"Thank you daddy," Noelle lifted her veil to kiss him on the cheek. "My only regret is that Mama isn't here to share this with us."

"Oh, but she is sweetheart. She is always with us, because we hold her memory in our hearts."

Their eyes suddenly met over the babies' heads, each smiling at the tears they were trying to hide from each other. Kid swallowed hard and leaned forward to cradle her cheek in one hand. Lou looked so tired, he thought to himself. With a small smile, he kissed her tenderly and gently, trying not
to move the mattress too much and hurt her. Pulling back, he nuzzled her nose with his. "Thank you, for carrying my babies" he whispered huskily.

"I can't take all the credit for this ya know," she teased gently. "You had a good deal to do with them comin' into the world, ya know that. You're welcome and thank you."

"For what?"

"For not coming back to me six months ago," Lou replied. "For not leavin' me an hour ago when I yelled at you and said all those horrible things to you. I didn't mean any of them, honey. I love you."

"Wait for what, Kid. You're right. We are going to die soon. Why should we wait now?"

"If we got out would you marry me?" he asked.

"We should have done that a long time ago, Kid. I don't know why I was so scared."

He took her in his arms and they spent the last of their energy with each other.

"I need you, Jimmy," she replied simply. "You have to help me through this. I have to go on living, and I need your help to do that, otherwise I'll slip. It's too easy right now to just give up. Will you help me, Jimmy?"

"I seem to recall askin' to help you for the rest of my life."

"I'll take that as a yes, then?"

"Take that as an absolutely."

They sat together, Jack leaning back into Jimmy's arms, until the sun set down over the horizon and Lou called them into supper.

"She looks like you."

Sidney blushed, "No she's definitely her father's daughter." She watched as Buck smiled tenderly at his daughter, and took a deep breath. "Buck?"

"Hmm?"

"I've been thinking about her name."

Buck looked up at Sidney, "Well Star is named after her grandmother Clara, and Angel was named by Rachel. She thought she was a gift from her God."

Sidney smiled, "I was thinking we could name this little one Sarah."

Buck's eyebrows shot up and he looked from Sidney to his daughter and back again. Sarah, he couldn't believe Sidney would think of it.

"You mean that?" He whispered.

Kid had smiled at her gently, and put his arm around her shoulders, pulling her to him in a protective embrace and saying "Yes, he's gone, and I swear no one will ever hurt you again. Not while there's breath in my body, Lou."

(Barkeep's Note:  This is absolutely an excellent story!  It was the very first one I read and was an inspiration while I was writing "Confessions."  A must-read for all Kid and Lou fans!!)

Kid lay in a bed in a quiet upstairs room. Doc had told them that he'd
hopefully recover, but he still hadn't regained consciousness. The bullet had lodged itself in the ribcage. No damage was done to his lungs, but he'd lost a lot of blood. Only time would tell.

Lou looked at her husband. His pale face looked so peaceful, as if he were sleeping. She sat down, taking his hand in hers.   "I love you, y'know," she whispered, tracing his forehead with  her fingertips. "Whether your Josiah, or Kid, my heart will always belong to you. Nothing will ever change that."

"Lou, you're disturbing me more by sittin' there!" Kid frenetically tried to move himself to the side, clinching his teeth he finally succeeded in freeing a spot for Lou. "Come on, there's just enough room for ya." With his left hand he took Lou's and pulled her towards him.

"You're so bullheaded," she said as he tried to make her lay down besides him.

"That ain't contagious," he remarked as he struggled. Weak as he was his effort was pointless and Lou stood her ground.

"Do I have to beg?" he pleaded. Watching his forehead fill with tiny pearls of sweat she finally gave in. Afraid he would totally strain himself otherwise. Carefully placing herself besides him she snuggled into his sane side.

"Seein' as I have some problems movin' around' ya think it's too much with one more favor?"

"What?"

"It has something to do with lips meetin...'"

 "Does this mean I'm forgiven?"

"Lou, you're always forgiven, it wasn't your fault any ways. I hope you can forgive me for my foolishness? I'm so sorry Lou, I should've listened. I should've.."

"Hush Kid, don't talk too much. You need your rest."

"How about the lips meetin'? That's what I need most right now!"

Lou chuckled happily and kissed him quickly on his lips. Teasingly she withdrew and placed her face only an inch from his and gazed into his eyes. Kid slowly closed his in anticipation. He drew his lips to hers and they kissed hungrily, forgetting everything around them. Content to be in each others embrace, they both fell asleep entwined in each others arms. Lou finally sleeping calmly for the first time in days. Kid held her close, trying to stay awake to watch over her. But the secure feeling having her close evoked in him, made him fall asleep too, his lips pressed against her hair.

The crowd, save Seth snickered at the implication.

The preacher cleared his throat and completed the ceremony, a little red in the face. "You may kiss the bride." He lost track of time and place and only came back to reality when he heard Jimmy's comment. "Hey you two, we are in a church ya know? Get outta here, you need a few days alone.... maybe a few weeks!"

He finally let go of her and once again scooped her up into his arms and headed out of the church. He had made arrangements with Rachel - she'd be staying with friends for a few days. He carried her towards Rachel's house, each filled with the anticipation of the reunion of both their bodies and their souls.

God, I've been such a fool, why didn't I just follow my heart, instead of my head? When she looked up, Kid had turned his back to her and was leaning up against the wagon. "Kid," Louise began. Is it too late? Can I undo what I just did? "Can I ... Can I change my mind?" She finally blurted out and held a breath.

Kid looked back at her and asked, "Are you sure?"

"Kid, the only reason I said no was because I wanted to give my father a little more time to accept you for you. I want him to be at my wedding and I want him to accept my husband. If he gave you this, then that means, he has accepted you."

"It is a good day to die," He whispered pitifully.

"Don't say that Curly. Time will help, I promise."

"There is no time," Curly sobbed, "I must join her soon!"

                        **************
Kid nodded and controlled the urge to snap at Jimmy for not watching her more closely.

Instead he eyed Jimmy's clothing, "Nice outfit."

Jimmy raised an eyebrow, "Wait till you see Lou."

Kid sighed, and his voice was soft when he said, "I can't wait."

Jimmy nodded, and looked away to hide the pain on his own face, "I'm sure she feels the same way. Let's go find her."

The two men rode off together in search of the woman they both loved.
                                   **************
Lou let the gun slide out of her hands and fell onto her knees beside Curly. He lay on his side. Blood was running out of his mouth, and it gurgled in his throat. There was nothing  she could do. Curly was dying.

The insanity and senselessness of it nearly drove Lou mad. She pushed his long curly hair from his face, unable to find any words.

"It is-a good day to-die," he whispered to Lou.

                                   **************
They needed no words as he stepped forward and wrapped her in his arms. Lou had never felt so safe in her life. Kid gently sank to his knees with her and rocked her for what seemed forever, while the others watched.

Jimmy sighed sadly. It was as it should be.

                                  **************
"I mean, Lou was called Fire Dancing, so I figured they had to call Jimmy something like Dumb Bear, or Crazy Bird or something…"

Everyone laughed while Jimmy glared at Cody dangerously.

"So what did they call you?" Noah wondered, "Or did Cody guess it?"

"Silver Guns," Lou supplied, keeping a straight face.

"You gave him strychnine?" Lou hollered. Buck was surprised at the amount of
voice there was in the tiny woman. "I'll kill you damned useless idiot
doctor!" Her voice made Buck jump at every word.

Buck heard her cock the gun in the same instant that Theresa stepped out of
the teepee.

"Lou dammit!" she yelled.

"He's gonna kill Kid, Tessa. Don't listen to him, he wants Kid dead!"

I'll just hold your hand till you fall asleep," she told him.

As their hand clutched onto each other's and their fingers entwined Kid
smiled.

"Never let go."

"Not as long as I breathe," Lou smiled back at him as his eyes drifted shut.

There are so many more lines and words in this story.  I just cannot give them all to you, but I can tell you it is worth the reading -- as I have done at least 10 times or more.  I just love it so and so will you. -- Dana
