On Friday morning Oscar sat in his office with Rudy and Steve. Callahan
buzzed him.
"Yes Callahan?"
"Mr. Goldman David Harrison is on line one."
"Thank you Callahan." He reached over and picked up the phone.
"Yes David.?”
"Oscar, are you going to be there a few minutes?"
"Yes I am."
"I need to speak to you."
"I'll be here."
"Who was that?" Steve asked.
"My boss" Oscar answered.
"You have a boss?" Steve was shocked.
"Yes I do and if you think I'm bad wait till you meet David Harrison."
smdmsmdmsmdmsmdmsmdmsmdmsmdmsmdmsmdm
David Harrison didn't bother waiting for Callahan to announce him. He just walked right into Oscar's office. "Oscar, we have a little problem. I'm hoping your nephew can help us out."
"If you are refering to my son, the answer is no."
"Oscar we need to use your nep.. son on an assignment. Believe me I wouldn't let him do anything that would hurt him."
"Harrison, absolutely not."
"I'm afraid you have no choice in the matter. On Saturday The Russian chess player Ivan Yerik will be in Washington. I thought that Marc would like to be his escort."
"The answer is no."
"I'm afraid I have to take over on this one Oscar. We need an escort of
Ivan."
"Marc can't even cross the street by himself, how can he be anybody's
escort? Steve interjected.
"What are you talking about Col Austin? Why can't he cross the street by himself?"
"Do you know how old Marc is?" Steve wondered.
I go by qualifications. And form what I see Marc is more than qualified."
"Well he's only seven" Oscar informed him.
"Only if I can help him out." Steve offered.
"That sounds great." Oscar agreed.
"What if Steve is needed else where tomorrow?" Harrison grumbled.
"I'll see to it that he isn't." Oscar said. "Marc needs adult supervision on this."
"I didn't realize he was so young. That makes it even better though. Marc and Ivan are about the same age."
"I still don't like the idea." Oscar mumbled to himself.
"Oscar I don't know if you understand. We gave the go ahead for Marc's
bionic surgery mainly for you but because of Marc's age he will be with us for many years. It is also going to cost millions of dollars over the next 13 years until he reaches his full growth."
"I understand."
"Fine then have Marc here bright and early tomorrow."
"Tomorrow, I don't know. You see he's grounded. I guess I'll let him go on the assignment and then ground him afterward."
"Sounds good Ivan will be here at 9:00 in the morning."
David Harrison left. Oscar turned to Steve. "Are you sure you want to babysit three boys tomorrow?
"Three boys?"
"Matt will want to come too."
"I guess you're right."
"I don't think I'll tell him it is an assignment though I'll just tell him that I want him to go with you to play with Ivan."
"I'll go along with that."
smdmsmdmsmdmsmdmsmdmsmdmsmdmsmdmsmdm
The next morning they all met at Oscar's house. They thought it would be a little less formal.
Introductions were made and Steve was off to spend the day with the boys.
"What should we do boys?" Steve asked.
Ivan answered. " ‘Vant to see the statue of liberty."
"Well I'm afraid that's up in NY we're not going there."
"Why don't we go to the amusement park?"
"I guess so." Ivan sounded disappointed.
When they got to the park Marc and Matt started talking to Ivan. They were a few feet ahead of Steve.
"I don't think it's fair for him to not take you where you want to go." Marc said. "We can take you to NY."
"How are we going to do that Marc?"
"You'll see."
"Steve can we have hot dogs?" Marc asked.
"I guess so. Your dad gave me money to get you guys what ever you wanted. You wait here, the line looks awfully long I'll bring them to you."
Steve left to stand in line at the hotdog stand. "That's what I was hoping he would say. There is a bus stop right out side the park that goes to the airport. We'll ask Steve's friend Bill Mayor to fly us to NY."
They were gone in an instant. Before Steve even knew they were gone they were on the bus headed for Dulles.
At the park Steve turned around and found the boys gone. He scanned the
crowd with his vision but found nothing.
He headed for the first payphone he could find, and called Oscar.
"That's just great!!" Oscar thundered. “You mean to tell me you lost all three." He roared.
"I'm sorry Oscar I'm on my way to your office now."
In the meant time the boys got off the bus at Dulles. It took them only a matter of minutes to locate Steve's friend Bill Mayor.
"Well hi boys what's up."
"This is our friend Ivan. He's from Russia. He is visiting and wants to see the statue of liberty. Will you fly us to NY so he can see it?"
"What does your dad have to say about this?"
"He says it would be just fine." Matt lied.
At the same time Steve arrived at Oscar's office, the twins and Ivan were airborne with Bill.
The plane hadn't been in the air for two minutes when Bill grabbed his chest and the plane started nose-diving to the ground...
"Bill, Bill!!!" Marc cried. “Bill what's wrong?"
Matt grabbed the headset off of Bill's head, and put it on his own. "Help, Help!!” He cried into the microphone.
"We're with you! Grab the control stick and pull back just as hard as you can. Pretend you’re in one of those planes at an amusement park and you want it to go up."
"Ok." Matt said. He did as he was told and the plane leveled off.
"Ok 1990 we got you on radar. I'm Jeff Davis. What's your name son?"
"Matt Goldman."
"Are you Oscar Goldman's son?"
"Yes we are up here with Bill Mayor. He just grabbed his chest and fell
over."
"Ok Matt, I'll call your dad. Just hang on. You've got it leveled off the plane just hold it there." He covered the mike.
"Call Oscar Goldman. Tell him to bring Col Austin."
The call came through Oscar's office within minutes.
Oscar picked up the phone. After listening he grabbed his coat. "Steve, the twins are in a plane with no pilot. Bill Mayor was taking them to NY and must have had a heart attack or something."
"Let's go."
They were at the airport in minutes. Steve shouted, "Get a chopper ready to go. I might have to go up there and help them out. Matt might be able to keep it up in the air, but he can't land it. He's not tall enough."
"Steve I don't know if we can let you do that. It is way too dangerous." The flight controller said.
"I don't care. We have three boys up there who don't know beans about flying much less landing a plane. I intend to get them down. Captain you seem to forget, I still work for NASA and I outrank you. I am taking charge of this mission."
"Yes sir Col Austin. I'll get the chopper right away sir."
"Steve it is very dangerous if you're going to do what I think you're going to do. You're going to lower yourself into the plane aren't you?”
"That's the plan, Oscar." Steve said.
"Chopper's ready sir, and Chad will take you up."
"Ok, when I give the word, I want you to tell the boys to put it on autopilot and then get to the back of the plane."
"Will do Col."
Davis got back on the microphone. "Matt are you still there?"
"Yes I am."
"Good I have your dad here, and Col Austin is on his way to help you."
"Ok. Hurry we're scared."
"Ask them If Ivan Yerik is with them." Oscar said.
"Matt, is Ivan Yerik with you?"
"Yes, he is. Are we in trouble?"
"He wants to know if he's in trouble."
"Tell him we'll talk about it when we get home."
"Your dad says you'll talk about it when you get home."
"We're in trouble."
"Yes Col. Ok we'll tell them"
"Matt Steve is right above you. He wants you to put the plane on auto pilot and move to the back of the plane."
"Ok, where is the auto pilot?
"It's to your right, and up. It says AP on it."
"I see it."
"Ok just push the button."
Matt pressed the button and the plane jerked for just a second then once again leveled off.
"I did it. I did it." Matt cried.
"You sure did. Now get as far to the back of the plane as you can get."
"Ok I won't be able to talk to you anymore." Marc Cried
"That's ok, Steve is on his way "
Up in the chopper Steve readied himself to get into the helpless plane. "Ok Chad. I'm going to lower myself down. Keep it as steady as you can."
"Will do Steve."
Steve put on a parachute just in case he lost his footing and fell off the ladder. He opened the chopper door and threw out he ladder he slowly lowered himself onto the ladder and started down.
On the ground Oscar was watching the whole thing with a pair of binoculars "Careful Steve."
Chad kept the chopper as steady as he could. Steve reached the door of the plane and opened the door. He climbed in, closed the door and took control of the plane.
"Matt hand me the headset." He said. “Now the three of you sit back and fasten those seatbelts."
Within a matter of minutes Steve safely landed the plane back at Dulles. He taxied to the hanger and every one got out of the plane.
"That was a close one." Matt said as they walked to the control tower.
"You can say that again." Marc agreed.
When they met with Oscar outside the hanger He grabbed both of the twins. "Don't you two ever do anything like that again."
Steve lifted Bill out of the cockpit. "Is the ambulance on the way?"
"It's here waiting to transport anybody that needs it." Oscar said. "Are you guys sure you are alright."
"We're fine."
Steve turned to Oscar "I don't see any reason to tell the Soviets anything about this. "
"I agree. It would only make trouble. And speaking of trouble" He looked at the twins. "You two are in a lot of trouble. "You'll be lucky if you'll be able to leave the house by the time you're 21."
"We're sorry Dad. We just wanted Ivan to see the Statue of Liberty. That's where he wanted to go."
"Well what you did was wrong. I hate to punish you, but I'm afraid if I don't you won't remember the trouble you got into this time."
"We understand."
"Ok I'll let you know what I plan to do about this after dinner tonight. Now let's go home."
Oscar piled the boys into his car and headed back to OSI. He handed Ivan back over to his people and gave them a thumbnail sketch as to what had happened that afternoon. David Harrison was furious.
"Oscar I…"
"Now wait just a minute Harrison!! I didn't want Marc to go on this assignment to begin with. He is too young. His mind hasn't fully developed yet. Don't you dare blame Marc for this!! It is not his fault at all. "
Harrison agreed maybe he had jumped the gun on sending Marc out to soon. And agreed to wait till Marc was a little older before he sent him out again.
smdmsmdmsmdmsmdmsmdmsmdmsmdmsmdmsmdm
On Monday the twins started their new school at Bates Academy. Once again Oscar dropped Joey off at his school, then he took Matt and Marc to their new school. He escorted them into the building. "Now Marc under no circumstances you are to use your bionics outside the OSI. Do I make myself clear? Now of course if something goes wrong and it happens on an accident, then we'll forgive you."
"I understand." Marc said giving Matt a wink when Oscar turned around.
"Oh before I forget. Don't make any plans for Saturday. Michael wants to see you. It's time for him to run some tests and make sure everything is working fine."
"I feel fine. I don't want to go to the Doctor. Every time you go to the Doctor, they try to give you s shot."
"I assure you I don't think Michael will give you a shot."
"I bet he does."
"As a matter of fact I just might ask him if he wouldn't mind being your doctor too, Matt."
"Oh no!! I'm not going to get a shot."
"Would you two just settle down about that? Like I said don't make any plans for Saturday.”
They continued on into the building. The principal met Oscar and the boys at the door.
"Good morning Mr. Goldman. "I'm Erik Bartholomew I am the principal here at Bates. What an honor it is for you to choose us the educator of these fine boys. I hope you don't mind but we have only on class of each grade, The twins will be together in a classroom. Will that be a problem?"
"No it won't that was sort of the problem last time."
"Very well if you will just follow me, I'll introduce you to their teacher. Then we can discuss tuition."
"Sounds good." Oscar held the twins hands and followed Erik Bartholomew down the hall.
He opened a door. "Devon I have a couple of new students for you. Boys this is Mr. Moss. He is going to be your teacher."
"Good morning Mr. Moss" the twins said.
"Well it looks like they will get along just fine. Mr. Goldman if you will just follow me again, we can sign the papers."
smdmsmdmsmdmsmdmsmdmsmdmsmdmsmdmsmdm
"I heard that " Danny said when Oscar got into the car. "I have met Michael. He is very nice. He won't mind taking over for Matt either."
"I'm sure you're right. Let's get you to school. Did you get your report done about working with Rudy?"
"Yes I finished it Friday night."
"Why do I waste my breath asking you if you did your homework?"
"I really don't know"
"Boys, boys. Let's settle down. I want to introduce our new students. This is Matt and Marc Goldman. They will be joining us for the rest of the year."
"Good morning Marc, Good morning Matt." The class responded.
"Why don't you two sit right over here?" We will rearrange the room later so you won't sit by each other."
"Now Matt you sit here."
"Ok." Marc said and sat down.
"And Marc, you may sit here."
"Thanks." Matt said as he sat down. They looked at each other and smiled.
“I'll have the janitor come in tonight and rearrange the room so you won't be right next to each other." he came over with nametags and taped them to their desks. Matt's name was taped to where Marc was sitting and Marc's name was taped where Matt was sitting.
smdmsmdmsmdmsmdmsmdmsmdmsmdmsmdmsmdm
On the drive into DC Dan started wheezing. Oscar looked at him. "Do you have your inhaler?"
Danny took it out of his jacket and put it in his mouth. He pressed the
canister. Nothing.
"It's empty."
"Empty?" He reached for his car phone and dialed Rudy. "Rudy, it's Oscar. Danny is having an asthma attack We're on out way in right now.
Still on the phone Oscar hit the accelerator of the car and headed into
Washington. Then it happened the light flashed in the review mirror of his car. "Uh oh looks like we have some company. This could take a while. He looks like he'll accept no excuse. Send an ambulance we are on the corner of Wilson and Pine."
"I'm on my way."
Oscar rolled down the window he had his drivers license and OSI ID ready. The officer came to the window.
"Going a little fast weren't we?"
"Officer" He said handing him the information. "My son is having an asthma attack. I have to get him to the doctor."
"In due time Mr. Goldman, in due time."
"Officer you don't understand..."
"I do understand. I feel it's high time someone on the force put you
Washington brass in their place. Now just sit back on relax I just want to run the plates." The cocky officer, who was so full of himself, sneered.
Oscar looked over at Danny he knew by looking at him this was the worst he had had thus far. "It's ok son, Rudy is on his way."
Danny turned to him. His lips had turned purple. 'Ok officer Rudman, I'll play your game and then my friend you will pay dearly.' Oscar thought to himself.
Rudy pulled up and went right for Danny "You can't." The policeman started. Then he saw Danny. Rudy pulled him out of the car. The child's fingers were completely blue as were his lips. Even his face had even taken on a bluish tint.
"Is there anything I can do?" The officer asked. Sounding concerned now.
"You've done enough already!!" Rudy screamed at him.
"I'm sorry I didn't know."
"I told you my son was sick. You will be hearing from my attorney and the OSI's attorney's.
The officer who was very young got back into his cruiser. He knew then and there his career as a policeman was through.
Rudy had given Danny a shot of epinephrine. By the time Oscar got to him, Danny was feeling much better.
"I think you should keep him out of school today. I'll call and tell them what happened."
"Dad, just drop my report off it's due today."
"I'll do that. You go with Rudy, and I'll see you in a bit."
smdmsmdmsmdmsmdmsmdmsmdmsmdmsmdmsmdm
"So, how was your fist day, boys?" Mary asked as they climbed into the back seat.
"It was great!!" they exclaimed.
"No one took your lunch money?"
"No. Dad gives the money to the school. We never take money for lunch."
"Well isn't that nice. As soon as we get home, you need to do your
homework."
"We don't have any." They explained "Our teacher gives us work time so we don't have homework. Dad has to check it though, and sign it."
"So what are you going to do when we get home?"
"Play outside. I want to check out that old shed " Marc said.
"I don't know if your dad wants you boys near that or not."
"He didn't say we couldn't." Matt observed.
"Well you two just be careful."
"We will."
They pulled up in the driveway and the twins got out of the car. After
changing out of their school uniforms and putting down their schoolbooks the twins were out by the shed. They heard a low sound coming from inside. They couldn't quite make it out. It almost sounded like muffled barking.
"I think there is a dog in there." Matt said.
"Me too." Marc started pulling the boards off the windows that had been
boarded up for years. After working for what seemed like hours he had enough boards pulled away so he and Matt could crawl through a window.
They started following the sound. "We need a flashlight." Matt said. They left the shed and went into the house.
"Lord, have mercy! What have you two been doing? Rolling around in the dirt?" Mary asked at the sight of the dirty boys standing in front of her. "I want you two to go get cleaned up before you father gets home."
"We will Mary. We're not done playing yet."
"I say you are. Now march upstairs and get in that tub, this instant!"
They headed for the stairway. When Mary went to check on Joey the twins
grabbed the flashlight and bolted out the door.
Back in the shed they shined the light all over the place. Finally in a far corner they found what they were looking for.
"Puppies!!" They cried.
They ran for the puppies. But the mother dog was on her guard. She started barking and bit Mark.
"Ow!" He cried. "Dummy dog. I'm not going to hurt your ole babies."
"I have an idea" Marc said. "First is the bite bad?"
“No it's not even bleeding anymore."
"You stay here. Don't go close to her though. I'll be right back."
Marc ran back to the house not going at top speed but just enough to get there faster than he would be able to without bionics. Mary was still upstairs with Joey He could here them coming though. He quickly reached into the refrigerator and pulled out a handful of raw hamburger.
He ran back to the shed the same way. He held the hamburger out for the
mother dog. Sniffing she slowly walked over to the twins. The twins noticed an extra room in the shed so they led the dog into it. While she ate the meat they slammed the door shut on the poor dog.
Elated they ran to the puppies. "I like this one.” Marc said.
"No, this one. " Matt said.
They finally agreed on one puppy and ran back to the house. They snuck back in and hid the dog in their room. "I'll go first." Matt said as he peeled off his shirt. "You stay with the puppy and I'll take a bath."
smdmsmdmsmdmsmdmsmdmsmdmsmdmsmdmsmdm
Oscar was just heading out his door when Steve walked in. "Hi pal!
Everything alright?"
"Yea everything's fine. I was just wondering if you wanted to go to
dinner?"
"I have to take Danny home. He's been here all day. He had a little trouble with his asthma. A little trouble, that's putting it mildly. It was a full blown attack, scared the hell out of me."
"That bad?"
"Steve, he turned blue. I can't go to dinner, but you can come out to the house if you want. By the way how's your friend Bill Mayor?"
"He should be out of the hospital in a couple of days. By the way I would like that. I would love to see your new place now that you're settled in."
"Great, well let's go get Danny and head that way."
Oscar and Steve walked into Rudy's office. "How are you doing Dan?"
"He's great. All ready to go."
"Thanks Rudy. Steve is coming out to the house for dinner want to join us?"
"Try and stop me. I'll ride with Steve. By the way Marc is due for the full load day after tomorrow. He has to have his power pack replaced. Michael says bring him first thing that morning. We don't want to take any chances."
"See you there then."
"Oscar picked up the phone. "I better give Mary a call and tell you two are coming. She always makes way to much anyway."
"Mary, Rudy and Steve are joining us for dinner."
"That's fine. We are having roast beef and the trimmings. There is plenty."
"We'll be there in about 20 minutes."
smdmsmdmsmdmsmdmsmdmsmdmsmdmsmdmsmdm
When Matt came out of the shower he looked at Marc. "Why are you crying?"
"I'm not crying I think I have a cold."
“Ok but you better get into the tub or Mary will have a fit.”
Marc peeled off his clothes and jumped into the tub too.
No sooner had he gotten out and asked Matt why now he was crying when Mary called them.
"Marc, Matt. Come down here." The twins came to the top of the stairs. "Oh good. You're father's bringing Rudy and Steve to dinner. I just wanted to make sure you were presentable. Are you two crying?
"No I think we have a cold." Marc said.
"Well since Rudy is coming for dinner maybe he can take a look at you two you look terrible. Your eyes are all red and swollen. "
"Do we have to come down now?"
"No, now that I have seen you’re ready for company, you can play some more."
"Thanks" they ran back to their room and the puppy. "What should we call him?" Matt asked.
"I don't know. How about Shep?"
"Everyone names their dog Shep. How about Buster?"
"I like it Buster." Matt agreed.
"Then Buster it is. Come on Buster." Both twins started sneezing like crazy.
Oscar and Danny pulled into the drive, followed by Steve and Rudy. They
heard the mournful howls coming from the shed and went to investigate They found the poor puppies crying for their dinner. And the mother dog locked in the room. They let her out and she chose to ignore the three men and ran to her babies.
"How do you suppose she got locked in that room? " Steve wondered.
I'll give you a hint" Oscar began. "They're about that tall and go by the names Marc and Matt. I wouldn't be a bit surprised if one of those pups has moved into our house."
The three men and Danny headed into the house.
"Mary, do the twins have a puppy in here?" Oscar asked.
"Not that I have seen but they have been in their room all afternoon."
"Is dinner about ready?"
"We can eat anytime. I'll call them down."
When Marc and Matt showed up downstairs they looked terrible. Their eyes were so red and swollen they were almost swollen shut.
"What's the matter with you guys?" And I want to see that pup now. I have to tell you what you did to the mother dog was just plain mean. How did you expect those other puppies to eat? Or did you even think about that?"
"We don't have a dog." They answered together.
"Don't lie to me." Oscar scolded.
Rudy had moved closer. "They don't have colds. They are allergic to the dog."
"Go upstairs and get that pup and return it to its mother right now!" Oscar scolded. "I don't know what I am going to do with you. I can handle just about anything but I can't stand lying. I will have to come up with a punishment to fit the crime."
The twins went upstairs and got the puppy and returned it to the shed. "What do you think he will do?" Matt asked.
"I don't know. I do know that our real dad would have let us keep the
puppy."
"Maybe they are back from their trip. Let's go home and live with him. We will go first thing in the morning before anyone wakes up."
"Let's go eat dinner."
smdmsmdmsmdmsmdmsmdmsmdmsmdmsmdmsmdm
After everyone had gone to sleep Marc and Matt crept down to the kitchen. They used a whole jar of peanut butter, a whole jar of grape jelly and a whole loaf of bread and then some making peanut butter and Jelly sandwiches to take with them. They emptied there Back packs and loaded them up with the sandwiches. Then they grabbed a flashlight and headed out the door.
They walked into town and caught a bus that took them in to DC. From there they went to Union Station and bought tickets for the 3:30 to NY.
The next morning Mary woke early. She went into the twins room to get them moving on getting ready for school. Their beds were empty. A note rested on Marc's pillow. She took it straight to Oscar.
Dear uncle Oscar.
Matt and I went to NY we want to live with our mom and dad. We hope they are back from their trip. I hope you don't feel sad. We do like it with you. But we liked it with our real mom and dad better. We don't want you to be mad at us anymore.”
Love Marc
Oscar read the note through three more times before showing it to Dan. "Didn't anyone tell them about your parents?"
"No one had the heart too. They just told them mom and dad went away for a while.”
"Do you think they would go to NY?" How would they get there?"
"I don't know. I'll show their pictures to the people at Union Station and Dulles maybe one of them saw them.
smdmsmdmsmdmsmdmsmdmsmdmsmdmsmdmsmdm
After dropping Danny at school Oscar went straight to work. Rudy was in his office pacing the floor when he got there.
"Oscar, did the twins really run away?"
"It appears that way. I've got Russ checking Dulles and Union Station."
"Oscar it may be a bit more involved than that. Remember I told you
yesterday? Marc needs his power pack replaced first thing in the morning; otherwise there could be complications; serious complications."
Oscar immediately placed a call to Steve.
"Steve it's Oscar."
"I heard. I'm on my way."
Oscar hung up the phone. "Steve is on his way."
"Oscar I." Rudy began but was interrupted.
Russ walked in. "Oscar a ticket agent at Union remembers selling the twins tickets to NY at 3:00 this morning. They should be there by now."
"Why would they run away?" Steve asked when he arrived.
"They are looking for their parents."
"Oscar, their parents are dead."
"I know that, you know that but no one told the twins that. They think I'm mad at them for lying about the puppy last night. Now I wish I would have let them just keep it."
"Oscar you can't give into them all the time." Steve tried to reassure him.
"Well now Rudy says we have an even bigger problem."
"That's true. Marc is due for his tests first thing in the morning. We have to replace the power pack. You know as well as anyone what can happen if it gets to low."
"That I do. Do we have any leads, any leads at all?"
"I don't know. Check their old neighborhood in Queens first." Oscar said. "I'm going with you."
"Oscar I think you should stay here."
"No way. I want to find them."
"So do I but I can cover more ground by myself. Besides I need you here to get me out of NY fast when I do find them. I need your influence to get clearance at Kennedy."
"I guess you are right."
"Rudy, you be ready for immediate emergency surgery the minute I get back."
"We'll be all set."
In the mean time Oscar called the NYPD and have them ready to help.
"Consider it done."
Steve took off for Dulles to fly to Kennedy Airport in New York.
When he landed he was met by Captain John Hall of the Bayside police in
Queens.
"I understand you're in pursuit of a couple of little runaways?"
"I sure am. Any word."
"Not yet, I've had my men on it ever since Goldman called us. We looked up their old address and went to the house. The new owners said they would keep an eye out if the boys showed up there. The problem is, is I think we just miss them each time."
That's a possibility." Steve agreed.
Steve searched most of the night. Early the next morning he stopped by the precinct to Speak to Captain Hall.
"No we still haven't found anything yet. Like you my men have been searching all night.”
smdmsmdmsmdmsmdmsmdmsmdmsmdmsmdmsmdm
At the train station in Bayside Queens, two little boys sat huddled together in corner of the train platform. No one seemed to notice them.
"I don't know what's wrong.” Marc said. “I can hardly move my legs. I wish Dr. Michael was here."
"I wish we were back home with dad." Matt stated. "I'm scared. Do we have any sandwiches left?"
"Just one. I'll share it with you."
Matt pulled the last PB and J out of the backpack and divided it between him and his brother.
"I'm so tired." Marc said. "I can't move my legs at all. I want to go home."
Steve met Captain Hall on the bridge going over the train tracks. "Has
anyone looked down here?" He asked.
"I don't know. It's always worth a second look. You take the New York side, I'll take the Port Washington side." They descended the steps that took them down to the track area. Steve searched the entire platform. The he saw them. He ran over to them.
"Steve" They cried. "We want to go home." Their dark eyes looked up at him.
"Steve, Marc can't move his legs at all."
"I'll carry him" Steve bent over and lifted Marc up. "Come on, son. I have to get you to Rudy and fast."
Steve called Oscar from the police station "Oscar, I found them. They’re safe. Have Rudy and Michael ready and waiting. Now get me out of here."
"You have priority Steve. Just get to Kennedy.”
smdmsmdmsmdmsmdmsmdmsmdmsmdmsmdmsmdm
When they got to Kennedy Steve rushed Marc onto the chopper and radioed the OSI. “We're airborne. Tell Rudy Marc is pretty weak. He can't move his legs at all. We should be there in 30 minutes.”
"Steve." Rudy's voice came over the radio. "Try to keep him awake. Land the chopper at OSI Michael and I will be waiting for you."
"You got it Rudy." He turned to Matt. "Matt, try to keep your brother awake."
"I will. Steve, is he going to be all right?
"He's going to be just fine, son. Rudy and Michael are waiting as we speak."
Steve landed right at OSI and Rudy took over from there. He rushed Marc into surgery and replaced the power pack.
"How is he?" Oscar asked when Rudy and Michael emerged from the OR
"He's going to be just fine. I want him to stay for a while to rest but you should be able to take him home later this afternoon." Michael said.
"Can I see him now?"
"Yea. Take Matt with you. Marc was asking for him." Rudy added.
Matt and Oscar went into Marc's room.
"I'm sorry I was so hard on you guys. I wish I could say when that pup's ready to leave its mother you could have it. But Rudy says you are allergic. Maybe we can work something."
"We're sorry dad" the twins said. "We didn't mean to run away. We wanted to see our mom and dad."
"I know boys. It wasn't fair for no one to tell you that your parents weren't coming back."

Later that afternoon Michael stepped into the room. "Who wants to go home?"
"We do!" the twins exclaimed.
"Well that's good cause this is a hospital, and hospitals are for sick
people. So go on home, Marc. I'll see you in the morning for your tests."
"OK Dr. Michael. See you then."
Oscar walked in. "Take us home Dad" They said.
