Before I start this review, I think I should make it known that I do not like the US box sets. They contain only 6 episodes and leave you feeling liek you don;t have the full story, because, well, you don't. That said, I shall goet on with it. Season 1 is good, but in no way reflects the best of what the series can be. Obviously, the inclusion of "Welcome To The Hellmouth" and "The Harvest" (the pilot episode for those who don;t know) is a good pick. They are solid episodes which lays a good basis for the series. And of course, "Angel", in which Buffy discovers Angel is a vampire was a classic. It was interesting, powerful and suprising. However, the rest of the episodes aren't much. The basic idea that it tries to get across are great: overbearing mother, Buffy can't have a normal life, etc., but the delivery is a little off. There isn't as much comedy as we're used to seeing, and Buffy is weaker than she should be. However, the episodes have there strong points. Buffy vs. Amy's Mom in "The Witch" for example. My major complaint is "The Puppet Show," Which I found boring and stupid, instead of "Invisible Girl" or "Prophecy Girl." An okay set overall.
