.
