Always by Alana
He had never thought the day would come. It was something he never even dreamed, no matter how horrible his
nightmares were, could have happen. It just wasn't possible. But life always surprises you.
It was a warm July night when he came back. Part of him always knew he would return. To be honest, he was surprised
he managed to be away from her for so long.
Away from her golden hair and blue-green eyes. Away from her smile. It was perhaps her most incredible feature, her
smile. When she smiled at you, you knew everything would be all right. You knew she loved you when she smiled.
But now her smile was cruel, twisted up in a bitter snarl. Her delicate mouth now held sharp fangs, red from a fresh kill.
"What's wrong lover?" she asked him. "Things a little different since you saw me last?"
"What happened?"
"He changed me. God, I've never felt so alive! No worries, no problems. It's an easy way to go."
"Who-?" he asked her. Rage burned through his veins, the urge to kill who ever did this to her was almost unbearable.
"He's already dead," she informed, as if reading his mind. "He was weak and foolish. He was easy to overpower, and I
killed him quickly."
"What?" he asked, confused. A vampire's loyalty to its sire was strong and not easily overcome.
"Ever wonder why no slayers had been changed before? Normal rules don't apply."
"Who was he?" he asked, wanting, no, needing to know.
"Riley Finn, Spike turned him." She laughed. "He never liked the dolt." He was silent, there was nothing to say to that.
"You never told me how much fun it was!" she exclaimed. "To listen to them scream. See the looks on their faces as you
rip out their family's throats." He turned away, repulsed by her words. "Oh come on. Haven't even got to the good parts
yet."
She circled him as an eagle circles its prey. "Giles was first," she informed, his discomfort bringing her joy. "Then
my mother. She made the sweetest noise as her blood trickled down the floor. Xander and Anya were next. They died
together. I thought it was only fair, for lovers to die in each others arms." She smiled, licking her lips. "But Willow was
my favorite. I made her watch it all. Watch the blood and hear the screams. She begged me to stop, but I wouldn't.
Then I finally tasted her. Her blood was so sweet. I considered turning her, but I took too much blood. It was so
good…"
"Stop!" he demanded, but she simply smiled.
"And it's all your fault lover. If you hadn't have left me they'd all be alive. Riley wouldn't have turned me, and I wouldn't
have killed. What's that do for your conscience?" She licked his cheek, then turned to leave.
He grabbed her wrist tightly and pulled her to his chest. He kissed her fiercely, all the built up passion and love finally
allowed to escape. She pulled away, shocked and confused.
"You-you still love me?" she asked. He nodded. "Even now? When I'm a killer?"
"Nothing could ever change that." She shook her head, struggling to deal with the surfacing emotions. She looked deep
inside of herself, into her past. And she was shocked by what she found.
"I think…I love you too. I mean still." He smiled and she grinned back. "And now we can be together. Just…let me
change you back."
"What?"
"Let me help you lose your soul. Then nothing will ever come between us again." He struggled, tempted by her offer. She
was right, this was their last chance. But he couldn't do it. He couldn't be a killer.
"I can't."
"Don't you love me Angel?" she asked teasingly.
"Always Buffy," he answered. She grinned again, and didn't see the stake he pulled from his coat. He touched her cheek
and she closed her eyes. Slowly he rose his arm, and she shrieked his name as he plunged the stake deep into her heart.
"Always."
