Soap Opera Update -- April 15, 1997
The first -- and
most legendary -- supercouple of daytime has to be Luke and Laura.
In 1981, pictures of Geary and Francis were plastered on almost every magazine
in America. Newsweek dubbed GENERAL HOSPITAL "TV's Hottest Show."
With a cover shot of L&L, it was pretty clear who the newsweekly credited
for the success. Two months later, the dynamic duo made history when
a record-breaking number of viewers tuned in for their wedding.
What makes them so enchanting? They are the perfect marriage of actor and character. So identified are they with their roles, viewers do not want to see either as another character -- nor could the roles be recast. These actors have created a once-in-lifetime magic and, fortunately for them, we will accept no substitute.
