Pick Up Sticks
Chapter Four:

"What are we doing here?" Antoinette asked looking around.

"I come here when I want to get away, no one knows about it," Kevin replied, arranging a blanket on the ground.

"I know about it," Antoinette came over to him.

"It can be your place too if you like," Kevin said sitting on the blanket, "come on, sit down beside me."

Antoinette joined him, "I love the moon and the stars," she said looking up at the sky, "it gives me a feeling of -- a feeling I'm not alone."

"You're not," Kevin looked at her and then laid down flat on his back.

Antoinette laid her head on his chest, "I know I'm not alone, I can feel your heart beating."
"Why are you my friend?" Antoinette asked, out of the blue a while later.

"Because, well, I'm not sure. My gut is telling me that I want you as a friend," Kevin replied as honestly as possible.

"Your gut?" Antoinette giggled, "my gut is telling me that I want you as a friend too, although I don't why, I hardly know you."

"We know enough," Kevin tucked his chin to his chest moving slightly, trying not to disturb Antoinette.

"I guess we do, but I have the feeling were more than just friends --, " Antoinette looked at him, "best friends, maybe?"

"'Best friends', that sounds right to me," Kevin tucked a few strands of hair behind her ear.

"Where have you been?" Dawn asked incredulously, "The warden will be here soon."

"The 'warden'?" Antoinette chuckled.

"You were out with Kevin. Weren't you?" Dawn nosed, "he wasn't there either," Antoinette turned away from Dawn's penetrating glance, "oh, I knew it, I knew it! So, what did you and Kevin do?"

"Nothing -- really," Antoinette deterred, "it was nothing. We just -- we looked at the sky. Do you like the sky?"

"I, uh, I guess," Dawn looked at her like she was crazy, "you like him don't you? You like him like him."

"It's just, you know that feeling you get, when you know you're not alone?" Antoinette wondered aloud, ignoring her question and getting her pajamas out to change.

"I'm not really sure what you're talking about. I've never really been alone, my father's always been there for me. I never knew my mother, though."

"You've never had that feeling," Antoinette plopped down on her bed, "that even though you might be surrounded by people, that you're all alone?"

Dawn contemplated the question carefully, "No," she shook her head.

"Lucky you," Antoinette said barely audible, more to herself than anyone else as she laid down curling up in her bed.

What did ya'll think of this one? I don't know, should I continue the one's about her as a child? I like doing her past the way I kinda see it, but I don't know how much ya'll are enjoying it.
