The Amish
Nightmare!
"Rutlanders" trash peace of rural Pennsylvania for 22 minutes of tv. Meanwhile, locals say that Christina Ricci is a slut, but Doug Bush wants her back! Doug's search for Tanya on ABC's "The Rutlanders" is taking him across the country, but not everybody is laughing. Especially not the residents of Amityville, Pennsylvania, where the hit sitcom recently wrapped up shooting an upcoming episode. "The
completely trashed the village," says the mayor, John Smiley. "After
the
finished taping, they left garbage everywhere. And miles of camera
rail,
or whatever you call it These people have no idea what to do with this.
They live simple lives, raising sheep and horses. What are they
supposed
to do with old Safeway grocery bags?"
Since the shooting wrapped in October, several children have been observed asking their folks exactely what those "big things" were (camera, of course), but their parents have no explaination- many have never seen a tv camera. "I don't know what to tell them," says Mavis, mother of 14. "I just say that they could see god through the looking hole, but thye still have questions, I know they do." Another sticking point? The portrayl of the Amish on tv. When the town was invited to the local firehall to watch the episode, many were appauled at how they appeared, "You know, we're not a bunch of bumpkins. My neighbour recently purchased a listening device- a radio? Some new fangled thing. And my master recently took a trip to Des Moines, where he learned all the latest farming techniques." More troubling yet, the central character in the episode, Molene, was played by Christina Ricci, whom many fear. "My kids have seen Casper at the drive in. The last thing we need is some witch to come into our town with all her witchcraft and plant ideas in our children. And the outfits, that Christina girl is nothing but a hussey." Her behavior in the episode was somewhat short of saintly. Several times she propositions Doug for sex, which has citizens up in arms, They don't like that Molene was trying to deny her Amish heritage by jumping into the "new" world. "We
like ti here just fine. I was an investment broker in New York before
the
cotcom bubble burst. Fortunately, I sold all of my stock in
toiletpaper.com
just before it went bust. Looking for a simpler life, I gave all my
money
to charity and came here to make a life. It's good here. We like it,
besides
the West Nile virus that has gone around a few times.
But will Doug Bush listen? Fortunately for him, nobody here has a television, so the ratings are non existant. And plus, her wants Ricci back on the show. Sources close to the stars say that he was so impressed that he wants her back ASAP. The episode of "The Rutlanders" in question airs this Wedesday at 9pm/8 central on ABC. |
