Part 1
The cold wind nipped at Shelby's arms as she walked off the bus. She was about an hour away from Chris's house. Shelby grabbed her bags and walked over to a near by bench. A young man was sitting next to her holding a newspaper and a cup of hot coffee. Shelby quietly sat down a few inches away from him and pulled out a small bag. She looked over at the man then back to her bag. He watched her as she rummaged threw her bags to find something.
"What are you looking for Hon?" he asked sitting his newspaper down in his lap.
"Oh well just some change so I can call someone." Shelby shakily said as she found a dime in the bottom of her bag.
"Here's some." He smiled handing her, a hand full of money. She looked at his hand as he slipped it towards her.
"I can't take that, Its okay really, I'm fine." Shelby said looking at the ten-dollar bill and the hand full of change.
"I'm sure your better than just fine." He smoothly said eyeing Shelby and looking her up and down.
"I'm going to go thanks anyway." Shelby said jumping up and zipping her bags up and walking away towards a phone booth.
"I'll see you around sweetie." He called after her returning to his newspaper.
"This is not happening." Shelby said to her as she collected her thoughts and searched around for some spare change. She looked in the three phone booth slots finding a quarter. Shelby smiled at her small luck and continued searching around the booth. Shelby slid down the side of the wall holding her hands close to her chest she watched as men and women walked by in the busy town looking at her some in disgust some in lust. Shelby cringed at the thought of what her life was like before she came to Horizon's. Images of her past flashed into her mind as she remembered the many guys she had slept with for money and how dirty and awful she had felt. Shelby put the quarter in her coat pocket and left the phone booth walking down the street towards her nightmare.
A yellow sports car pulled up at a party as a group of girls and guys pilled out of the car and filed into the party. Chris was among the crowd holding a bag full of his favorite drugs and a girl in the other. She hung to his side laying her head on his shoulder and giggling the whole way into the house. Chris looked at her and put on a fake smile as he huffed a sign and followed his friends into his past, the past he thought he was over.
Shelby ran towards a trashcan falling to her knees. She threw her bags down by her side and flopped onto them. She pulled an old pastry from a foil wrapper and started to munch on it. Shelby rolled her eyes and laughed to herself. She couldn't believe that she was eating an old pastry in search of the boy that she had dumped. Was this fates way of showing her that she needs to be on the streets or is it fates way of showing her she really needs to help Chris and he needs to do the same for her?
Chris walked over to soft sofa and fell down with a burp. He rubbed his temples as he tried thinking about what he was falling back into his old ways. He picked up a cup and downed a beer and then looked back up at the crowed room. Tons of people swarmed around him calling out his name and trying to strike up conversation with him. All Chris could do or wanted to do was smile and wish he was back at Horizon's, back with Shelby.
Shelby blinked as the sunlight hit her face. She looked around then realized were she was. She picked herself up off the wet side walk and hugged her arms around her body. Shelby grabbed her bags and started walking towards a near by dinner. She walked in taking off her wet coat and slipping on a clean one and a new extra pair of shoes. She walked over to the bar and a waiter came up to her.
"What can I get you today?" he asked as he touched the tip of his tough to his pencil and flipped a note book up and out of his pocket.
"I'll have a class of O.J and a double order of pancakes." Shelby said licking her lips.
"Okay I'll be right back with your order."
Shelby looked around the dinner eyeing a young man in the back. He glanced up from his menu and smiled at Shelby. She turned back around holding her hands up to her face. She smiled into her hands when she thought of Scott. Not the other guy across the dinner but the love of her life. The man came up next to her holding out his strong hand.
"Hi I'm Shawn Lux what's your name?" he asked shaking Shelby's hand.
"Ah, Sarah Moore." Shelby said lying threw her teeth.
"Sarah, that's a pretty name, so what are you doing later today?" he asked smiling at her.
"Well, I was going to visit a friend in a town near by, and I'm well…" Shelby stuttered looking at Shawn's eyes as they were coming closer to her. "Shawn." She said turning her face away from his.
"What? Do you have a boyfriend?" He asked laughing to himself.
"Well, yes I do." Shelby said.
"Well, are you willing to have a new boyfriend?" he coaxed tilting her face towards his.
"haha, that's cute, but I really should be going." Shelby smiled turning away.
"Orders up." Called a women as she slid a plate of pancakes towards Shelby.
"Yum." Shelby said.
"I thought you had to go?" stated Shawn.
"I will go once I finish this." Shelby said sticking a fork full of pancakes into her mouth.
"I like a girl who loves to eat." Shawn laughed.
"I'm sure you do."
"Please let me just walk around the town and make sure you get safely to your friends house."
"Um I don't know."
"Please."
"Okay fine, but then I'm on my own." Shelby laughed.
"Deal." The man said.
Chris was lost in a kiss with another girl. He could not even remember her name. How was he supposed to tell from one girl to another? Every girl he kissed he could only think of Shelby. He drifted into deep thought about the girl he could never forget.
DESPERATE FOR CHANGING STARVING FOR TRUTH CLOSER TO WHERE
I STARTED CHASING AFTER YOU I'M FALLING EVEN MORE IN LOVE
WITH YOU LETTING GO OF ALL I'VE HELD ONTO I'M STANDING
HERE UNTIL YOU MAKE ME MOVE I'M HANGING BY A MOMENT HERE WITH YOU
Shelby followed the man into the near by hotel. She stripped off her over shirt and coat and fell onto the bed with Shawn. He ingrossed her in a kiss. Shelby could only think of Scott and Chris at that moment and quickly pulled away from him.
"I have to leave now. This is not fair to Scott my boyfriend." Shelby said picking up her things and leaving Shawn dumbfounded.
FORGETTING ALL I'M LACKING COMPLETELY INCOMPLETE
I'LL TAKE YOUR INVITATION YOU TAKE ALL OF ME
I'M LIVING FOR THE ONLY THINK I KHOW
Shelby ran out of the hotel and towards the nearest phone booth she had grabbed some spare change from Shawn's counter and slid it into the slot. She dialed Peter's number listening to the distant ringing in her ear.
RUNNING AND NOT QUITE SURE WHERE TO GO
I DON'T KNOW WHAT I'M DIVING INTO
I'M HANGING BY A MOMENT HERE WITH YOU
Chris pulled away from the girl wiping his hand across his mouth. "I have to find Shelby." He said to himself as she hurried out of the party and towards his house and towards the phone.
THERE IS NOTHING ELSE TO LOSE THERE IS NOTHING ELSE TO FIND
T HERE IS NOTHING IN THE WORLD THAT COULD CHANGE MY MIND
THERE IS NOTHING ELSE.
Shelby listened to the ringing in her ear for a few minutes longer. She was just about to hang up when she heard a mans voice. "Horizon's this is Peter speaking."
"Peter, its me, Shelby." Shelby said into the phone.
"Shelby were are you, are you at Chris's house?" Peter quickly asked.
"No, but I think I'm about an hour away. I'm going to take a bus to his town and then I'll call you when I get there. Give Scott my best, and I have to go the bus is loading. Bye, and thanks Peter." Peter heard the dial tone in his ear and hung up the phone smiling to himself. He knew Shelby would be okay, he knew it.
Daisy walked with David towards his cabin. She looked behind her and noticed Ezra was trying to flirt with some other girl from another Horizon's group. Ezra being Ezra the girl brushed him off. Daisy felt bad for him, he picked her and she picked David, but that was how she felt at the time but not all she feels is confusion and loneliness. David leaned in to kiss Daisy as she pulled back away from him.
"What's up Dais?" he asked a weird look on his pale face.
"Nothing, I just think it would be better if we kissed in your room, you know." Daisy said looking out past David in the direction of Ezra.
"God I love you Daisy. You mean your ready?" David asked.
"Yea, I, I, I lo…. I'm ready." Daisy said.
"Prepare of the adventure of your life." David said into Daisy's ear as he pulled her into the boys cabin locking the door behind him.
Scott walked out of the lunchroom and followed the path towards the boy's cabin. Elaine was walking with the Horizon's doctor. Scott muttered under his breath and started to walk the opposite direction from Elaine and the doctor.
"Scott, Scott come here." Called Elaine waving her hand in the air.
"I'm kind of in the middle of something." Scott called still walking in the opposite direction.
"Scott Barringer please come over here." The doctor ordered.
"Okay what?" Scott stammered walking towards the two women.
"I need to take you to get tested and then Elaine will be tested and from there we can come up with the answer to if this is your child or not." Said the doctor.
"I hate you Elaine you know this is not my kid. There's no way in hell it would be." Scott screamed into Elaine's face.
"Scotty well see, trust me we shall see." Elaine said in a hushed voice.
Shelby walked off the bus holding her breath for a second. Could this really be Chris's house? It's so different from what I pictured. She thought to herself. Shelby walked onto the stone sidewalk making her way to the front door. Was she just supposed to knock and say hey it's me Shelby may I come in? Shelby laughed and knocked on the door, no answer. She knocked again, sill know answer. Shelby giggled the door handle then she bent down and looked under the rug for a spare key, she was in luck. Shelby opened the door and walked into the large hallway leading to the living room, kitchen, stairway and other various rooms. She guessed that Chris's room would be upstairs so she walked silently up the creaking steps. Shelby walked over to the first door and peaked in, not his room. She walked to the next door and it was the bath room. Finally she made her way to another door that had a keep out sign on it and a few other various posters plastered to the front. "This must be his room.'' Shelby said smiling. "Chris hey it's me Shelby." She pushed open the door slinging her arms open to embrace Chris but looked down at the ground and saw him spiraled out on the floor not breathing. "Shit, Chris, are you okay." She asked dropping down to listen to his heart. She felt his pulse and then started to do CPR on him. After that she grabbed the phone off a near by receiver knocking things off his shelves by accident in the rush and dialed 911. "Hello, you have to help me. My friend is in his room not breathing I think he could be dead. Please don't let him die, I love him too much. Please help me. He lives on Chestnut drive house number 567." Shelby cried into the phone her words hardly coming out of her mouth. "Don't let him die." She said into the phone then dropped to the floor along with the phone.
"Hello, miss could you tell us his condition. Hello miss." A voice said from the phone. "Hello." Shelby was laying next to Chris her eyes were shut her face was streaked with tears and for all she knew Chris was dead.
