Disclaimer: None of them belong to me. Sadly this is the last part of my little farce. Thanks to all of those who have remained loyal fans for so long, it's been a fun ride. I might write more things in the future, encourage me. This story is rated S for Sasssy! Seriously though, it's hot! So send the kids to bed and snuggle up with a dear one. Hope you like it.
I just wanted you to comfort me
When I called you late last night, you see
I was falling into love
Yes I was crashing into love
Oh, all the words you sang to me
About life, the truth, and being free
Yeah you sang to me
Oh, how you sang to me
Girl I live for how you make me feel
So I question all this being real
Cause I'm not afraid to love
For the first time I'm not afraid to love
Oh, this day seems made for you and me
And you showed me what life needs to be
Yeah you sang to me
Oh, how you sang to me
All the while you were in front of me I never realized
I just can't believe I didn't see it in your eyes
I didn't see it
I can't believe it
Oh, but I feel it
When you sing to me
How I long to hear you sing beneath the clear blue skies
And I promise you this time I'll see it in your eyes
I didn't see it
I can't believe it
Oh, but I feel it
When you sing to me
Just to think you live inside of me
I had no idea how this could be
Now I'm crazy for your love
Can't believe I'm crazy for your love
The words you sang just sang to me
And you showed me where I wanna be
You sang to me
Oh, you sang to me
Abby stretched in her bed as the alarm clock startled her once more. She had been relying
on the snooze button for 20 minutes and this time decided to get up before she lost her
job. Normally a Thursday would be an exciting day for a reason none other than Must See
TV. Tonight she had a date. Although she didn't know if 'exciting' was the word she wanted
to use to describe it. More like, 'something out of the ordinary'. She glanced at the
clock once again before she got out of bed, immediately remembering that Luka had promised
to pick her up the night before. At the exact moment she finished getting ready, she heard
a knock at the door and smiled to herself, "perfect timing" she said to no one
in particular before she opened the door.
Abby: You didn't have to come all the way up here you know
Luka: I know (he added with a smile)
Abby: Well, now that you're here maybe you wanna carry my bag?
Luka: Of course (he said as she put her shoulder bag on him and laughed at the sight)
Abby: Ok, let's go
Abby locked the door and put her keys on her pockets as they started to walk down the
stairs. It had been raining non stop for the last two days, and they had to run towards
the car despite the fact that half way there, they were already soaked. Luka opened the
car door for her and waited until she was in to give her the bag and close the door. He
ran to his side and stepped in, trying to dry the water from his face with his hands.
Abby: This bad weather is making me loose my patience
Luka: They said it was going to continue through the weekend
Abby let out a sigh as she heard the news and sank on her chair. Luka carefully drove down
the street, fixated more on trying to see the road than anything else as Abby kept wiping
the thin layer of fog that was starting to form on the windshield.
Luka: Hey, do you want to go to the movies tonight with me and Carter?
Abby hadn't told Luka about her date with Dr Matthews yet. She had been trying all night
but every time she was about to, another reason popped into her head to make her back
down. She didn't know how he would take the news, they whole time they had been friends
neither of them had had a date. She had to tell him eventually. Besides, she was
absolutely sure that there was no reason why he would be upset about it. So she figured
right now would be as good a time as any.
Abby: Um, actually, Dr Matthews and I are going out tonight
The words came out of her mouth as if she had been rehearsing them all morning, and still
she didn't like the way they sounded. She tried not to look at him.
Luka: What do you mean? On a date?
Abby: Um, we're going out to dinner
Luka: On a date?
Abby: Yeah
She assured him, the 'yeah' still ringing in her ears as she wished they would arrive
already and she could run away from this awkward moment
Luka: Oh
Was all he said, more out of lack of words than anything else. She looked out the window
and couldn't help but feel like she had just stabbed him. They didn't say anything the
rest of the ride, each lost in their own thoughts. After what seemed like five years, Luka
finally pulled into his parking space at the hospital and they both walked towards their
respective departments, Abby promising Luka she would call him the day after.
Luka made his way into the er forcing his legs to move more than anything else. He opened
the door to the lounge slowly, praying that neither Dave nor Kerry would be inside, he
didn't feel like taking shit from anyone today. He was relieved to see Carter standing in
front of his locker, talking to Chuny about the girl he had been dating lately, Dina or
Tina or something, Luka thought. He smiled a hello to both of them as he moved towards his
locker. Chuny, sensing that something was going on, walked out of the lounge despite her
urge to stay and eavesdrop on their conversation. Carter looked at Luka for a while and
decided to break the ice.
Carter: Is Abby coming to the movies with us tonight? You guys can meet Georgina
Luka: No, she's not coming. And if you don't mind, I think I'll take a rain check as well
Carter stared at him questioningly. Luka had become so eloquent this past year. If it
wasn't for that thick accent, anyone would think he was an American. Before Carter could
ask him what was wrong, Luka was already on the other side of the door, with two charts on
his hands and a forced smile on his face as he lead to patients into curtain three. Carter
made a mental note to talk to Luka later, right now, he had patients to see.
Abby stepped out of the elevator in a little hurry as she glanced at her watch once more.
She was supposed to be there before one of her patients went into surgery to have a bone
marrow transplant and as she passed the ICU, she saw the doctors and nurses pushing a bed
towards the elevator. She sighed and dropped her head in defeat. At the same time Dr
Matthews appeared out of nowhere and approached her.
Abby: I'm so sorry I'm late. It's the apocalypse out there.
Phil: It's ok. She's asleep, we'll tell her you were there.
Abby: Thanks (she said with a genuine smile as she moved into the lounge to put her things
away, Phil in tow)
Phil: So, about tonight (Abby had wished he would have forgotten about their date tonight,
obviously he didn't) I was thinking that after dinner we could go out dancing.
Abby: Really?
Phil: Yeah. Well, the weather is so awful that it's either that or going to the cheap
theater downtown (his effort to make her laugh failed)
Abby: Ok (she said while she scanned in her mind what she would have to wear tonight)
Phil: Ok, well, I'll pick you up at 6 all right?
Abby: Sure
Phil: See ya then
He muttered as he walked out. Abby rested her head on the wall and took a deep breath,
hung her stethoscope around her neck and walked out.
Four floors down, Carter walked to the front desk after discharging his last patient.
Carter: Hey Randi, have you seen Luka?
Randi: Not the way I'd like to see him, but I think he went upstairs
Randi answered unemotionally. Carter thanked her and immediately knew where to look when
she said upstairs. He opened the door to the roof and saw a dark figure resting against
the ledge of the building. The rain had stopped for a while, but the smell of humidity in
the air made it obvious that it would start raining again soon. He walked closer and stood
next to Luka, resting his body on the ledge as well
Carter: So, are you gonna tell me what's wrong or am I gonna have to threaten to push you
over?
Luka just smiled. Carter had been a great friend both to him and Abby. He knew Carter
wouldn't go away without making him talk about what was bothering, the problem was, Luka
didn't know himself. Reason enough to convince him to talk to someone about it
Luka: Abby has a date tonight, with Dr Matthews.
Carter immediately knew what the problem was. He had been a mere observer in the Abby/Luka
relationship. He had seen the way they Tango each other around, taking and giving. It was
just a matter of time before something like this happened. He gave him a look as if asking
him 'So?' Luka continued.
Luka: I don't know why it's bothering so much.
Carter: Are you sure?
Luka (after thinking hard): No (he said slowly and continued after a brief pause) This
wasn't supposed to happen.
Carter: Why not?
Luka: I just thought that, after my wife died, it just wouldn't happen again. I should
have been more careful. And now she's going out with, some guy. And it's killing me.
Carter: Just tell her Kovac. Because it's gonna keep killing us all if you don't move on.
Luka: Yeah
Luka forced his last word as Carter patted him on the back and started to walk back into
the building. Luka kept staring into the city and was brought back from his reverie when a
small raindrop landed on his bare arm. He retrieved his body from the ledge of the
building reluctantly and headed back for the er.
Abby had decided to go home early to get ready for her infamous date. She opened her
closet and moaned after the realization that it was half empty. She knew Dr Matthews would
take her some place fancy. And dancing, she hadn't gone dancing in ages. Pushing almost
her entire wardrobe to the end of the closet, she found a dress she thought she had thrown
away a long time ago. It was a long, silk, black dress. Nothing fancy, but simple enough
to look delicate on her figure. After the surprising fact that it still fit, she proceeded
to apply a thin layer of makeup on her face and a light tone of lipstick. She was
unconsciously trying not to look her best, maybe Matthews would just turn her down. She
put her hair up while single locks of hair were allowed fall down. After looking at the
finished product on the mirror, a loud knock came from her door. She walked over and
opened the door to reveal a tuxedo Dr Matthews, with a single rose on his hand.
Phil: Wow, you look great
Abby: Thanks (she said blushing and taking the rose from him)
Phil: Ready to go?
Abby: Yeah
Abby got her purse and they both walked out the door. They arrived at an Italian
Restaurant soon after. Abby thinking that he might have heard her say something about
Italian being her favorite food. It was still raining, and as Matthews handed the keys to
the Ballet driver, he opened Abby's door while he covered her with an umbrella. They
stepped inside and Abby's mouth dropped at the sigh of the restaurant. It was the most
elegant thing she had ever seen in her entire life. Everything was so shiny and delicate.
She noticed a ballroom at the end of the long hall and smiled. Talk about killing two
birds with one stone, she thought. He pulled a chair out for her as he motioned for the
waiter to bring them a bottle of wine. Abby looked around and couldn't help but feeling
incredibly out of place. Women filled with jewelry and good manners pranced about in their
delicate dresses and made rude remarks about who was out and who was in. The waiter came
back with an opened bottle of wine and poured them both a glass. Matthews raised his, an
indication that she were to do the same.
Phil: To possibilities.
She smiled as they clinked their glasses and drank its contents. The night started with
conversations about work more than anything else, Abby wanting to stay away from his and
her personal lives. The food arrived sooner than she had expected, and was taken away with
equal speed. The moment she knew would have to come sometime arrived as Phil got up from
his chair and motioned her to go to the dancing floor with him. With a fake smile pasted
in her face at all times, they moved slowly to the music played in the background. Resting
her head on his shoulder she couldn't help but feel that this felt wrong. She knew she
didn't belong here, more like: with him. But she decided to endure the night and at least
indulge the man who had gone through so much trouble to impress her tonight. When the
night was over, he drove Abby back to her apartment and parked in an available spot in
front of the building.
Phil: I had a great time
Abby: Me too (she half lied. Phil moved over to kiss her but Abby immediately moved her
head out of his way) I'm sorry Phil. I appreciate all this, but I don't think this is
going to work out. I'm sorry (he looked disappointed but understanding)
Phil: It's ok. I'm sorry too. Well, at least we got a fun night out of it
Abby: Yeah. I mean, you're a great man, and a good friend. It's just that...
Phil: I know. You don't have to explain. (he smiled) Here (he handed her an umbrella), you
can give it back on Monday.
Abby: Thanks. Good night
She said good-bye with a genuine smile on her face, the first time tonight, and got out of
his car. Matthews made sure she got into the apartment building and drove away. Abby made
it up the stairs with her keys in her hand. Opening doors really fast was something people
around here were really good at. She opened her door and put the umbrella against the
corner as she turned the lights on. She let out a sigh and jumped back as she saw a body
sitting on her couch, looking at her. It took her a while to realize it was Luka.
Abby: Oh my God! Are you trying to kill me?
Luka: I'm sorry, I didn't mean to scare you (he said as he got of the couch with a smile
in his face) You look beautiful
Abby: Thanks (Abby said, not really sure how to take that. She took a long pin out of her
hair and a single bundle of brown hair fell on her shoulders as she straightened it down)
Do you want something to drink?
Luka: Um, no thanks
Abby: What are you doing here?
Luka: How was your date?
Abby: Are you trying to avoid my question?
Luka: Are you?
Abby (it took her a moment to react): It went well actually (she tried to test him. He
just stood there, hands in his pockets while she moved around the kitchen, not really
doing anything but pretending to. She suddenly stopped and faced him, as if asking him to
say something)
Luka: I don't want you to see him again (he said as he moved into the kitchen and in front
of her)
Abby: What? (she muttered as half a giggle came out with the word, half in disbelief and
half in anger. She waited for him say something, or at least move, but as he didn't she
was forced to continue) Who gave you permission to tell me what to do and who to
do it with?
She looked at him with an expression of both demand and questioning. His head dropped in
frustration and his hands rubbing his temples to relieve stress. He looked at her again,
her face still pointed at him, and sat down on a tall stool facing her. She walked closer
as to pressure him to say something. He took her hand in his and looked at her once more,
this time his green eyes fixated on her soft brown ones.
Luka: You know Abby, when my family died I made a promise to myself that I would never
have to go through something like that again. And all the events that followed were
insignificant for me because for the first time in my life I was able to ignore and
manipulate my feelings. And everything was so, dark
She was looking at him now with a stare of understanding and sympathy. He looked down to
collect his thoughts once more and continued.
Luka: Then, you came into my life and slowly everything became clearer and brighter. You
made so much for me. You made flowers smell again, you made the rain sweet water, you made
my life worth living.
Tears slowly began to fall out of Abby's eyes and run through her face. Luka's free hand
moved slowly to her face and dried a tear in one tender motion, unaware that tears were
beginning to fall down his as well.
Luka: Abby, I don't know how or when it happened, but I fell in love with you. And I tried
to bury those feelings away, but I can't. Every time we say good-bye I put them away, but
every time I see you I fall in love with you all over again
He didn't care about sounding corny or like a character of a cheap romance book. This was
something that was coming out of his heart. And he needed to tell her so that she could
understand exactly the way he felt. He took a deep breath and continued,
rubbing his fingers against hers
Luka: Abby I want to be with you, I need to. Because every time that we're apart I miss
you so much that I find it hard to breathe. I don't know why this happened and I don't
care, because right now the only question in my mind is if you feel the same way about me.
And if you don't just tell me, and I'll swallow these feelings and walk away. But I need
to know.
Abby had been looking at him in the eyes almost without blinking. Every word made her feel
closer to heaven. Never had anyone said such beautiful things about her. And the fact that
it was Luka standing in front of her, made it all twice as precious. She looked down as
another tear jumped from her eyes to their intertwined fingers, looked at him again and
found that look in his face which always made her feel like the most important person.
Staying silent, she took a step closer and put her hand to the side of his face, wiping a
motionless tear with her thumb. Their eyes met once more as she got closer and brushed her
lips against his, feeling them barely move against hers. She pulled away after a few
seconds, far enough so that she could say something but still so close she could feel his
breathing on her sensitive skin. In a moment so miraculous and full of love, Abby's voice
altered the silence "I love you too" were the only four words she knew how to
pronounce right now. Words muttered so soft and low that they merely bounced off Luka's
lips and made it to her own ears. It was his time to act now. While a small smile formed
in his face, inside all the feelings and emotions made his heart skip a couple of beats.
He moved closer and kissed her again, this time a little more confident than the first
time, making the kiss deeper as each second passed by. His left arm found it's way around
Abby's waist as the other one caressed her face, moved slowly into her hair and rested on
her neck. Their lips moved nsync, each movement becoming more and more violent as months
of yearnings and emotions were being released in one single action. Their hands started to
explore their bodies in an impulse while Luka's tongue parted Abby's lips so that he could
take a better taste of her. She moaned at the gesture. They were both entangled in a
moment they knew wouldn't last forever. Luka's right arm moved slowly downwards only to
bring Abby's whole body up in a fast movement. They both smiled and continued kissing each
other as Luka walked towards Abby's room with her in his arms.
Lying her in the bed gently, he slipped on top of her and they both let their bodies act
from now on. He kissed her softly while his hands worked on taking her dress off, his
mouth leaving little traces as it moved from her face to her breasts. Abby arched her head
back as her body responded to his. After his mouth found hers again, she saw an
opportunity to unbutton his shirt and pants, revealing the many muscles that composed his
body. She rolled on top of him and followed the same pattern his mouth had earlier. As the
rain poured outside, and time took it's usual course in the busy city of Chicago, in the
small apartment both Abby and Luka were able to stop time as they found each other's
minds, bodies, and souls. They both silently prayed for this moment and actions to never
stop. And although they both knew that clocks everywhere were still ticking, the fact that
they finally had each other was comfort enough. As they kept consummating their love,
their bodies absorbed and released all the energy around them and despite their fights and
silent protests, they fell asleep in each others arms.
Abby stretched in her bed as her unconscious advised her it was time to wake up. She took
a deep breath and smiled as she felt an unusual warmth coming from the right side of her
bed, an arm tangled around her waist. She rolled over to find Luka sound asleep, a lock of
his hair resting in his forehead. She moved it away from his face gently and stared at
him, his face radiating peacefulness. Rays of sun came in through her window as the water
filled clouds moved eastward. Out of sheer instinct, Luka opened his eyes and smiled at
the sight of Abby's face. He touched his nose and forehead against hers as his arm pulled
her closer to him, moving his head slightly downwards to find her lips and touch them with
his. "Morning" he whispered, their eyes closed. "Hi" she retaliated
while her hand massaged his back gently. "The sun came out" she added with a
smile before he kissed her again, both drained out from the night before. "Thank you
for a wonderful night" he said while smelling her hair "Thank you"
she said while kissing his neck and resting her head on his chest, Luka resting his lips
on her forehead and playing with her hair. "Do you wanna go get some breakfast?"
she asked him "Not really" he joked. She raised her head to take a better sight
of his face. He looked so content, all those traces of sadness that were directly
proportional to 'Luka' gone now. He pulled her up to touch his nose with hers again,
pulling the strands of straight brown hair that were falling from her head and face to his
neck. He looked her in the eyes and muttered words that he knew he would never say enough,
no matter how many times he did say them "I love you." She smiled and whispered
back, "I love you too" He moved his face closer to hers as his lips found hers
once again. Both feeling their naked bodies under the sheets. He smiled against her lips
and suddenly felt a jovial energy explode inside of him. This felt right, it felt perfect.
For the first time in years he talked to God again and thanked him for this moment, for
this woman, for second opportunities, and for love. At that exact moment he was born
again, only this time, he knew everything was going to be all right. It already was.
The End :)
