Episode 3
(1st part)
Pedro: Ahi esta otra vez!...
Juan: Quien?
Pedro: La muchacha del otro dia.
Juan: La Condesita?
Pedro: La misma. (Juan smiles... goes down to the beach by the tree and sneaks next to her from behind...)
Juan: (looks at her from bottom up, then speaks loud intentionally, like wanting to startle her) Pense Satisfacer su curiosidad. (Aimee gets up faking offended) Acaso no queria conocerme?
Aimeé: No.
Juan: NO? (going along with her game of naive princess) No ha preguntado?
(turns away from him intentionally).
Juan: (looks at her from bottom up again, like when he came down) Y Usted es la mujer mas bonita que ha cruzado por estos lugares. Le gustaria tomar una copa de vino?
Aimeé: No tomo vino.
Juan: Pero podria acompanarme. (Aimee fakes thinking about it).

(2nd part of 1st meeting, chatting at Juan's house)
Juan: (serving himself a drink, she is sitting at the couch) Yo la verdad prefiero aguardiente, o ron... el vino es para paladares afrancesados... y exigentes. (comes to couch and sits at other end, bottle on table, toasts with her, she's drinking a glass of lemonade/juice?) A su salud... 'condesa'. ... .. Cual es su nombre?
Aimeé: (intentionally takes her time, like to provoke his curiosity..) Aimee... Y Usted??
Juan: Aimee?? .. (smirks) Que nombre tan raro!.. . A mi me dicen Juan del Diablo.
Aimeé: Pero cual es su verdadero nombre?
Juan: No tengo. (we can tell he is not exactly comfortable talking about the subject)
Juan: (wanting to change the subject right away) Mi origen no es interesante.
Aimeé: No.
Juan: Le gusta el mar?
Aimeé: Me esta empezando a gustar.
Juan: Cuando quiera (gets up to look out to his ship at the bay) puedo invitarla a dar un paseo en mi barco.
Aimeé: Tiene un barco?
Juan: Si. (points at the 'Satan' for her to notice.) ..
Aimeé: Asi es (she changes demeanor, like he touched a painful subject for her) ... Ya me voy.
Juan: La acompano.
Aimeé: No, no hace falta.
Juan: No se preocupe. Un tramo... nada mas. Se muy bien que no es... 'conveniente' ... que la vean conmigo.
Aimeé: No, no lo decia por eso.
Juan: Si. Es por eso! Pero yo no soy tan susceptible.... Despues de Usted.
(1st part)
Pedro: Here's she is again!...
Juan: Who?
Pedro: The girl we saw the other day.
Juan: The young Condessa?
Pedro: Herself. (Juan smiles... goes down to the beach by the tree and sneaks next to her from behind...)
Juan: (looks at her from bottom up, then speaks loud intentionally, like wanting to startle her) I thought I should satisfy your curiosity. (Aimee gets up faking offended) Or is it that you didn't want to get to know me?
Aimeé: How presumptuous!... And why should I be interested in getting to know someone like you?
Juan: I don't know... That's why I'm intrigued... I imagine you know who I am.
Aimeé: No.
Juan: NO? (going along with her game of naive princess) Haven't you asked? Everyone in San Pedro knows me. For some I am the devil himself (smiles). For others a poor man trying to make a living.
Aimeé: You may be anything but a poor man trying to make a living. (turns away from him intentionally).
Juan: (looks at her from bottom up again, like when he came down) And you are the most beautiful woman who has ever appeared in this place. Would you like to have a glass of wine?
Aimeé: I don't drink wine.
Juan: But you could keep me company. Or is it too audacious on the part of a 'desarrapado' like me to invite a... a 'condesa'?.. No, don't be afraid , I'm not the demon they say, and I know how to treat a lady. (Aimee fakes thinking about it).
(2nd part , chatting at Juan's house)
Juan: (serving himself a drink, she is sitting at the couch) I actually prefer aguardiente, or rum... wine is for palates which are French-liking... and demanding. (comes to couch and sits at other end, bottle on table, toasts with her, she's drinking a glass of lemonade/juice?) Cheers... 'condesa'. ... So you are one of the daughters of Dona Catalina de Altamira. .. What's your name?
Aimeé: (intentionally takes her time, like to provoke his curiosity..) Aimee... And yours?
Juan: Aimee?? .. (smirks) What a rare name!.. .They call me Juan del Diablo.
Aimeé: But what is your real name?
Juan: I don't have one. (we can tell he is not exactly comfortable talking about the subject)
Aimeé: You don't?
Juan: (nods a no) I didn't have a father who would give me his surname. I am some 'Juan'. Anyway!.. people... gave me a nickname... that I like!
Aimeé: But you must know who your parents were.
Juan: (wanting to change the subject right away) My descent is of no interest. We'd better talk about you... So you've just returned from the capital.
Aimeé: Yes. I lived there practically all my life. At the house of an aunt of mine. But I've returned.
Juan: (looks at her hand, looking for a ring) You don't have a husband... but I suppose that you are engaged.
Aimeé: No.
Juan: Do you like the sea?
Aimeé: I'm beggining to like it.
Juan: Whenever you like (gets up to look out to his ship at the bay) I can invite you to go sailing on my ship.
Aimeé: You have a ship?
Juan: Yes. (points at the 'Satan' for her to notice.) .. Is your sister older... or younger than you?
Aimeé: Older. She is going to get married soon.
Juan: Really? Then after the oldest one it will be your turn.
Aimeé: That's right. (she changes demeanor, like he touched a painful subject for her) ... I must go.
Juan: Let me walk you.
Aimeé: No, there's no need.
Juan: Don't worry. For a short distance...no more. I know very well that it's not 'proper'... for you to be seen with me.
Aimeé: No, that's not why I said it.
Juan: Yes. That's why! But I'm not that sensitive.... After you.
