Boys Night

Author's notes: Ok, I was reading 'Ladies Night' the other night (yes,
I'm one of those who reads her own fics), and then I suddenly
remembered I wanted to make a sequence, so here it is.
The rain fell and made the glass look like gel as Mark tried to concentrate on the road.
The stupid windshields of his old van were acting up again, making a weird squeak noise
every time they went down, and barely wiping any water as they moved.
"And, I mean, he said it was my responsibility for being second in charge, but how
can I possibly run the OR and ER cases at the same time. If you ask me, he is going
through more hormonal changes than a fifteen year old girl," Elizabeth rambled on as
she sat next to Mark, looking at him as though he was a bulls eye.
"Yeah, that can happen sometimes," Mark mumbled, still trying to see the road
ahead of him.
"Are you even listening to what I'm saying, Mark?" Elizabeth asked, somehow
annoyed.
Mark looked her way for the first time, but not for long, since he had to keep an eye on
the road. "Of course I am," he said convincingly.
"Oh yeah, then what did I just say?" Elizabeth asked as she crossed her arms and
looked at Mark intensely.
High school flashback. Mark was glad he was watching the road and not his wife, because
the expression on his face would have completely given him away. "Just that, you
know, Romano is at it again.," he said confidently.
"Hm," Elizabeth hummed suspiciously. "Anyway, he calls me up to his office
and asks me to sit down..."
'God will she ever shut up?' Mark thought. 'Doesn't she know I'm trying to drive here?
This is exactly the reason why women have more accidents than men, they just can't do one
damn thing at the same time,' he kept thinking. His brain finally made a victory dance
when out of a curtain of white rain, the parking lot of the hospital became visible.
Rain poured into his car as he rolled the window down to insert his parking card into the
slot and once it came out again, his car sped into the parking lot.
"Mark? Are you trying to kill us?" Elizabeth asked as her body sprung back and
forth.
"Sorry, I really need some new tires," Mark mumbled, pinning his parking
permission between his lips.
"You need a new car," Elizabeth protested. "Maybe a nice SUV, since the
family will grow soon," she said happily as she rubbed her stomach.
An SUV, great. Before he knew it, he was gonna have one of those stuffed Garfields sucking
on one of his windows and a "Baby on board" sticker on the back of his car.
"We'll see," he just mumbled. "Aha!" he shouted as he found a parking
spot, "Right near the entrance doors."
At that moment, a mysterious car snuck in front of him and stole his parking lot.
"Hey! Son of a bitch!" Mark yelled and hunk his horn at the same time.
"I think I saw another one on the back," Elizabeth said as she tried to look
over her head.
"No! This is MY parking spot, I saw it first," Mark said stubbornly. He took his
seat belt off and got off the car.
"Mark, please don't make a scene," Elizabeth said as she sat on her seat, but it
was too late.
"Hey, asshole. Didn't you see I was here first?" Mark asked sharply as he
approached a man, who was getting out of his car.
The man looked up at that, and seemed unaffected by Mark's yells. "Yeah, good thing
my car is faster," he said. He looked over Mark's shoulder, "You really need to
get rid of that van," he said and walked away as if nothing had happened.
Mark could feel his face turning red and various colors of purple, and as he clenched his
fists, he walked back and sat on this seat again. Without saying anything, he put his
shift on D, and advanced forward.
"Mark!" Elizabeth yelled as Mark used his van to push the man's car out of the
way, and finally left it in the middle of one of the lane. "Are you mad?!"
Mark parked his car on the parking, and turned the engine off. He looked at Elizabeth,
"Have a nice day, sweetie," he said happily and kissed her on the lips, gathered
his things and walked out of the car.
Elizabeth just sat there, her hand hanging on to that handle at the top of the window. She
finally fumed hot air through her nostrils and opened her door. "Men," she
muttered as she walked towards the hospital entrance.
"Dr. Malucci, you are the worst excuse of a doctor I have ever seen on all of my
medical years. And if I ever found myself in the need of medical assistance, I would
rather train a wild spider monkey to do the job you would poorly do!" Kerry yelled at
the young man, who just stared down at his own feet.
"It was an honest mistake, could have happened to anyone," Dave said as he tried
to defend himself.
"Yes, but it happened to you," Kerry kept yelling. She walked closer and stared
up at him intensely, "For the rest of the day, you will do nothing but charts, and
we'll talk about your punishment later," she hissed and walked away, leaving him
alone in the trauma room.
Dave looked up and gave her a hateful look, "Just as long as it's not something that
requires me being at a ten foot radius from you," he mumbled once Kerry couldn't hear
him. He turned around and for once, didn't wait until the nurses and housekeeping came in,
and began to clean the room.
The door opened once more, and for a moment he jumped back thinking it was Kerry again,
but his face eased when he saw Carter instead.
"What happened?" Carter asked. "I've never heard her yell so loud," he
said.
Dave just looked up at Carter and then down at the mess on the floor. "I accidentally
mixed two charts, and this guy almost died of an anaphylactic shock," he mumbled.
"Ow," Carter exclaimed.
"Could have happened to anyone," Dave said as he tried to defend himself.
Carter just nodded, not knowing what to say. Dave looked completely out there, and it was
the first time Carter actually saw him disturbed about one of his "stupid"
mistakes. He shook his head, "Anyway, we're going out for drinks tonight, wanna
come?" he asked hesitantly.
"Who's 'we'?" Dave asked.
"Oh, you know, me... and you," Carter fumbled. "If you say yes, of
course."
Dave's face spread into a smile, "Carter? Are you asking me out on a date?" he
joked.
Carter shot him an annoyed look, "Wanna go or not?"
"I would love to, but I'm afraid my girlfriend borrowed my black plumps," he
kept joking.
"Fine," Carter said in defeat and turned to leave.
"Oh, come on, I was just kidding," Dave said. "I'm off at seven, how about
you?"
"Same," Carter said, still walking out of the room.
Dave saw him leave and nodded to himself. Since he had started working here, he had never
gone out with any of the guys, mostly because his sociability settings were a little too
distasteful for the men here. But he was actually looking forward to tonight, maybe he
could meet a girl at the bar and ditch Carter somehow.
"Luka," Abby called out as Luka walked down the hall and into the supply room.
She ran after him and found him looking for something through the cabinets, although she
knew he wasn't actually looking for anything, and was doing that to throw her off. She
wrapped her arms around his waist, because he was too tall for her to wrap them around his
shoulders. "I'm sorry," she said but he didn't turn around. "Look, we can
definitely go away next weekend, but I just can't leave town tonight," she
apologized.
Luka turned around for the first time to face her, but she didn't pull away. Her hands
were still around his waist but she was looking at his face now. "Abby, I planned
that trip for weeks," he said, hurt.
"I know, I'm so sorry. And that was really sweet, but you really should have told me
first," she said, but his face didn't change, that made her feel ten times worst.
"Oh gosh. Look, I wanna get away from work and this awful weather as much as you do,
but if I miss this interview I won't have the opportunity to go back to med school in
August," she pleaded. His face eased a little, and she smiled slightly. "Tell
you what, we stay home this weekend, and I promise you the only reason we'll leave bed,
will be to come to work," she said and got on her tip toes to gently kiss his neck.
"Is there a way you can change those tickets for next week?" she whispered and
continued to kiss his neck.
Luka couldn't hear anything, but just felt as shocks of electricity traveled through his
spine. Damn that fucking interview. By this time tomorrow, they would be registering in a
hotel in Maui. Maybe she was right, who surprises a person with a trip to Hawaii for the
same day? But he thought that would be incredibly romantic. He had even talked Kerry into
letting him and Abby get a week off without letting Abby know. But what the hell, he
couldn't just go alone, and if he was going to miss his flight, he might as well get
something good out of it.
"I don't know, they ARE non refundable," Luka said sheepishly, and telling one
big lie.
Abby stopped what she was doing and brought her head back to look at him, her face filled
with guilt. "Oh, Luka," she moaned.
Luka felt bad at that, so he tried to backpedal a little, but still trying to make her
feel guilty. "Well, maybe I can talk to a friend who works on an airline, but you
know how those people are with the fees" he said.
"I'm so sorry," Abby apologized again.
Luka half smiled, "Eh, it's not your fault," he said and kissed her on the lips.
"I'll make it up to you," Abby said. "I promise."
"Yeah," Luka half moaned, but couldn't hide the disappointment in his eyes.
Abby looked out, "I have to get back," she said, kissed his nose and walked out
of the supply room.
Luka leaned against the crystal window of the cabinets and let out a sigh of frustration,
as Hawaii seemed even more distant now than it geographically was.
Mark rolled his eyes as he held he phone into his ear. "Fine, I'll see what I can
do... I love you too... bye," he finished and slammed the phone back in place.
Carter walked into the lounge in time to see that. "Trouble with a patient?" he
asked hesitantly, noticing Mark's bad temper.
"Rachel," Mark said as he walked in front of the coffee machine. "They
never call just to say hello, but as soon as she needs money, the calls pour," he
said.
Carter walked towards his locker and began to look for his watch on his bag.
"Teenagers," he mumbled. "Hang on to this, though, because the next thing
you know she'll be going on to college and then suddenly come back for Thanksgiving on her
second trimester," he said absentmindedly.
Mark dropped his cup of coffee at that, "Dammit!"
Carter turned around, "Sorry, I was just joking," he said.
"I'm not ready to be a grandfather," Mark fumed. "I'm already juggling a
pregnant woman, I can't handle two walking hormonal roller coasters at the same
time."
"I was just kidding, Mark," Carter laughed.
The door opened again, only this time, in walked Luka. "Either one of you ever been
to Hawaii?" he asked, still a little mad.
"No," Mark mumbled as he tried to pick up some of the broken ceramic pieces from
the floor.
"Once, when I was a kid. Beautiful beaches, best diving I've ever done," he
said, looking at what Mark was doing.
"Damn," Luka muttered and sat on the couch. The diving, that was what he was
looking forward the most.
Carter looked form Mark to Luka, "Am I missing something? Or was I left out on the
male PMS bash today?" he asked.
"What?" Mark and Luka asked at the same time.
"Nothing, everyone just seems to be having a bad day, except for the women,"
Carter noticed.
"Of course they're not having a bad day. They love to see us in a bad mood, they feed
on torturing," Mark said, a little paranoid.
"Yeah, and then it's justified when THEY are having a bad day, and they suddenly need
SPACE," Luka said, with his fingers as quotation marks as he said space.
Carter smirked, "Do you guys wanna get drunk tonight?" he asked.
Both Mark and Luka looked at Carter in a weird way.
"Dave and I are going for a couple of drinks after work," he said. "The
more the merrier, looks like you guys need to vent," he said.
Mark giggled, "Carter, men don't vent. Men punch a wall. Men wrestle other men for no
apparent reason. Men hide their feelings until they finally become this big ball of fire
and it explodes!" he said as he threw the remaining of his cup on the trash.
"Yeah, really," Luka joined in the sarcastic laughter.
"Ok, whatever, we'll just go ourselves," Carter said and began to walk out of
the room.
"Wait, wait, what bar are you going to?" Mark asked.
"Don't know, but Dave must know of a good place," Carter said as he stopped.
"Well, it looks like I'm not going to be boarding an airplane tonight, so, I'm
in," Luka said as he stood up and left the room.
Carter turned to Mark, "Mark?"
"I don't know," he said. "Elizabeth is meeting her father on New York for
some kind of mother-father-pregnancy-shopping celebration," he said bitterly.
"So? You're free then," Carter said.
Mark thought for a while, "Fine, I'll get drunk tonight," he said and walked out
of the room.
"A boys night out?" Abby asked Luka as he filled out a chart on the suture room.
"I don't know," Luka said. "Carter came up with it."
Abby sat on the bed next to him, "Are you going to a strip club?" she asked
innocently.
Luka looked at her, "Depends on how much we drink," he said and saw her face get
a little uneasy. He laughed, "No, we're not going to a strip club."
Abby looked around the room, "What time will you be home?" she asked.
"I don't know," Luka said. "Midnight?"
"Oh," Abby said and looked over at the chart he was reading.
Luka looked at her, "What? You don't want me to go?"
"No, no, go, have fun," she said.
"If you don't want me to go, I won't," he said, knowing how uneasy is was for
her when he drank, since she couldn't do it herself.
"Luka, please," Abby said incredulously. "Just make sure the person who's
driving isn't drunk," she said.
Luka smiled, "What time is your interview going to be over?"
"I don't know," Abby said and looked at her fingers, "I'm a little nervous
about it, that's all I know."
"You'll do fine," Luka said with a smile.
"We'll see," she said.
"Hey Luka! Ready for some topless ladies and brain damaging alcohol fest?" Dave
said enthusiastically as he walked in.
Abby looked at him annoyingly, "Dave, please don't drive tonight," she pleaded.
"Relax, Abby. Carter is the designated driver," Dave said and walked closer.
"Are you ready to go?" he asked Luka.
"Yup," Luka said and stood up, taking the chart with him. He turned to Abby,
"Good luck on your interview," he said.
"Thanks, have fun," Abby said as he kissed her.
Dave rolled his eyes, "Mrs. Lockhart, is it ok if Luka comes out to play?" he
asked sarcastically.
Abby looked at him and smiled, "Be careful because it's raining," she said as
Luka and Dave walked out of the room.
"You too," Luka stressed.
"Dave, we've been driving forever, please just think of a place, and let's go with
it," Carter said as he tried to focus on the road.
"Should have stayed home," Peter mumbled from the back seat, sitting between
Luka and Mark.
"Relax, this place is worth it, trust me," Dave said as he tried to focus on the
places, hiding the fact he had forgotten where this place was.
"It looks like it's raining even more," Luka noticed.
"And I can't see at all," Carter said, trying to focus on the road. A red flare
appeared in front of him and he suddenly stopped the car, swinging Luka, Mark, and Peter
forward.
A policeman walked over and Carter rolled down the window. "This road is closed,
there's a flood right ahead," he said.
They all rolled their eyes. "Thanks officer," Carter said and turned around.
"Perfect," Mark said sarcastically.
"What are we going to do now?" Luka asked.
"I guess we could find another bar somewhere," Carter said.
"You know what? I'm not really in the mood to go to a loud bar tonight," Mark
said.
"Me neither," Luka joined in.
"Oh, come on," Dave said.
"Any other suggestions?" Carter said as he looked through the rear view mirror
the men on the back.
Mark flinched his face, "Elizabeth is out of town, do you guys wanna just go over my
house and hang out?" he asked carefully.
No one answered.
"Or not," Mark said.
"It's better than driving around," Carter said.
"Whatever," Peter joined in.
Mark turned to Peter, as if he had noticed him for the first time. "What ARE you
doing here, anyway?"
"Carter invited me," he mumbled and kept staring straight ahead.
"Do you have alcohol?" Dave asked as he turned around to face Mark.
"No, but I do have a cabinet full of Folic Acid," Mark said. "I do have a
pool table, though," he added.
"Whoo hoo," Dave said sarcastically.
"Let's just go before I change my mind," Mark said and they headed off.
"Man, look at this place," Dave said as they walked in. "Do you guys ever
mess around?"
"Dave, you'll learn, when you get married, that woman dive on a potato chip as soon
as it hits the ground," Mark said.
Dave walked into the living room as the others walked around the house, and turned on the
television. The news were on.
"The rain started yesterday afternoon and hasn't stopped since. The meteorologists
are not certain about when it is going to stop. Again, this is a list of all the roads
which are closed. If you are going out tonight, make sure it is only for an
emergency," the newswoman said.
"Great," Mark said as he sat on the couch.
"What are we going to do?" Luka asked, opening a can of soda.
"I suppose you can stay here, until the rain passes," Mark said reluctantly.
"So call your wives and tell them... oh... right, I'm the only one hanging form a
rope here," he said bitterly.
"I'll call Abby," Luka said and walked out of the room.
"What's with you tonight, Mark?" asked Carter. "I haven't heard so many
sarcastic remarks since my uncle survived his last heart attack."
"Sorry," Mark said. "It's just this whole pregnancy, it's throwing me
off."
"Trust me, you have nothing to be scared of with Elizabeth, you should have seen
Carla when she was pregnant. I actually looked through the yellow pages for an
exorcist," Peter chipped in.
Mark laughed at that. "I guess. Maybe I just can't wait till the baby's here."
"Right, then all you have to worry about is 3 am feedings, diapers, post pardum
depression, and sleepless nights," Dave said.
"Another tip about The Wonderful World of Parenthood, by Dave Malucci," Carter
said sarcastically.
"Well, Abby said that the roads won't be open till tomorrow morning, if it stops
raining tonight," Luka said as he walked into the room.
"Did she give you permission to spend the night?" Dave joked.
"Shut up, Dave," Luka muttered and sat on the couch next to Peter, who was next
to Carter.
"I'll make some popcorn or something," Mark said as he stood up.
"I'll help you," Luka said and followed him out.
"Let's see if Mark has a good cable package," Dave said as he surfed through the
channels. "Blocked, blocked, blocked, blocked, oh, come on!" he exclaimed.
"Your cable will look the same way when you get married," Peter hissed.
"I would rather be caught masturbating in front of Kerry Weaver than married,"
Dave replied.
"Alright, we have popcorn, beer, chips, bread, cheese and ham, ice cream, and cookie
dough," Mark said as he walked into the room with Luka in tow.
Dave grabbed a bag of chips and kept flipping through the channels.
"Whoa! Meg Ryan, she's hot," Carter said as Dave stopped.
"What's that?" Luka asked.
"I think it's City of Angels," Mark said.
"Oh, I heard that towards the end, you can actually see one of her nipples,"
Dave said and got comfortable on the floor.
"No you can't," Carter said and they all looked at him. "I, I heard, I
don't..."
"What's this about?" Peter asked.
"An angel falls in love with a human, and he becomes a human to be with her,"
Carter said and they all looked at him again, "I, I heard, I don't..."
"Chick flick," Dave said and was about to change the channel when something
caught his attention. "Oh, hey, it's Nicholas Cage, he's cool," Dave said and
they all got comfortable to watch the movie.
Half way through the movie...
"Yeah, right, like they would let a fat cardiology patient sneak out of the hospital
like that," Dave commented.
"Shh!" Luka said, trying to pay attention to the movie.
"This part is important," Carter said, eating some popcorn.
There was a long silence in which they all just watched what was going on.
"I hope he does become human, I mean, I don't like that boyfriend of Maggie's. I just
don't trust him," Dave said.
"Of course not, he's got Romano written all over his face," Peter said.
"All he cares about is the money and his job, I'd dump him," Luka added.
"Shhh!" Mark hushed. "I think he's thinking about it," he added with
interest.
More into the movie...
"Yes! Go get her, she's in the cabin, IN THE CABIN!" Peter yelled at the
television.
"Oh, but then he's gonna walk in on her and her boyfriend," Luka said.
"Yeah, but she's in love with Seth. I mean, am I the only one who sees that?"
Dave asked as he turned around to face them.
"Shh!" Peter hissed. "She's gonna answer the door."
Peter, Carter, and Luka held hands and held their breaths as they waited for Maggie to
open the door.
"Yes! She's alone!" Mark cheered from his seat.
After the movie is over...
"Oh my God, I can't believe she died," Mark squealed as he covered his mouth,
trying to control the tears.
"That didn't really happen," Dave said in disbelief as he stared at the screen.
"No, you guys don't understand. Dying is part of living, and he wanted to be human.
He had to experience that to understand what it was like to be a man," Carter
explained, also touched by the movie.
"I know, but did they have to kill HER?" Luka asked, obviously mad. "That
fat guy was dying anyway, could have learn the lesson from HIS death."
"You know, you do all these things for women. You abandon your lifestyle to be with
them and then they leave you, this is just typical," Mark said in disbelief.
Dave turned off the television. "And then you can't just go back to the way you were
living before, because your bachelor pad is already rented by another guy," he said,
mad.
"I don't know about you guys, but I would rather change a little than just living
alone," Carter said, depressed.
"Oh, come on, Carter. You'll find someone," Peter said.
"Yeah, you're smart, and handsome, and funny, and caring. And if a woman doesn't see
that, well, it's her loss," Mark said.
Carter smiled lightly, "Thanks you guys."
Luka still stared at the television. "You know, this movie made me think. We
shouldn't sit around and wait for something to happen, we have to take chances." He
looked at all the men, and they were looking at him. "I've been thinking about buying
a house and asking Abby to move in with me," he said hesitantly.
Everyone smiled and various awws were heard around the room.
"I don't know, Luka. I think she's not ready yet," Carter said.
"How do you know?" Luka asked curiously.
"I don't know, just how her life is a mess right now," Carter said.
"Oh, that's right, she tells you everything," Dave said sarcastically.
"Well, I think it's a good idea," Mark said and turned to Luka. "One of our
neighbors is moving away, let me know and I'll hook you up."
Peter shook his head, "I don't know, Mark. I agree with Carter, you shouldn't just
make a decision for her like that, Luka. Take some time. You don't wanna end up like
Maggie's boyfriend."
"Oh my God, that movie has so many angles," Mark said, looking at the
television.
Dave, who had been looking at his reflection on the television, suddenly turned around.
"Do you guys think my roots are showing?" he asked.
Carter walked closer and inspected Dave's hair. "I think so, yeah."
"Damn," Dave muttered.
"Elizabeth has some hair dye upstairs, wanna dye it now?" Mark asked.
"Well, I don't know how to do it myself," Dave said.
"I'll do it," Carter said. Everyone looked at him again in a weird way.
"What? My sister didn't have other girls to play with when I was little, and she made
me her personal slave, I even gave her her first perm," he said.
"Ok, but don't mess it up," Dave said and they all headed for the bathroom.
"I didn't know Elizabeth dyed her hair," Peter said as he looked at the box of
dye.
"Oh, yeah. Her hair is naturally dark brown, she likes this chestnut color,"
Mark said.
"Ok, Dave, put this towel around your neck," Carter said and began to put the
dye evenly on Dave's hair.
"What's this?" Luka asked, holding a bottle.
Mark walked closer and inspected the bottle, "Hair remover."
Luka smirked, "Women. Why would they wanna remove their hair?" he asked
incredulously.
"I don't know, but it actually feels nice and soft when they do," Carter said,
still working on Dave, who was reading a magazine.
"What do you think my chest would feel against Abby's if I removed my hair?"
Luka asked curiously.
"I don't know, probably like really soft," Mark said absentmindedly, looking at
his nails.
Luka removed his shirt and began to read the label on the bottle.
"Luka!" Peter exclaimed.
"What? It's just one time," Luka said.
"Yeah, but once you remove it, it comes out longer and thicker," Peter said.
"Oh, that's an old wives tale," Mark said, and Luka began to pour the creme on
his chest.
"Did you guys hear about Kerry and that woman from psych?" Dave said in gossip
mode, as he still looked through the magazine and Carter put a shower cap on his head.
"Yeah, what's that about?" Mark asked.
"I don't believe it," Carter said as he shook his head. "I mean, I lived
with her for a long time, she would have told me."
"Unless she didn't want you to know," Dave said slyly.
"What does that mean?" Carter asked.
"Didn't you have a girlfriend at the time?" Dave asked.
"Yeah," Carter said.
"Maybe she thought that if you knew, you wouldn't bring your girlfriend around
anymore," Dave said, with a big smile on his face.
"Oh, come on, Dave," Luka said in disbelief.
"Yeah, you're sick," Carter said and threw a towel at him.
"How long are you supposed to leave that, anyway? It's starting to smell," Peter
complained.
"Around 20 minutes," Carter said.
Mark opened another one of the cabinets and took out another box, "Hey, this color is
different," he noticed.
"Light Brown," Carter said as he examined the box.
"Wanna try it on, Carter?" Dave asked.
"You think?" Carter asked in disbelief.
"Yeah, come on. And if it doesn't work, we can dye it back," Dave said and stood
up so that Carter could sit down.
"Ok, how do I take this off?" Luka asked, looking at the cream on his chest.
"Says here: remove with water or use a cloth if necessary," Peter said as he
read the label.
"Ok," Luka grabbed a towel and began to take it off.
"What's the expiration date on that dye, Dave?" Carter asked.
"In three months," Dave said as he put the dye on Carter's hair.
"Do you guys think Elizabeth will be mad if we use her stuff like this?" Mark
asked, worried.
"We can replace it," Luka said as he finished getting the cream off.
"There, how's that?" he said as he rubbed his chest.
Mark walked over, but only touched Luka's chest with his finger. He nodded, "Not
bad," he said and rubbed it some more. "Maybe I should do it."
Dave walked to them and took the box, "Does that work on the bikini area?" he
asked curiously.
"Ok, ok, ok, I have one. When I was in college, me and my girlfriend snuck into the
president's house, and we did it on his pool, never woke up," Dave said.
"Wow," Carter exclaimed as he sported a new light brown hair.
"How about you, Luka?" Mark asked.
"I don't think I can beat that," he said sheepishly.
"Oh, come on," Peter said.
"Ok," Luka said. "After the war, I lived in Italy for a while, and I met
this Italian girl, nothing serious." He paused for a moment, "The Sistine
Chapel, in the middle of the day, while there was a tour walking around," he finished
shyly.
"Wow!" Carter exclaimed again.
"We have a winner," Peter said.
"Is she single?" Dave asked as he ate some cookie dough. At that moment, there
was a loud thunder, and the lights went off.
"Uh oh," a voice was heard, belonging to Luka.
"Do you have candles, Mark?" Dave asked.
"I think so, in the kitchen," he said and stood up. "Anybody wanna
help?" he asked.
"Scared of the dark?" Dave mocked.
"No," Mark said defensively. "But it's better if four hands are looking for
them instead of two."
"I'll go," Peter said and stood up to leave after Mark.
"What time is it?" Carter asked in the darkness.
"I don't know, I can't see," Dave said.
Luka pressed the light of his watch, "12:34," he said. "I bet it's sunny
and warm in Hawaii right now," he said bitterly.
"Will you stop with that?" Dave said, annoyed.
"You're not the one who spent two thousand dollars on tickets and hotel
reservations," Luka protested.
"Well, next time it would be a good idea to tell her ahead of time," Dave said.
"Or just take her for a ride and don't tell her where you're going until you're on
the plane. Like when you take your dog to put him to sleep."
"Thanks, Dave, for that romantic analogy," Luka said sarcastically.
"So what? You can just go next week," Carter said.
"It's not the same," Luka said.
"No, because Abby now feels guilty and she'll do what you say for the next three
weeks," Dave said. "You have her on the palm of your hand now... for a
change."
Luka ignored Dave's last comment, "You're right, Dave," he said in awe.
"Yeah, let's see what she says now when you wake up horny in the middle of the
night," Dave said.
Carter rolled his eyes, although no one could see that.
"Candles are here," Mark said as he walked into the room.
"So are we going to bed or what?" Peter asked.
Dave took one of the burning candles and put it on a table next to him, where there was a
picture of Mark and Elizabeth on their wedding day. He took it and analyzed it carefully.
"How come none of us were invited to your wedding?" he asked Mark.
Mark looked up from what he was doing. "Uh, I don't know, it was a spur of the moment
thing. We were in New York, and there was a priest, and it just seemed to make
sense," he said.
"Just like that?" Carter asked.
"Well, we got the license afterwards," Mark said.
"Um, when I get married, I want it to be outdoors, maybe in the backyard of my
grandparents' house. And my tuxedo will have a blue cummerbund with a matching bow, and
there will be white roses everywhere," Carter said dreamily.
"I never liked big weddings," Luka added. "But I always wanted to get
married at the beach, no guests, just me and my bride," he said with a smile on his
face.
"When I get married, it'll be in my old neighborhood, and all my brothers will be
there with me. We'll walk out of the street church and the reception will be out on the
street, and I'll close the street," Peter said.
"I don't think Cleo would like that very much," Dave said.
"Well, she doesn't have to go if she doesn't want to," Peter said, not getting
Dave's comment.
"I guess I really don't care how big the wedding is, as long as I'm sure I'm marrying
the person I love, which I did," Mark said shyly.
"I always wanted the get married while jumping from a plane," Dave said.
"I always saw you getting married on one of those Elvis chapels in Las Vegas,
Dave," Carter said.
"Ha ha," Dave said sarcastically.
Luka turned to Mark, "So how did you and Elizabeth got together?" he asked
curiously.
"Oh, I don't know. I guess," he got comfortable on his seat, "We were both
supposed to go to a conference, but we missed it, so we crashed a wedding instead,"
he said, smiling at the memory. "But I guess I should thank Peter, for letting her
go," he added.
"You used to date Dr. Corday?" Dave asked Peter.
"Yup," Peter just nodded.
"How did you end up with Cleo?" Dave asked in disbelief.
"I don't know, I guess she was just there," Peter said unenthusiastically.
"How about you, Luka?" Mark asked.
"Hm?" Luka hummed, but then realized what he was asking. "Oh, well, I was
sitting outside of the hospital, and Abby came out, and we talked for a while, and then
she kissed me," he said and smiled. "Then the next week she asked me out on a
date," he finished.
"Geez, Kovac," Peter said.
"Yeah, don't worry about asking her to move in with you, cause it looks like someone
else is wearing the pants on that relationship," Dave said slyly.
"Somebody's whipped," Mark said with a giggle.
"Excuse me? Who blew me off for drinks last wee because Elizabeth wanted to make
pottery?" Luka mocked Mark.
"For your information, I happen to enjoy pottery," Mark lied. "And I made a
nice coffee cup, which I broke this morning," he added.
Carter rolled his eyes, which fell on Dave, who looked disturbed. "You ok,
Dave?" he asked.
Dave looked at him, "Yeah, I don't know," he mumbled. "What do you think
Dr. Weaver is going to do about my punishment?" he asked.
"I don't know, probably give you a warning," Mark said.
"That is so unfair," Dave moaned. "She hates me. I bet if it was Carter who
had made the mistake, she would have just given him a smile and a pat on the back, but
everyone hates me in that hospital," he protested.
"We don't hate you, Dave," Carter said.
"Yeah, you just need to keep your mouth shut every once in a while," Luka said.
"It's called hyperactivity, and it's a disease!" Dave protested.
Carter walked over and sat on the floor next to Dave, "Come on, Dave, just talk to
her, I'm sure she'll go easy on you," he said as he put an arm around his shoulder.
"I can try to put in a good word for you," Mark said.
"And I can tell her you're diseased," Luka said.
"Really? You would do that?" Dave asked, touched.
"Yeah," Mark said. "I mean, you're not a bad... doctor."
"You know, Maggie would be more than lucky to have angels like you guys," Dave
squealed.
"Aww," Carter, Luka, and Mark said. Peter rolled his eyes.
"Abby?" Elizabeth asked as she approached the entrance of her home, and saw the
young nurse there. "What are you doing here?"
Abby turned around, "I came to pick up Luka, they spent the night," she said.
"They?" Elizabeth asked as she looked at her keys on her purse.
"I thought you were in New York," Abby said.
"Flight was cancelled because of the rain, and the roads were closed, I had to sleep
in the airport," Elizabeth said, obviously mad. She opened the door and walked in
followed by Abby, "Who spent the night?"
"Luka, Dr. Benton, Dave, and Carter," Abby said, looking at the mess around her.
"Where are they?" Elizabeth asked in a whisper.
Abby walked into the living room, and once reached the couch, a smile appeared on her
face. "I think I found them," she said, staring at the 5 men, who were all
huddled under a blanket.
"Well isn't that sweet," Elizabeth said with a smile.
"Looks like a Kodak moment, doesn't it?" Abby whispered as the men slept.
"Actually, it is," Elizabeth said and disappeared into the kitchen. She came
back out with a camera and took a picture of the 5 men.
The click and the flash made Mark jump up, and once he did, he woke up the other 4.
"Good morning, sunshines," Elizabeth sang and Abby laughed.
Mark rubbed his eyes and looked at Peter, who was sleeping next to him. "Ah!" he
said and jumped up, the other men had the same reaction.
"Alright, it takes a lot of alcohol to make Dave Malucci sleep with another man, who
got me drunk?" Dave asked as he shook his head.
Mark turned to Elizabeth and Abby, "You won't tell anyone in the hospital about
this," he warned.
"No, of course not," Elizabeth said. "Just to the blind ones," she
said as she held a picture in the air, and her and Abby laughed.
Mark tried to snapp the picture away from Elizabeth, but she was too quick.
"Nice hair, Carter," Abby quipped.
"How was your interview?" Luka asked as he walked towards Abby.
"We'll see," Abby smiled, "Who needs a ride?"
"I do," Peter, Dave and Carter said.
"Ok, let's go," she said and walked out of the house with Luka in tow.
Mark walked over to Dave, Carter and Peter, "If either one of you says something
about 'City of Angels' I'll kill you," he muttered.
"Ditto," said the other three men in unison.
"Bye Elizabeth," Carter said.
"Take care now," Elizabeth said, wondering why Dave had her same hair color.
"So, did you guys have fun last night?" Abby asked as she looked at all the men
while she drove.
"Oh, you know, just a manly night," Carter said.
Abby noticed Luka scratching, "Something wrong with your chest?" she asked.
"No, mosquito bite, I guess," he lied. Luka turned around and gave Dave an
alarming look, and at that moment, Dave began to desperately scratch his crotch.
Carter looked over at Dave and made a disgusting face, "Can we stop for some Gold
Bond on the way home?"
The end.
