Chapter 59
Lucky had agreed to watch Lulu while Lesley went to the store.
He walked into Lulu's room and heard her crying out for her parents.
He rushed over to her and picked her up, holding her like he had so many
times before. He was worried about them too, but he knew why they
had to leave, and had confidence that they would come back soon.
Lulu on the other hand didn't understand why some woman had taken her older
brother. She couldn't understand why anyone would want to harm Nikolas
or her parents.
Once Lulu stopped crying, Lucky lifted her onto his shoulders
and was going to bring her downstairs. Suddenly a huge crash came
from downstairs. Lucky quickly hid Lulu under her bed, placing anything
he could find to hide her. He then went into his room and found his
bat, ready to find out where the crashing sound came from.
He quietly was descending the stairs, being careful enough not
to allow any of them to creak. He didn't even get halfway downstairs
when he noticed two men in his house, searching the place. The first
thing that popped into his head was a robbery, but suddenly his father's
warning rang through his ears. Helena might come after them because
he would be in Greece. Lucky got upstairs quickly and grabbed Lulu
from under the bed, carrying her to the window and down the fire escape.
Once they hit the ground, he ran off to the one place Helena's men would
never find him.
Nightfall had come in Greece, as Luke woke up from his nap.
He was about to wake the others so they could head towards the house, when
Laura woke up screaming. Luke rushed over to her and wrapped her
in his arms. "What's wrong, Baby?" he asked.
"Our children," she said quietly, shaking even more. "Something's
wrong."
Luke grabbed his cell phone and called the house, but he didn't
get a response. He dialed the operator, hoping that it was just a
mistake, but he operator confirmed his fears. The number was no longer
working. ‘Someone must have cut the phone lines,' he thought, as
he quickly placed the cell phone in his pocket.
Laura stared at Luke the whole time he was making the calls.
She could tell that the phone lines were down by his body language.
Helena's men had struck their house, and probably kidnapped their children.
This went beyond just getting revenge on Nikolas not being Stavros' son.
This was her grand attempt at revenge on anyone who ever dared to cross
her path and get the better of her.
As soon as Sonny woke up and heard Laura say that Lulu and Lucky
were in danger, he called Jason and told him to find the kids and to keep
them safe until everyone returned. Jason promised Sonny he would
protect them, and told Sonny just to concentrate on his own mission.
Sonny hung up the phone, satisfied that Jason would do as he has just promised.
He went over to the Spencers and tried to reassure them.
At the same time, Sean had called Felicia, making sure that Anna
was safe. He was pretty sure that Helena would have no reason to
go after his daughter, but he couldn't take the chance. Felicia had
told him that she was playing in the backyard with Georgie. Sean
asked her to keep them inside for the rest of the day, and Felicia agreed,
not asking any questions.
Sean was dialing the police station next when Tiffany took the
phone from him.
"No, Sean. Sonny just called Jason to find the kids.
It will only cause more of a chaos if the police are involved also."
"Tiff. My men can protect them. If Jason keeps them,
they'll be hiding from both the mob and the Cassadines."
"Jason will make sure they are safe. I know Sonny would
never do anything to put those kids in danger, and if he called Jason,
then that's probably the best way to keep them safe. Your men can't
stop the Cassadines, Sean, because they have to stick to the law.
The law can't stop Helena. It's been tried and has failed a lot of
times."
"The law has never been tried," Sean said angrily.
"Trust me. You don't know this family like the rest of
us do. I lived with them for a short while. Laura was kidnapped
by them. Luke has come up against them time and time again and still
hasn't been able to win. Sonny saw what they're capable of also.
Everything you've heard about them has been greatly understated," Tiffany
said. Sean nodded his head no, but Tiffany continued. "Yes,
Sean. Understated. I know it's difficult to believe, but this
family is beyond cruel. Beyond evil. You'll see for yourself
in due time, and when that time comes, you'll see what the rest of us have
feared."
Sean agreed to keep the police out of it, and he and Tiffany
went over to the others. Laura had calmed down a lot after Luke had
reassured her that Lucky would not allow himself to get caught or for anyone
to take Lulu.
"Do you think you should call Ruby or Bobbie?" Sean asked.
"No. Lucky knows not to go to family. Those places
will be the next to be hit, even though it will be in a more discreet way,
I'm sure. Ruby and Bobbie will both be safe because Helena's after
my children. Lucky will probably hide out for a while before getting
some help," Luke said.
Laura agreed. Her face, once filled with nothing but fear,
was now filled with nothing but anger. Earlier that day she had told
Luke that he could have Helena if they came face to face with the woman.
Now she wanted Helena for her own. No matter what happened, Laura
had vowed to make sure that Helena was no longer a threat to her family
once this was all over.
Lucky had run, carrying Lulu the entire time, until he reached
his destination... the catacombs. It was the only place he could
think of where he would never be found. Plus it allowed for surveillance
of his own. If Helena's men discovered this place, he would be ready
for them.
Once they got inside the catacombs, Lucky put Lulu down and continued
to walk further through the tunnels. He knew each tunnel inside and
out, and knew the perfect place to hide inside. After walking about
15 minutes, making a lot of turns through the maze, he had motioned for
Lulu to stop and rest. She collapsed onto the ground as Lucky took
his outer shirt off and covered her to try to keep her warm. He then
went to the entrance of the one tunnel that led here, and waited to see
if they had been followed.
Stefan and Alexis stayed in Stavros' room for a long time, getting
as much rest as they could get until searching the house for Nikolas.
They shared the bed that once belonged to both Stavros and Laura.
He hated this bed more than he hated the Spencer bed. This bed prevented
Laura from admitted what he believed where her true feelings for him when
she was on the island. If Stavros didn't marry Laura, then maybe
she would have become his wife instead, and never have had the need to
go back to Spencer in the first place.
Luke, Laura, Sean, Tiffany, and Sonny each had the plan set in
their heads, ready to make a move towards the house. The men checked
their guns to make sure they were loaded, and quickly placed them behind
their back. To their surprise, Laura and Tiffany had guns of their
own, and did the same. No one argued as they all knew that they might
need to use to guns to get away, and the more guns they had on their side,
the better their chances.
They quickly moved through the wilderness in the direction Laura
remembered the house being. After an hour, they were finally able
to see a part of the house through the trees. It seemed bigger than
Luke and Laura remembered it to be. And it seemed even more uninviting.
Once they got to the edge of the trees, seeing the house perfectly,
Laura had motioned for everyone to follow her. If she remembered
correctly, there was a small secret entrance that was never used.
Stefan had shown it to her once when she was late coming back from being
with him. She had been able to sneak into the house without being
noticed, and when Stavros questioned her whereabouts, she just said that
she had been wandering the house and got lost. Luckily he was too
drunk to argue with her that night, and she never had to reveal her secret.
They all reached the secret passage and went inside. Luke
turned on his flashlight, and Sean and Sonny quickly did the same.
They walked down a tunnel for a long time before reaching a spot where
the tunnel dividing into three directions. Luke and Laura agreed
to go one way, Sonny another, and Sean and Tiffany taking the final way.
They had agreed to meet back in this spot after an hour to compare notes.
Sean and Tiffany walked for a half hour before they spotted a
small line of light on the floor. Sean turned off his flashlight
and walked over to that one line of light. Obviously this was a way
into one of the rooms, but they didn't know which one. He pressed
his ear against the door to see if he could hear anyone on the other side.
There was complete silence, so Sean opened the door slightly and took a
peak inside.
It looked like a library that hadn't been used for a while.
He opened the door more and he and Tiffany walked inside, inspecting the
place. It was spotless, so someone had to come here often to clean
it, but other than that, it showed no marks of anyone using it. All
the books were tightly jammed into place, almost impossible to budge.
The chairs left huge marks on the rug as if they had never been moved,
just cleaned around.
Tiffany started touching things, seeing if there was a sign that
someone had been in here. She tried moving more and more books, seeing
if any were loose as if just been placed back. Suddenly, one book
almost fell into her hands, but suddenly stopped midway before falling.
Then the bookcase moved to reveal another secret passage. Sean flashed
a light inside and noticed that it was filled with cobwebs. "No one's
been in here at all," Sean said, as he gestured for them to make their
way back to the meeting spot.
Sonny walked down his tunnel for a while before coming to another
fork. This time he was alone, so he would have to choose. He
decided to go left, hoping it would lead him to somewhere besides another
set of tunnels.
As he walked, he heard some sounds coming from behind the wall.
He set down his flashlight and tried to listen it. All he could hear
were two male voices, but he couldn't make out what they were saying.
He ripped off a button, placing it down in the spot he had heard the voices
so he would know where to come back later. He then headed back and
decided to see if he found anything interesting in the other tunnel.
He walked the other tunnel for even longer when he came to a
dead end. He searched for any sign of a door, but he couldn't find
one. He slumped down onto the ground out of frustration. Suddenly,
as he leaned against the wall, it began to open. He quickly shot
up and walked inside.
The room was completely dark as Sonny started looking around.
He found that it led to another room, a bedroom. He looked around
at the pictures and saw that it must have been Nikolas' room at one time.
He saw paintings of horses and pictures of him as he was growing up.
He even found a picture of Laura and Stavros by the bed. He was surprised
at how comfortable the room looked. He didn't think Cassadines could
be this comfortable. Sonny took one more quick glance around the
room before meeting the others.
Luke and Laura walked down their tunnel, quickly and quietly.
They had reached a dead end of their own as Luke pushed the wall, seeing
that it did open. They walked inside and found themselves in some
sort of lounge area. Laura searched the room as Luke walked over
to the door, daring to take a peak outside. No one was around.
He turned back to Laura, telling her with his eyes to stay put while he
checks around a little more.
Luke walked through the hallway, taking a peak in every room
that was had no light shining underneath the door. It appeared to
be the servants' area of the house. Men were sleeping in their beds,
and no guards were in place. ‘Nikolas is definitely not here,' he
said, as he walked back to the room he came from.
Laura, in the meantime, had searched the entire room to see if
there was any sign that Helena or Nikolas had been in here recently.
She did find a newspaper article written about Stavros' death behind a
chair. In the article, the picture of her and Luke was ripped out.
Laura placed the article back where she found it and looked out the window.
From what she could remember, they were in the east wing of the house.
She only remembered servants living on this side of the house. She
knew Nikolas would not be kept here because he probably befriended too
many of the servants when he was a young child.
Luke came back and filled Laura in on what he found. She
told him that she figured that out also. They were about to make
their way back to the others when the door they both heard someone outside
the door. They quickly hid as two people entered the room.
"Nikolas doesn't appear to be very happy," a young man said.
"He will get used to his surroundings in enough time. Trust
me," an older man said.
"Has Madam Cassadine gone forward with the next part of her plan?"
"With her pathetic excuse of a son and that sister of his locked
up for now, she almost has everything she wants. All we need now
is Luke Spencer to complete her new prison of revenge. And poor Master
Nikolas. He doesn't even realize he will be the one to control if
any of them live or die."
"What about his mother? Is she a part of this plan?"
"If she stayed in the states, then by now she is dead, along
with her other two children. If she is here with Spencer, then she
will die in front of his eyes. Either way, she will not be alive
to see anyone in her family again."
The two men laughed as they left the room. Laura held onto
Luke for her life, as he tried to control the rage that had built up inside
of him. He wanted to kill the two of them right were they stood,
but he knew it would only warn Helena of his arrival. The time would
come when he would get his revenge. All he had to be was patient
for now.
