Disclaimer: I don’t own them. They belong to Joss Whedon.

Rating: G

Distribution: To anyone that has my first two fics, please take this one as well. If someone else wants this just ask.

Summary: Buffy and Angel are living back in the 1700’s.

Dedication: To Febe, this is her challenge. I’ll post it at the end of the fic. I figure that if I post it now you won’t read the whole story.

Author’s note: This is my first try at writing a period piece. Febe, please e-mail me. I lost your addy. As for research I used a comic book called “Ruse.” You’ll see that Buffy will be called Elizabeth from time to time. It’s also the same with Angel with him being called Liam. So I’m saying this now so none of you will get confused reading it.

Feedback: Love it. Hate it. I need to know. It’s the only way I’ll know who’s reading it.

The story that’s about to unravel is about two people that grew up in the same time, but were treated differently in the eyes of society. They had no idea how different their lives were. All they knew was that they had each other and one would protect the other. They both created a bond that they knew could never be broken by anything or anyone.

Elizabeth “Buffy” Summers was the only daughter of Hank and Joyce Summers. Buffy’s family in the town of New England, New York ruled for generations and generations. Buffy was to take over later on in her life and marry a proper man that would be good to her. Though Buffy was only three-years-old and she had no idea how different she was from her friends.

Well speaking of friends Buffy had one close friend that she liked a lot. Liam “Angel” McMillan was Buffy’s best friend. He was five-years-old and always had this protective side over Buffy. He wasn’t your ordinary boy though. The McMillan’s were an ordinary family and they also worked for The Summers. Angel’s father was their butler and Angel’s mother was the maid. Even though Angel shouldn’t be around Buffy due to his status their parents allowed it for now because they were children.

~*~*~*~*~*

Buffy and Angel were sitting on the swings just letting the cool breeze hit their faces and the sun shining brightly outside. Buffy was dressed in a white dress with a matching ribbon on her pigtails. Angel on the other hand had white shorts with a matching t-shirt. They both kept on swinging until Buffy just went a little too fast and fell off the swing.

“Ow!” Buffy had fallen off the swing and somehow scrapped her knee in the process. Angel quickly went over to Buffy’s side.

“You okay, Buffy?”

“It hurts Liam,” Buffy said pointing at the red scar that appeared on her right knee. Angel’s brown eyes looked at scar intently as if he knew exactly what to do remedy her pain. He lightly blew on her scar and then kissed it.

“My mommy always kiss my boo boos. You feel better now?” Angel asked smiling.

“Yes. Thank you Liam,” she said and then quickly kissed him on the lips. Angel was surprised by the kiss because he never expected it.

“My hero. My Angel,” she said smiling back at him. Angel blushed at the kiss that Buffy gave him. He knew that only people that kissed were mommies or daddies.

“My name is not Angel. It’s Liam,” he said seriously.

“No. You are Angel. My Angel,” she said seriously.

“Okay.”

~*~*~*~*~*

Angel and Buffy stayed by the swings until they were picked up by carriage to bring them both back to their home. As soon as they made it home it was time for them to part. Though before they did Buffy talked to Angel once more.

“Angel.”

“Yes, Buffy.”

“I had fun today,” she said smiling.

“Me too,” he said smiling back.

“Bye, Buffy.”

“Bye, Angel.”

~*~*~*~*~*

Buffy always enjoyed her time with Liam. He was her best friend after all.

“I’m going to marry Liam,” she said smiling to her parents.

“That’s nice sweetie. But you can’t marry Liam. You’re going to marry Riley,” Hank Summers answered.

“Na-uh. I’m going to marry Liam! Liam! Liam!” Buffy didn’t know Riley and could care less about him. Liam or Angel as she called him was her hero. Though Buffy didn’t understand the differences between her and Angel. Yes, they are both children, but in the eyes of society Angel will never achieve the status that Buffy was in. She was rich and he was poor.

~*~*~*~*~*

Liam returned home when his mother had told him that Doyle was waiting for him. He couldn’t wait to tell his best friend about his moment with Anne. She had decided to change his name and call him. He knew that if Doyle heard that name he wouldn’t stop laughing.

“Hey Doyle,” Liam said shaking Doyle’s hand.

“Where were you?”

“I was with Elizabeth. You know that.”

“Okay. Let’s play.” Doyle really didn’t care about girls. He just wanted to play and be with Liam. Both boys kept playing until Mrs. McMillan called out Liam for dinner.

“Liam, dinner. Say goodbye to Doyle.”

“Bye Doyle.”

“Bye Liam.”

Buffy kept thinking about her kiss with Angel. He wasn’t Liam anymore to her. Buffy was dressed in a yellow dress with matching ribbons for her hair and shoes. Today she was heading to school and hang out with her friends Cordelia Chase, Alexander “Xander” Harris and Willow Rosenberg. She was thrilled to see her best friend Cordelia.

“Cordelia!” Elizabeth exclaimed. She ran over and hugged the brunette.

“Elizabeth!” Cordelia was dressed in her pink dress that especially made for her by the family’s tailor. Her long brunette hair was in pigtails with pink ribbons. She had pink shoes that matched her dress.

“We are in school.”

“Yeah. I want to go home.”

“Oh, stop that Cordy!” Buffy couldn’t understand why Cordelia dreaded being in school. Buffy looked around the school and spotted Angel and smiled and waved at him.

“Who you waving at?” Cordelia asked.

“Liam. He’s over there with Xander and the other boys,” Buffy said smiling.

“Liam! Are you crazy!”

“No. I like him. I kiss Liam.”

“Eww! That’s gross. He’s got cooties!”

“No, he does not!”

~*~*~*~*~*

On the other side of the room Liam saw Buffy yelling at Cordelia Chase. ‘What did Cordy do to Buffy?’ Let’s just say that Liam never liked Cordelia. Her family The Chases was another rich family in New England, New York. Cordelia’s parents have taught her to be snotty to local people in town. Though Liam thought differently about Buffy’s family. She was nice to him. That was enough for him. You know after all what more could a five-year-old think of?

“Hey Liam, who are you smiling at?”

“At Elizabeth,” he said with a smirk.

“Ooh, you got a girlfriend!”

“No, I don’t. Elizabeth and I are friends.”

“I don’t like yellow hair. I like her friend with the brown hair,” Doyle said smiling.

“Oh, you mean Cordelia,” Liam said sarcastically.

“Cordelia. It’s a pretty name.”

“Oh, please!”

~*~*~*~*~*

Everyone was quiet as their teacher entered the classroom. She was tall with a blue coat. As she took it off she had a two blue piece outfit. Her skirt was long and flowing and as for the top she had a white turtleneck with a blue jacket on top. The jacket was opened by circle neckline with puffy shoulders and slim against the arms. The rest of her jacket accentuated the curves on her upper body. Her brown hair was wrapped up in a small bun with loose tendrils falling off her face and on the nape of her neck.

“Good Morning children.”

“Good Morning teacher.”

“My name is Miss Calendar. I hope that this year you will all learn a lot from me. Okay is everyone ready to learn?”

“Yeah,” they all said enthusiastically. She smiled and proceeded to write the lesson plan on the board. She then assigned each of the students a lesson and sat behind her desk scanning the number of children. Jenny realized that she had a full class of students and hoped to make it successful for them this year.

~*~*~*~*~*

There was a little redhead girl that was sitting quietly n her seat learning to write her ABC’s. Willow Rosenberg wasn’t as wealthy as the Summers, but her family wasn’t working as servants. Her family owned all the inns in town.

Willow was so concentrated on her ABC’s that she didn’t notice the person behind her. He placed hands on her ponytail and yanked it.

“Ow!” Willow exclaimed. Willow said with tears streaming down her cheeks.

“Yeah Xander. That’s mean,” Buffy said walking towards the boy.

“So. You’re just a girl,” Xander huffed.

Angel noticed that Xander was about to hit Buffy. He wasn’t about to let his best friend get hurt by anyone. He quickly walked over to Buffy’s side.

“Xander, stop this,” Angel told him calmly.

“No.”

“Yes. Say sorry to Willow.”

“No.”

“Yes. Say sorry Xander.”

“No.” Xander was about to hit Buffy and Angel stopped him by punching him in the nose. Xander fell down and he got a bloody nose.

“Yeah!” Doyle exclaimed.

Miss Calendar quickly went over and saw Xander Harris on the floor.

“The both of you are in trouble,” Jenny said to Angel and Xander.

“Not fair. Liam’s the hero,” Buffy whined. She went over to him and took her small hand into his and pulled him out of the crowd and sat back in her seat. She examined his hand that looked really big next to hers and noticed it was red all around his knuckles.

“Does it hurt Liam?”

“Yes,” Liam said sadly. She picked up his hand slowly not wanting to hurt even more and lightly kissed it.

“Boo boo better?”

“Yes. Thank you.” He had to say that, but his hand was hurting like hell.

~*~*~*~*~*

Liam knew that when he came home his mother was going to ask him how he got that bruise on his hand. He was going to get into more trouble after he explained how he got it.

“Hi mommy!” Liam went over and hugged his mother.

“How was school Liam?”

“It was fine.” Ellen McMillan looked her son over and noticed that his right hand was red.

“Liam, what happened to you?!”

“I hit a boy at school,” Liam said honestly.

“Liam, you know that hitting is wrong.”

“Yes, mommy.” Ellen quickly went to get some ice and placed it over his knuckles.

“Ow! That hurts.”

“I know sweetie, but this will make the pain go away.”

“Okay.” Ellen added ointment and then wrapped his hand in a piece of cloth. She then kissed his hand.

“Better?”

“Yes. Thank you mommy.”

“So Liam, why did you punch this boy?”

“Yeah, Liam I’d like to know that too?” John McMillan said entering the room.

“Well Xander was pulling Willow’s hair. Then Elizabeth told him that it was mean. So next thing I knew he was going to hit Elizabeth. So I hit him first,” Liam said smiling. He was proud of himself.

“Liam, next time don’t do that.”

“Yes, daddy. Go to your room until we call you for supper.”

“John, I can’t believe you didn’t punish him. He hit a boy.”

“I know that. He hit that boy for Elizabeth Summers. You know how he feels for her. They are just friends. It’ll past. Those two are from two different worlds.”

~*~*~*~*~*

So after the fight between Liam and Xander both boys weren’t seated near each other. In the vacation seat was a student named William “Spike” Spencer. Spike as he preferred to be called had just moved from England. He wasn’t too thrilled being surrounded by Yankees. Though he had no choice because he was a kid.

“Hey,” Liam said smiling at the blonde boy.

“Hey. The name’s Spike,” he said with a smirk.

“Spike?! That’s a strange name.”

“It’s William, but I like Spike. It sounds scary.”

“Sure. Okay Spike. I’m Liam.”

“Cool. What happened to your hand?” Liam was about to answer, but Doyle quickly jumped in.

“He punched Xander for his girlfriend Elizabeth.”

“She’s not my girlfriend! We are just friends! Okay.”

“Okay. Gee don’t bite my head off.”

~*~*~*~*~*

The weekend had finally arrived and the firsts week of school was over. It was time for the children to enjoy two days of relaxation. Though for the parents their day have just begun. Ellen McMillan had to make sure that dinner was ready for the Summers at six pm. As the meal was consummating on the stove she quickly checked on Liam and his younger sister Kathy.

“Liam, Kathy where are you two?”

“Here mommy,” Kathy said laughing. Liam was tickling his kid sister.

“Mommy, tell Liam to stop!”

“Leave! Leave your sister.”

“No. She started it,” he said still tickling his sister.

“Stop it Liam! Mommy tell him to stop,” Kathy said in between giggles.

“Liam, leave your sister alone.”

“Okay.”

“You almost finish mommy?”

“Yes. Sweetie. I just wanted to check on the two of you. I can’t stay. So I’ll see you two later,” she said and kissed them both.

~*~*~*~*~*

Buffy and her parents were sitting in the dining room waiting for dinner to be served.

“So what you learn in school sweetie?”

“Well Daddy I learned my numbers and my ABCs,” Buffy said smiling.

“That’s good.” Then afterwards the food was being served. Buffy wanted to finish eating so she could play with Cordelia.

“Mommy, can Cordelia come over and play?”

“Sure. Let me send John over to pick up Cordelia.”

As soon as Cordelia arrived, Buffy and her went upstairs to Buffy’s room to play. Both girls were playing with the dolls when Buffy decided to say something.

“Cordelia, do you remember the fight with Liam and Xander?”

“Yeah. So what?”

“He’s the hero. He saved Willow from Xander.”

“Who cares! Liam’s a nobody.”

“Not true. He’s nice and sweet.” ‘I also like him.’ Buffy was afraid to tell Cordelia this because, she always saw Liam as no one.

~*~*~*~*~*

Liam was up in his room with his sister Kathy and they were playing.

“Kathy, I have a secret to tell you.”

“What’s a secret?” Liam laughed.

“A secret is something cool that you don’t want to tell anybody.”

“Oh, okay.” Though Kathy was still clueless.

“I like Buffy. Don’t tell mommy and daddy.”

“Cool. Why not?”

“Just don’t okay?” He really couldn’t explain why, but he just knew that he liked Buffy.

“Okay, Liam,” she said smiling at her brother. He felt a sigh of relief. He knew what a chatterbox her sister was.

* 11 years later*

Things have changed for everyone in the past eleven years and they have grown, matured and aged. All the children that were once three and five are now fourteen ad sixteen. Buffy and Angel also noticed the changes between them.

Buffy was now becoming a lady. She graced the figure and had curves on her body. Her blonde hair was much longer and as beautiful as ever. Buffy opted for a flower dress because today was her fourteenth birthday. She was going to invite all her friends. As Buffy was twirling around in her dress, her father stepped into the room.

“There’s my birthday girl.”

“Daddy!” Buffy ran over and hugged her father. He let go of her and looked into her eyes.

“Happy Birthday Elizabeth!”

“Thanks Dad.” Hank noticed that his girl didn’t have pigtails anymore. No she was becoming a young lady. ‘Well Buffy won’t be falling in love yet. I know for sure that her childhood crush on Liam is over. She will never be with that stable boy!’

“Well I’m going to step out and some flowers in the garden,” she said kissing her father and heading out the door.

~*~*~*~*~*

Liam was in the stables piling up the hay and feeding the horses. Piling up hay and doing other chores in the barn was his job at the Summers house. Though he hated this job, the only reason he kept doing it was that he could see Buffy. He still used the childhood name because he felt that it suit her more. She would always be Buffy to him no matter what.

He was sweating not only because of the heat, but the work as well. His white shirt practically clung to his body as is it were second skin. He took his hand and wiped the sweat off his brow. Liam couldn’t stand the heat anymore and so he stepped off his shirt.

~*~*~*~*~*

Buffy had been thrilled that it was birthday. Her parents had not approved of her being in the company of Liam McMillan. He was after all the son of the servants in the horse. She was not to associate with the likes of them. Though Buffy just didn’t care. Angel had been her friend since she was three. Besides that she noticed that Angel getting better looking through the years.

Buffy though that she’d surprise Angel during his chores at the barn. It wasn’t the first time that she’d seen him there. Buffy made her way to the barn and entered, but the sight before her shocked her. She saw Angel’s bare back full of sweat glistening down his back. His muscles were flexing as he took the pitchfork and piled up the hay.

“Oh,” she gasped. Angel turned around and saw Buffy.

“Buffy,” he said smiling. He had the feeling that he was embarrassing her.

“I’m sorry. I just didn’t realize that you had no shirt on,” she said blushing. Her cheeks were turning red because besides her father, Angel was the first man that she’s seen without a shirt.

“So you like me without the shirt,” he said teasingly. That remark made her blush even more. He always knew how to tease Buffy.

“I’m sorry Buffy. I’ll put my shirt back on.” Then he walked towards her.

“Is this better now?”

“Yeah.” ‘Not really. I really liked seeing you without the shirt.’

“So today’s the big day huh?”

“What would that be?”

“You know your birthday.”

“Oh, yeah that.” He just smiled at her remark. He had a gift for her, but he figured that this first gift would be better than the one he’s giving her later. The way he looked at her with those brown eyes she knew that he was up to something.

“What?” He then started to lean further towards her as she ran out of the barn. She wasn’t fast enough for him so he caught a hold of her behind the barn. His hands were by her shoulders and fell towards her waist. Angel’s heart was beating so fast he wondered if Buffy heard it. Though Buffy wondered the same thins also.

‘Is he going to?’ He then moved a lock of her hair out of her face and leaned in to kiss her. As their lips touched it was like magic. Her right arm squeezed his left bicep. Angel then slowly released the kiss. He looked at her and noticed that her eyes were still closed as if she were dreaming.

“Buffy?” She opened her eyes and looked right at him and smiled.

“Wow.” She couldn’t believe that Angel kissed her. She had been waiting for something like this. It made her really happy that he made the first move.

“I found you a gift, but I thought that you’d want this one first,” he said smiling.

“Thank you.”

“Happy Birthday Buffy.” She smiled.

“So what were you thinking?” They both sat down nearby the barn.

“That I can’t believe that you are finally kissing me.”

“Is that the only thing you were thinking about?”

“Now if I told you everything it wouldn’t e fun,” she said teasingly.

“Tell me or will I have to tickle you to death.” Buffy got up and started running into the barn and Angel followed her. He grabbed her by the waist and started tickling her.

“Tell me Buffy.”

“No, I can’t,” She said in between giggles.

“Okay then I’ll just have to try harder then.”

“Okay, okay I’ll tell you.”

“I’m waiting.”

“I really liked seeing you without your shirt.”

“Oh, really? So would you like me to take it off for you?”

“Yes! No!” Each of her responses gave Angel mixed signals.

“So which is it?” He then took his shirt as if he was and her hands lay on top of his to stop him.

“Don’t. Maybe another time,” she said smiling shyly.

“Okay. But I do have something else to give you. It’s not much.” Angel went looking around the barn and found it. It was two things that he holding in his hands.

“Here.” She took the single red rose and brought it to her nose. It smelled se sweet. Then she took the cloth that wrapped up something. As she slowly unwrapped it, what was revealed was a bracelet with a heart on it.

“It’s so beautiful Angel.”

“Look what it says.” She took the silver-hearted charm and it said Buffy and then on the back it said Angel.

“Thank you so much.” She then hugged him and asked him to put it on her. She looked into those brown eyes and felt love for him.

“Elizabeth, where are you?” Joyce Summers asked.

“I’m coming mother.” Buffy picked up her rose and was about to leave.

“Buffy?”

“Yes, Angel.” He leaned in once more and kissed her.

“Happy Birthday.”

“Yeah. Thanks Angel.”

~*~*~*~*~*

5

Buffy left the barn with a smile on her face. She was thrilled that Angel kissed her and the lovely gifts that he gave her as well. She found her mother in the garden.

“Hello mother,” she said bending down and kissing her on the cheek.

“Happy Birthday Elizabeth.”

“Thank you mother.” Both women were out in the garden picking flowers. It was something that the both of them use to do when Buffy was a little girl. They’ve decided to keep that tradition going.

“So Elizabeth are you excited about your birthday today?”

“I sure am mother. This day seems like it’s never going to end,” she said smiling.

“I can see that from your smile.” Joyce noticed what or who made her daughter happy. She also noticed how her daughter clutched onto that single red rose in her hands. Then there was also a bracelet that she never saw as well. ‘Does she have an admirer? Is he someone I’m going to meet one day?’

~*~*~*~*~*

Liam finished up his chores, when his best friend Doyle entered the Summers’ stable.

“Hey Liam.”

“Doyle, how’s it going?”

“Nothing much. So what’s up?”

“Nothing really,” he said smiling.

“I know that smile Liam. Who’s the girl?”

“I’m not saying anything.”

“Come on. You can trust me. I’m your best friend since forever.”

“Okay I’ll tell you. It’s Elizabeth. I kissed her today.” It was like a relief that he told Doyle this. He doubt that he could have kept that inside him.

“You what?!”

“You heard me Doyle.”

“I know. I’m just surprised.”

“Hey, if I recall when we were kids you liked Cordelia Chase.”

“Ah yes Cordelia. She’s a breath of fresh air,” Doyle said smiling.

“Yeah and she’s out of your league.”

“So is Elizabeth.”

“Yeah, but the difference between you and me is that Elizabeth likes me. Cordelia doesn’t like you.”

“I’ll change that. Cordelia Chase will be charmed by me and will fall in love with me.” Liam laughed at Doyle’s response.

~*~*~*~*~*

Elizabeth was up in her room with her friends. She had Cordelia, Willow and the newest member Faith. Faith wasn’t like the rest of the girls. She was tough and didn’t take shit from anyone and that included guys as well.

“So Elizabeth, you enjoying your birthday?”

“Of course I am Willow. I have my friends with me and we get stay up all night long talking and having tons of fun.”

“So what present did you like the most Liz?” Faith asked.

“Was it mine?” Cordelia asked.

“I loved your gift Cordy, but it wasn’t that.”

“Then who’s?” At that question being asked Elizabeth thought of her kiss with Liam. Her friends noticed that she had a dreamy look on her face.

“I kissed a guy.”

“Who is he? And how come I’ve never met him?”

“You know him Cordy. It’s Liam.”

“Liam! Liam McMillan, the stable boy of your home.”

“Yes. Could you stop calling him that?”

“So is a good kisser?”

“It’s just like you to ask Faith. Yes, he is.”

“I’m so happy for you,” Willow said hugging Buffy.

“Thanks Willow. At least some of my friends are happy for me.”

“I would, but it’s Liam.”

“Have you seen Liam lately, Cordy?”

“Yeah. So.”

“Well lets just say I saw a sight of him that I thought I’d never see,” Liz said dreamily.

“You saw him naked?”

“Naked! Of course not Faith that’s a little too much for me. I saw him without a shirt.”

“Ooh. He must have had muscles and all huh?” Willow asked.

“You got that right. He looked so good. There’s no way no girl couldn’t be attracted to him.”

“So tell us how it went.”

“Okay. You sure you wanna here Cordy?” Liz really didn’t care whether or not Cordy would say yes because was gonna explain the story.

“Sure.”

“Everyone knows that Liam and his family works for my family. Well the both pf us have been friends. The thing is as we got older, we noticed the changes between us. So for every year we would always do something for the other’s birthday. I was totally surprised by what he gave me.”

“So what was it?”

“Hold your horses Faith. She’ll tell us,” Willow said.

“We always meet up in the barn. So I decided to surprise him. I walked in and spotted him from behind without a shirt. His muscles were moving each time he grabbed some hay. I said oh and he turned around. He looked even better up front.”

“I bet he did,” Faith asked.

“As I was saying, he was shirtless and he started teasing me. He put his shirt back on and he chased me and we kissed outside of the barn. It was so sweet how he kissed me.”

“Did he get you anything?” Cordy asked.

“Of course he did Cordelia. That’s not the point. He kissed me. He gave me a rose and this bracelet.” All the girls were looking at her bracelet.

“It’s so pretty.”

“He really does like you Liz.”

“Yeah, I know.”

“Though it’s too bad that things can never serious between you two. He’s a servant and your rich. The both of you don’t mesh well.”

“I don’t care Cordy. I like Liam. I don’t see him that way. I just hope that as my friend that you won’t tell my parents about this.”

“I won’t Elizabeth.” ‘I know that if I did she wouldn’t be my friend. That also doesn’t mean that I won’t try to tell her parents as well.’

~*~*~*~*~*

6

Both Buffy and Angel couldn’t help but think about their kiss. It was the first time that the both of them actually revealed their feelings for one another. It’s true as children that they liked one another, but this was a different type of feeling. The only downside to all of this is that neither of their parents could know. If they did those two would be separated and never see one another. So what’s the next best thing and a sure bet that the parents won’t notice. Sneak around.

Buffy made sure that when she visited Angel that her parents requested something by Angel or his parents to take care what’s necessary.

“Hi Angel,” she said smiling.

“Hey Buffy,” he said smiling back. She walked over to him and handed him a letter.

“Read this. Then meet me later at out special place,” she said and then kissed him on the cheek.

~*~*~*~*~*

Riley Finn was enjoying this fine day with the company of his best friend Alexander “Xander” Harris in the park.

“So do you think I’ll meet a nice girl?’

“Sure you will Riley. I think I know the perfect girl for you.”

“Who?” Riley was curious who she was.

“Elizabeth Summers.’

“Well describe her to me.”

“She’s petite with long blonde hair. Her eyes are hazel and the most beautiful smile.”

“I can tell that you know a whole lot about her.”

“Yeah. We were in grade school together. We still are in school together.”

“Well when can I meet her?”

“As for officially not now, but I can let you see her from afar.”

“Okay.”

~*~*~*~*~*

Buffy and Angel met up in their secret place, which was by the lake. The view was amazing. The grass was as green and smelled liked rain from earlier in the morning. The sun was shining brightly with the blue sky was so clear with white clouds that you can see for miles. As for the two young teenagers it didn’t matter what the weather was just as long they were in each other’s company.

“So you wanted to see me?” Angel asked smiling.

“You bet I did,” she said smiling back. Buffy couldn’t help but stare at his smile. She loved how his smile would make her heart melt.

“Tell me again,” he said raising his eyebrows. She pulled him down to her height and kissed him. His hands went around her slim waist pulling her closer to his body. Her fingers sifted through his hair while the other hand was at his bicep. Both of their bodies were flushed up against one another feeling the heat from their kiss.

Angel moved his lips away from Buffy’s and trailed down the smooth column of her neck.

“Hmm. Angel,” she moaned. His back was against a tree. Her fingers in his hair massaging his neck encouraging him on as he kept on nibbling neck and knew for sure that it was going to leave a hickie. He let go and looked into her eyes.

“You look so beautiful.”

“Thank you,” she said shyly. She always felt special whenever Angel called her beautiful. She was definitely enjoying her time with him.

He continued smiling at her. He could never get tired of staring at her or her smile. Though a part of him felt that someone would entered their life and take her away from him.

“Buffy, if a young man courted you would you be willing to be his?”

“Why would you ask me that?” Buffy was surprised by his question.

“You are a very beautiful young lady. What man wouldn’t want you?” He knew he wasn’t in her league and status.

“Angel, you have to know that the only man I want is you,” she said smiling.

“You sure?”

“Absolutely. Now kiss me.”

~*~*~*~*~*

Riley and Xander were walking in the streets and Xander spotted Elizabeth with Liam. She looked absolutely stunning as usual.

“There she is Riley,” Xander said pointing at the blonde. Riley turned his head and noticed her.

“You are right. She’s lovely. I can’t wait to actually get to know her acquaintance.”

“You will. Very soon.”

“So who’s that young man that’s with her? Is that her man?”

“No, he works for the family. Liam McMillan is the stable boy. So you have no worries.”

“Good. Then tomorrow Elizabeth Summers will finally meet her man. Me,” Riley said smiling.

~*~*~*~*~*

7

Angel woke up this morning with a huge grin on his face. His afternoon with Buffy was just perfect. He was thrilled that Buffy said that he’s the man that she wants. He was so happy that he almost didn’t hear the knock on his door.

“Can I come in Liam? You dressed?”

“Sure. Come on in Kathy.” His fourteen-year-old sister entered the room and sat by his bed.

“Good Morning brother,” she said and kissed him on the cheek. He kissed her back.

“Good Morning to you too. So what brings you here?”

“I wanted to talk to you about Lizzy.”

“What about Liz?”

“Do you still like her?”

“Yes.”

“But you know that mother and father would not approve of this.”

“I know that Kathy. That’s why it’s staying between the both of us.”

“Sure Liam.”

“Promise me Kathy,” he said seriously.

“I promise Liam.”

“Good. Well why don’t we see what we can have for breakfast.”

~*~*~*~*~*

Liam was in the stables when a young man approached him.

“Spike, how’s it going?”

“I’m okay.” Both men shook hands.

“So what brings you here?”

“I thought we could head over to the tavern and have a few drinks.”

“Sure. Just let me finish up here.” Liam finished up his chores for the day. He then headed into the house and told his mother that he was going out.

“Let’s go.”

~*~*~*~*~*

Liam and Spike are at the local tavern and were starting on a round of drinks. As the drinks were being served, the more relaxed the two gentlemen had became with one another the more drunk they got.

“So Liam have you seen any pretty ladies that you’d like to get to know better?”

“No. I’m not looking.”

“You. Come on! There’s got to be a lady that you fancy.”

“Well there’s one.”

“Who is she mate?”

“Her name’s….” Liam was about to say her name when a young lady approached them.

“How are you gentlemen doing tonight?” She was eyeing Liam, but he was clueless.

“Fine now that you are here,” Spike said smiling.

“Likewise,” Liam responded.

“Would you like another round of drinks?”

“Sure thing luv.” Both men continued drinking when Spike had to remind Liam that he didn’t answer his question.

“So who’s the lady you fancy?”

“Her name’s Buffy,” Liam said grinning.

“Buffy? What kind of name is that?”

“It’s a nice name. I like her name.”

“Is that the only thing that you like about her?”

“How could you say that! Buffy is beautiful and everything that a man would want.”

“Okay. I get it. She’s your lady.” Liam just smiled and kept on thinking about his Buffy.

~*~*~*~*~*

Liam was returning home with Spike. Both men were singing and laughing with all the alcohol they consumed. There arms around each other’s shoulders.

“Buffy’s they girl I’m going to be with forever. You hear me! Forever!”

“Okay mate I hear you.” ‘I have the feeling that the rest of the town heard you as well.’

“No, you don’t get it. Buffy is...”

“Is what?”

“She’s perfect. She’s the one for me.”

“Okay mate. If you say so.”

“I mean it Spike! I really mean it! Buffy’s the one for me!” All the while the men were walking home, they finally reached Liam’s house.

“Here you are mate. I’ll see ya tomorrow.”

“Okay.” Liam headed inside trying his best to be quiet, but that failed. He bumped into something and knocked it down.

Someone came rushing and realized that it was Liam.

“Liam, do you realize what time it is?”

“No mother,” he said grinning.

“You’ve been drinking a little too much.” He just smiled at her response.

“Let’s get you upstairs before you father comes down and sees you like this.” Liam placed his arm around his mother’s shoulder for support as she guided him up the stairs to his room. His mother than took off his clothes and placed a sheet over his body. She then leaned in and kissed him on the head.

“I love you mother.”

“I love you too, my son.”

~*~*~*~*~*

Liam woke up the next morning with his head hurting him. He was trying to figure out what did he do last night to get such a throbbing pain in his head. Then in dawned on him. He had one too many drinks last night with Spike.

“Oh, the pain. I can’t believe I had that many drinks.”

“I sure can’t believe that one also.”

“Mother, how long have you been here?”

“Long enough to see my son realize what a fool he made of himself.”

“I can’t do any chores for The Summers or face father. I think I’m going to be staying in bed for the whole day.”

“I don’t think it’s a great idea to avoid your father. As for your chores for The Summers household, I think you’ve done enough to let one day go by.”

“Thanks.”

“I’ll see you down for breakfast.”

“Sure.”

~*~*~*~*~*

Liam was having breakfast with his parents and sister, when his father decided to strike up a conversation with his son.

“So Liam, why aren’t you ready to work for The Summers today?”

“Well father, I’m not feeling so well.”

“Are you ill my son?”

“Yes.”

“What is it?” Liam couldn’t stand lying to his father so he fessed up.

“I went out with Spike, I had too many drinks and now I’m not feeling too well.”

“How could you be drinking! You have a responsibility to uphold in this family. You just can’t do as you please. Remember who you are son.”

“I know father. Though at times I just don’t care.”

“Well you better start caring. I can’t have you embarrassing the family.”

“Fine. May I be excused?”

“Sure Liam.” Liam walked off and headed straight to his room. ‘I’ll show him. I’m going to become someone. Then no one will tell me what to do.’

Buffy had wondered why she hadn’t seen Angel all day yesterday. It just seemed a bit weird that he never worked. ‘Oh, well I know eventually I’ll see him today.’ Buffy was finished eating breakfast and was heading towards the stables to surprise Angel.

“Angel.”

“Buffy.” He said turning around and facing her.

“How come I didn’t see you yesterday?”

“I decided to take the day off. I hung out with Spike and went to the local tavern.”

“Oh,” she sighed.

“I’m sorry that we couldn’t be together, but I just wanted to hang out with him.”

“So you met any pretty ladies over there?”

“Not that I cared about. Though the next day wasn’t pleasant.”

“Why’s that?”

“Father and I had a dispute. He doesn’t like the idea of me drinking because I would embarrass the family’s name.”

“You know that he’s only trying to protect you and doesn’t want you hurt.”

“So you agree with him as well?”

“To a certain degree. Though at the same time I wouldn’t want to see you hurt as well,” she said while holding his hand.

“Thanks.”

“Well I’m off to spend the day with the ladies.”

“What no kiss before you go?”

“Hmm. I wanted one yesterday, you know.”

“I’m so sorry about that Buffy. I won’t let that happen again,” he said smiling.

“Okay. Come here and kiss me Angel.”

“With pleasure.” He placed both his hands cupping her face and leaned into her capturing those soft lips with his very own. Her little hands went around his waist holding onto him for support. As he was about to let go she pulled him even closer. She didn’t want their kiss to be that short. So finally when the both of them needed to breathe Angel let go.

“I guess you better go.”

“Yeah,” she said, but never moved.

“You aren’t moving.”

“I’m going.”

“Have fun with your friends.”

“Uh huh.” Buffy was in a daze when she walked out of the barn. Angel was laughing because he realized that Buffy sure enjoyed the kiss.

~*~*~*~*~*

Buffy or Elizabeth to her friends were enjoying the day in each other’s company. She so wished that she could tell her friends especially Cordelia that her and Liam are together. ‘Well are we? I mean is he my boyfriend even if no one knows except for the both of us?’

“Hey ladies.”

“Hey Liz,” they all said.

“So are you ladies ready to have some fun?”

“Sure,” said Cordelia.

“So how is Liam, Liz?” The mention of Angel’s name just brought a smile to her face.

“He’s fine. Though today I just want us ladies to have fun and not think about any boys.”

~*~*~*~*~*

The ladies made it into town and decided to enjoy the day of going into the shops and checking and what would caught their eyes and buy for themselves. Elizabeth was staring at an emerald gem. The facets of the gem at any angle showed the colors of the rainbow.

“It’s beautiful, isn’t it?”

“Yes,” Elizabeth said turning around and looking at the tall man before her. His hair was brown. He wore a tailored suit and hat.

“Though now that I saw you, you’re beauty surpasses this emerald gem.”

“You sure have a way with words,” she said smiling.

“Thank you.”

“Liz, are we gonna go now? I’d like to go somewhere else.”

“I’m coming Cordelia. I’m sorry about that. Though I have to get going. It was nice to meet you.”

“Riley Finn,” he answered. His hand picked up hers and kissed the back of her hand and looking into her eyes.

“Elizabeth Summers.”

“I know. My friend Alexander Harris told me about you. He sure was right to say that you are truly beautiful.”

“Hmm Alexander. Why am I not surprised?” Cordelia made her way over to Elizabeth and noticed that she was talking to a young man. ‘He’s not that bad looking.’

“Excuse me. Elizabeth, are we going? You can bring your friend along. He’s the type of guy that you should be with. Not Liam.” Elizabeth glared at her.

“Liam? Is he your boyfriend?” Of course Riley already knew who Liam was.

“No. He just works for her family.” Elizabeth glared at her once more and raised her lift eyebrow.

“He’s my friend.” It was the honest truth, but underneath it all Liam meant more to her than just a friend.

“Alright. My I join you ladies?”

“Sure.”

~*~*~*~*~*

Riley, Xander, Liz, Cordelia and Willow were sitting down, talking to one another and eating pastries. Riley wanted to find a way to get to know Elizabeth and see if he could capture her heart.

“So how long have you all known each other?”

“We’ve known each other since we were about five,” Elizabeth answered.

“That is quite a while.”

“So Riley, what brings you here?” Cordelia asked.

“Actually, I’m here to see Alexander.” ‘I’m also here to see if I can make Elizabeth Summers mine as well.’

“So you aren’t interested in finding a young lady to be your wife?”

“Well of course I am. I just haven’t found the right woman.”

“Oh.” Of course Cordelia knew better that Riley definitely had some feelings for her best friend Elizabeth.

~*~*~*~*~*

They had all said their goodbyes when Cordelia wanted to know if Liz liked Riley.

“So Elizabeth, what do you think of Riley Finn?”

“He’s nice.”

“He’s nice! That’s all you can say. His family has money just like yours.”

“I don’t care about that. He isn’t my type.”

“And who is? Liam? He’s nothing but a stable boy.”

“Don’t you ever talk about him in that way. Liam’s a good man.”

“Good or not, you can’t be with him. At time goes by you’ll see the difference between the both of you and realize that you will never be together.”

“It’s not going to happen. It’s never going to happen that way.”

“Well don’t come running to me when he breaks your heart.”

“He won’t Cordelia. I know him.”

“We’ll see.”

Faith McMillan was heading over to visit her two favorite cousins Liam and Kathy. She hadn’t seen the two for quite a while. She wondered what changes the both of them may have. Faith was all dressed up in her long blue dress that had long sleeves. Her brown hair was swept up in a ponytail. Faith knocked on the door and waited for someone to answer it.

Liam had heard the knock on the door and wondered what it could be. ‘It can’t be Buffy. She knows not to see me my house.’

“Who’s there?”

“Open up and you’ll find out.” Liam thought for a while before he recognized the voice.

“Faith. My god! It’s great to see you.” He then picked her up in his arms and twirled her around.

“Put me down Liam!” He settled her down and looked her over.

“Well you look pretty,” he said smiling.

“Yeah, yeah. I bet all the girls are chasing you.”

“Not really.” ‘Just one I hope.”

“So where’s Kathy? I haven’t seen her yet.”

“Follow me. She’s around here somewhere.” They both went walking and found Kathy sitting down.

“Liam, what are you…” Her voice fell silent when she saw whom her brother was with.

“Faith!” She ran towards her cousin and gave her a great big hug.

“Kathy, my you’ve grown and look pretty.”

“So have you.”

~*~*~*~*~*

Doyle was wandering around the streets and headed over to see Liam. He wanted to have a few drinks and hopefully find a pretty lady to be with. Though the ladies he fancied weren’t in the circles as he was. The woman that he fancied the most was Cordelia Chase.

“Liam, where are you?”

“I’m here. Come on in.” Doyle made his way inside and spotted a young brunette dressed in a royal blue dress.

“So may I as, who’s the pretty lady?”

“What pretty lady?” Liam asked. Kathy smacked his arm and Faith glared at him.

“Ow.”

“Her name’s Faith. She’s our cousin.” Doyle took her hand and kissed the back of it.

“It’s a pleasure,” he said smiling.

“Thanks. Don’t worry about Liam. He’s just being his usual self.”

“Hey! There’s nothing wrong with that. So Doyle, why are you here?”

“I thought we could get some drinks and can both become men tonight.”

“I’ll go drinking with you, but not the other.”

“Why not?”

“Because I’m waiting for the right girl.”

“You’re waiting for Liz aren’t you?”

“And you’re waiting for Cordelia.”

“Touché.”

~*~*~*~*~*

Doyle and Liam entered the local tavern. It was the same one that he was with Spike the other day. They ordered some ale and sat down.

“So you had to mention Elizabeth in front of my cousin?”

“Well it’s not like you don’t fancy her.”

“Okay. I do, but we’re not meant to me.”

“Who says?”

“Society. My parents. Her parents. It just wouldn’t workout.”

“You say that, but you are still attracted to her.”

“Yeah. Well enough about me. How are you going to charm Cordelia Chase?”

“I have my own ways. She’ll be mesmerized by my words of wisdom.”

“Oh, please! Don’t tell me you’ll be reciting from Shakespeare Romeo and Juliet to her?”

“Well thanks for the thought.” Liam laughed. A young blonde haired woman brought the ale to their table. She recognized Liam from the last time he was here. ‘So he’s back. Maybe this is my chance to get to know him.’

“Here you go gentlemen. Would you like anything else?”

“No thank you,” Liam answered.

“You sure about that,” she said stepping a bit closer and was practically showing her breasts to Liam.

“No. What’s your name?” Liam swallowed the lump that formed in his throat.

“Darla.”

“No, Darla I’m not interested right now.”

“Sure.” She walked away swaying her hips trying to entice Liam. She knew that making Liam hers was going to be a challenge.

“Liam, she was practically throwing herself at you.”

“I know that. I’m not interested in her.”

“I know. I can tell.”

~*~*~*~*~*

Cordelia Chase had no idea what she decided to head over to this local tavern. She was better than these people and yet here she was getting ready to sit down.

“What can I get you?”

“Water.”

“Okay. I’ll be back with your water.” Cordelia scanned the room and spotted Liam and his friend. ‘Why am I not surprised that Liam’s here? These are his kind of people after all.’ Cordelia kept staring in their direction until her eyes made contact with his friend. ‘Oh, no he caught me staring.’

~*~*~*~*~*

Doyle and Liam were laughing when Doyle’s eyes were caught right up into the object of his affection.

“I can’t believe she’s here. I have to talk to her. Oh, whom am I kidding? What am I going to say?”

“You can start off with a hello. Then proceed from there.”

“Oh, you are such great help Romeo.”

“Just go. I’m going to have a couple more drinks and then I’m heading in.”

“I don’t know Liam. I don’t think I can.”

“You can Doyle. If she means that much to you, go for it.”

“Thanks.”

~*~*~*~*~*

Cordelia was happy that Doyle stopped staring at her, but now it was going to get worse for her. ‘Oh, no he’s heading this way.’

“Hello.”

“Hello.”

“So Cordelia may I sit down?”

“Sure,” she said smiling.

“By the way the name’s Doyle. Allan Francis Doyle.”

“Cordelia Chase. But I guess you already knew that.”

“Yeah, I do. So what’s a beautiful lady like you doing here?” Cordelia laughed.

“I have no clue. I can’t figure it out yet. I shouldn’t be even talking to you right now.”

“Though you are.”

“Yeah, it’s weird. I should be hitting you with my purse or throwing my drink in your face.”

“Well I’d definitely either be in pain from the purse or have finally showered for the day.” Cordelia couldn’t help but laugh. She was really enjoying Doyle’s company. He may not be in the social circles as she was, but she liked him.

“You wanna leave?” Cordelia asked.

“Sure. Where to?”

“Wherever you wanna go.” Doyle couldn’t stop smiling from ear to ear. He took her hand in his and kissed the back of it and then left.

~*~*~*~*~*

Doyle and Cordelia were inside the bedroom. It wasn’t hers because she couldn’t bring Doyle there. The room was decorated nicely with white walls and light blue sheets that adorned the bed. There were two lanterns with oil that was already lit inside the room. They were sitting on the bed.

“You know you don’t have to do this?”

“I know, but I want to.”

“Okay then, but if at any time you want me to stop just tell me.”

“Okay.” Doyle leaned in and started kissing Cordelia. His hands went through her long dark locks massaging her scalp. She moaned against his lips. Her hands were at his waist moving higher feeling the contours of his back. She slowly began unbuttoning his shirt and took it off his shoulders. They stopped kissing and looked into each other’s eyes.

“We can stop if you want?” ‘Please say no.’

“No. It’s okay. I want this.” For the first time in her life she felt that being with Doyle and sharing this experience was worth it.

“Okay then.” His lips went back onto hers and they both continued kissing.

Well they always say the next day you see things much clearer. Cordelia was laying in bed feeling tired from the previous night. A part of her felt different because she had never done this before in her life. She turned around and looked straight at Doyle. His face looked so peaceful and serene. Doyle felt as if someone was staring at him.

“Morning,” he said staring at her.

“Good Morning,” she said smiling back. His hand slipped into her hair and cupped her face. She turned her face onto his hand.

“You look lovely. Did you regret about last night?”

“No, not at all. Do you? I mean if you do then I can always leave and then we can make believe that none of this happened.”

“No, of course not Cordelia. I always admired you.”

“Really? I never knew that. That’s so thoughtful of you.”

“Yes, I do. Though you wouldn’t have known because I’ve always been with Liam.”

“Oh. I know Liam. He works for Liz’s family.”

“I know that already. It seems like you don’t like him for your friend.”

“Yes. I just think that she can do better.”

“So you feel the same way about me as well?”

“No. I’m not sure.”

“Well when you do decide on what you think of me and us, you know where to find me.”
