Tony Slattery's
Biography

{taken from Electronic Telegraph}

Slattery was born in north London to Irish working class parents. He was the fifth of five children yet had quite an isolated upbringing because his sister (Marlene) was much older and his brothers (Michael, Stephen, and Christopher) were triplets who tended to exclude him. This seperation from his siblings was exacerbated when, at the age of 11, he didn't go to the comprehensive they attended. Instead, he went to a Jesuit grammer school. After achieving three A-Levels, he won an exhibiton fo Cambridge.
Slattery was so caught up with Footlights that the excess of student life passed him by. "In terms of student pranks with police helmet and traffic cones, I was very well behaved. It didn't interest me, and I didn't belong to any clubs or societies which had masonic-type inauguration ceremonies," he says. "I joined the Archers Appreciation Society and the squash club instead. I probably drank a bit too much, but I never took drugs, fortunately they weren't 'in' then. All that interested me was Footlights."

Currently he is working as rector of Dundee University.
