History: Janet Findley was a noted Maine psychic of some regard. Not much is known about her life, but it is known she was an associate of Professor T. Eliot Stokes from Bangor University and held in high esteem by members of the paranormal community in the area.
In 1968, Findley was brought to Collinwood by Stokes at the behest of Elizabeth Collins Stoddard of Collinwood to discern and determine suspicions of hauntings on her family estate. Although the locale had a longtime reputation as a haunted house due to the presence of the spirits of Josette Collins and Sara Collins, the activity had recently turned threatening. Stokes believed the activity was somehow connected to the long disappearances of Elizabeth’s nephew, David Collins, and his friend, Amy Jennings. In one incident, Liz’s brother and David’s father, Roger Collins, almost fell to his death in an accident in the foyer.
Trying to determine why these mysterious happenings were occurring, Findley discovered there were two forces at work in the mansion, one she discerned as good and the other she discerned was evil. She also felt that Amy was psychic, the two of them both seeing the apparition of a pentagram on the face of Joe Haskell, Amy’s uncle. To discern the identity of the spirits, Findley explored the mansion and was unknowingly led to the room of Quentin Collins in the West Wing by David and Amy, which had once been sealed up and rediscovered. Entering the room, Findley became knowingly trapped by Quentin's ghost and faced him unafraid to break his control on the children. Unfortunately, Quentin’s will was stronger and Findley ended up stumbling from the room with chest pains to warn the family. Upon reaching the foyer, she stumbled down the staircase to her death, taking the discovery of Quentin’s ghost with her.
After her death and inquiry to these events, Professor Stokes held a séance to contact Madame Findley whose spirit was channeled through the Collins housekeeper, Sarah Johnson, who could only proclaim that she had been murdered. She gave no other message nor provided identification of her murderer, possibly because she was prevented by Quentin's ghost.
In 1980, Findley’s spirit again appeared on the estate to William Collins, Russell Coleman, Jamison Collins and Joe Haskell Jr, progeny of the Collins family and their friends. While the boys were playing close to Widow’s Hill, she warned them to get away from the eroding cliffs just before part of it collapsed and tumbled down the hillside. In 2005, she was also one of several spirits that presented itself to Melinda Gordon, an associate of the adult William Collins.
Powers/Abilities: Janet Findley possessed an latent psychic sensitivity to psychic and paranormal activity. A Level Two psychic, she could detect and perceive the astral spirit ("ghosts) of other living things, particularly that of deceased human beings. She could also contact and perceive messages from spirits, but it is not known if she was a medium, capable of piercing the astral plane and communicating with spirits that had passed over from the mortal realm. Contrary to popular belief, all human beings have the potential to psychic abilities and can see ghosts when they shift into the visible spectrum, but Findley's ability was acute enough that she could sense their presence in the non-visible spectrum. She might have been partially clairvoyant, capable of detecting psychic flashes from possible future events, such as went she saw the pentagram on Joe Haskell, a prophetic sign of potential victims of werewolves. She could also detect potential psychic behavior in others, such as Amy Jennings.
