DISCLAIMER: I DON'T OWN ER.
RATING: 13, some what mild for a MacArthur story.
AUTHORS NOTE: This was my first fan-fic that I wrote months ago, so it's kind of weird.
Mark glanced out the window, Carter and Lucy were playing basketball with some of the neighborhood kids.
"Hey Carol," he chided still looking out the window, "You know who would make a good couple."
"Who?" Carol replied not looking up from her chart.
"Carter and Lucy,"
"What?" Carol looked up at her friend who was eating a bagel and staring out the window.
"I don't know, they seem so...so" Mark looked for a word.
"Innocent?" Carol suggested.
"Yeah, innocent"
"Well anyway, it couldn't happen, I mean Lucy is his med. student and he's her teacher." Carol stated joining him at the window.
"I know, I know," Mark continued.
"But now that you mention it, they do make a cute couple," Carol took a sip of her coffee.
"See," Mark added.
"Well, as much as I'd like to stay and play match-maker with doctors and there med. students, I have work to do." Carol stated as she handed a pile of charts to Mark.
"Ready," Lucy yelled, it was a gray December's day. It had been a slow morning in the ER, so Weaver let her and Carter have an extra-long break to shoot some hoops with the locals.
"Ready," answered the little girl that sat on top of Carter's neck. Lucy threw the ball and the little girl caught it.
"Okay, throw, Chantelle" Carter encouraged, the 62 pound girl was starting to hurt his neck but he hadn't had this much fun in such a long time. Growing up he had always been told to behave himself, Lucy had persuaded him to come outside but he was glad she had.
The little girl chucked the ball, it flew threw the air, Chantelle's brothers Tyrone, Justin, DeShawn and William McQueen watched as it hit the red square and made a basket.
"Oh YEAH!" Lucy cried as she gave Chantelle a high 5.
"No fair, she had you guys," William complained.
"Yeah, we demand a rematch!" Tyrone yelled.
"Will just have to take you up on that offer, won't we Luce" Carter said putting Chantelle down.
"Umm, it will have to wait, Weaver wants us in, now," she said looking at her page. Carter felt the vibrating beeper in the back of his pocket.
"Yeah, we'll see you guys later, ok?" Carter took off his winter jacket and put his lab coat back on.
"Who is Weaver and why is she always telling you to go back inside," Justin asked as he picked up the ball.
Carter and Lucy laughed.
"Believe me if you met her, you'd be trying to get out and play basketball with your favorite team mates, the McQueens', whenever possible." Lucy joked as she walked back into the ER.
"Bye, you guys," Carter waved and turned around to see Lucy smiling.
"I'd love to have kids someday," Lucy admitted. She had always dreamed of having a family, she just hadn't met a Mr. Right yet, she had certainly met a lot of Mr. Wrongs though.
"Me too, someday, that is," Carter added as they walked into the ER.
"So why have we been dragged back into here?" Carter complained as he noticed there was snow beginning to fall on the streets of Chicago. He would be heading out of here at 12:00 and on a plane heading to either the New York or San Diego.
"4 year old, slipped on some ice, possible 3rd and 4th carpal tunnel broken. Here's the X-ray and this is hopefully your last case until your vacations, so where are ya' off too?" Weaver asked as she handed them the manila envelope with x-rays inside.
"Most likely, Sunny San Diego," Carter affirmed.
"I'm probably staying home with my room mate. Were just going to do absolutely nothing for a week," Lucy added. She had secretly wanted to go somewhere but there wasn't enough money. Her mother was in the south of France for the winter, so spending her vacation time in a broken down dorm room with no heating was the only option.
"Well, hope you have fun, just make sure your back before Christmas eve, for double shifts," Weaver yelled as they walked to exam 3.
"Yes, Weaver," They said in unison. There was something about those two, Weaver thought, it was like they belonged together.
"Ok, its all yours, Ill evaluate," Carter decided as they looked at the films.
"Weaver was right, there is a broken 3rd and 4th tunnel on the right hand and a strained wrist, should we send him up to ortho?" Lucy asked.
"No, we can put it on here, uh-oh" Carter said looking at the kids chart.
"What?"
"No health insurance, they might not want the cast." Carter answered.
"Well this kid needs a cast, he'll have permanent damage if he doesn't get one," Lucy implied.
"Will just have to see if the parent is willing to pay," Carter said pushing the door open.
"Antonio Gusparia, Mrs. Gusparia, I will be your care taker today, I'm 4th year med. student Lucy Knight, Dr. Carter will be evaluating me." Lucy said as she looked at the chart.
"He fell on the ice, I just wanted to make sure he ok," Her English was crude.
"Well, your son did break 2 bones in his hand and he will be requiring a cast." Lucy hated being the bearer of bad news.
"How much will it cost to get him a cast?" Mrs. Gusparia asked, you could see the doubt in her eyes.
"Well, this particular cast would cost $900 to $1000." Lucy gurged.
"Oh no, I'm sorry to bother you, we have to go now, good-bye!" Mrs. Gusparia said pushing the child out the door.
"But Mama, it hurts," The little boy cried.
"Please Mrs. Gusparia, consider it," Lucy tried to be persuasive.
"I make $60.00 a week, my worthless husband drinks up half of it and do you think $30.00, is going to feed him and his 3 brothers and sisters and buy him a cast, I don't think so." Mrs. Gusparia hammered on Lucy. Carter had been watching the whole scene and saw the desperateness in Lucy's eyes. She really cared for her patients, he decided it was his turn to step in.
"You know Lucy, I should test you on putting a cast on, if it's ok with Mrs. Gusparia to let her son be part of the evaluation." He intoned.
"What?" Mrs. Gusparia asked.
"We can put on his cast for free if you keep a low profile," Lucy whispered as she shut the door.
"Really, oh God bless you!" Mrs. Gusparia smiled.
"I'll go sneak the supplies," Carter said, walking out of the room. Lucy smiled at him. He was very caring towards his patients, it was something Lucy admired about him.
"Okay, I'm back, Lucy would you please demonstrate how to put on a cast." Lucy preformed the cast laying quickly and thoroughly.
"Once again, May God bless you, Merry Christmas," Mrs. Gusparia beamed.
"You too. Just try to hide his cast so we don't get in trouble," Lucy replied as Mrs. Gusparia and her son left the room. They began to pick up the extra pieces of cast off the bed.
"We'd better get this cleaned up before Weaver or Romano finds out," Carter murmured.
"So how'd I do," Lucy asked. Carter was beginning to notice how pretty she looked when she smiled. He leaned on a tray that was not capable of holding his weight.
"Um, you were uhh," crash Carter fell on the floor and everything on the tray went flying in the air. Lucy laughed as she got on her knees to pick up the contents that were on the tray. Carter smiled, anytime he made her laugh he felt instantly better.
"You know, that was really nice of you, to let them have that cast" Lucy said getting a little closer.
"Well. you know, it is the Christmas seas" his voice trailed off, Lucy's blue eyes glinted, she was just too pretty. He came closer and kissed her. It lasted only a few seconds but it was just long enough for them to share a brief moment of bliss.
"Did I just kiss you?" Carter asked, he had a really big feeling of regret for just doing that. He was her teacher, he couldn't fall in love with his med. student.
"Yes," Lucy smiled. She had liked Carter for awhile, they'd always been friends but it always seemed like Carter wasn't interested in her.
"Damn," Carter stressed.
"What?" Lucy said in an uncertain tone..
"Luce, I'm your teacher, your my med. student,"
"So"
"Its best we keep these feelings to ourselves," Carter could sense the pain she was feeling.
"Ok, fine well keep these things to ourselves!" Lucy ran out of the room, she was beginning to cry.
"Luce, wait, we can still be friends!" He yelled chasing after her.
"Carter at the moment you are not my friend," she hissed, putting her lab coat in the locker, her voice had a raw edge too it.
"Lucy, you don't have to act all immature about this, were handling this the adult way," Carter was starting to get annoyed that she wasn't seeing it how he was.
"Carter, I really liked you but you know what, right now your acting like the stuck-up bastard you are!" Lucy was so upset, that her comment had made her feel better.
"Well, at least I'm not the one getting all upset over this, maybe you should take some Ritalin!" Carter was astonished at what he just said. It was so unlike him, he could feel the hurt in Lucy's eyes as she turned around. Lucy felt weird inside, she had just been head over heals in love with him and now all she wanted to do was throw something at him. She looked in her bag, she picked up the sharpest thing there, Carter's wrapped Christmas present- a picture frame and threw it at his head. And with that she headed out the door.
"Owww," Carter felt his forehead. He shoved the present into his locker and headed out.
"Carter, I don't know how you did that to your head, but you should really have that looked at before you leave." Kerry said eyeing the bruised cut on the corner of his fore-head. Carter glanced at his reflection in the mirror, it did indeed need stitches.
"Who can take a look at it?" Carter asked.
"Mark, 15 minutes though."
Lucy began walking towards the El, she was so lost in thought she didn't notice her room-mate beeping the horn.
"Hey, Goosey-Lucy, Wake-up?" Lucy turned around to see her room mate and best friend, Breanna honking the horn on there pea-green 73' gremlin.
"Sorry, Brea, something was on my mind, what's up?" She said climbing in. She noticed the back was had a bunch of suitcases and bags.
"Your not going to believe this! I got 2 plane tickets to the big apple!" Breanna yelled in excitement. Lucy forgot all the feelings Carter had hurt and was filled with joy.
"Look out, New York! Here we come!" Lucy cried.
Carter felt his head, thank-goodness he didn't need stitches but Mark seemed to find it amusing when he found the chip of terracotta from the frame in Carter's head. He headed out to the parking-lot, he was still mad at Lucy. In fact, he was full of rage, because of Lucy. He got into his car an looked at the clock, 1:45, 'Great' he thought I'm late. He flipped on the radio, he had to vent and since it was rare that Carter vented, he wasn't actually sure how to do it.
First station... "And you otta know, that the mess you left is still here."
Second station... "In case you failed to notice, in case you failed to see."
Third station... "Stop doing what you keep on doing."
'God!' he thought, 'Is there anything on the radio that doesn't involve Alanis, Jewel, Catatonia or any other angry female.' He flipped the switch once more and Pretty fly for a white Guy by the Offspring came on. 'Finally!' he thought. Carter pumped the music up and began to sing along. There was a red light so he slowed down, but he kept on singing.
"And all the girls think I'm pretty fly" and with a high pitch voice imitating the girls, "for a white guy!" he was head slamming when he noticed Abby and Dave staring at him from the side walk.
"You Rock, Dr. Carter!" Dave yelled. Carter hit the gas pedal and headed out of there as fast as he could.
"So what's up, you seem quiet?" Breanna asked her friend as they waited in line at the airport.
"I had a fight with my teacher," Lucy confessed, her friend could read her like an open book.
"Again! I swear if I ever meet this guy, I'm going to slug him!" Breanna said as she put her long brown hair into a bun.
"Well it was sort of different this time, see" she was about to confide about the kiss when Breanna put her finger too Lucy's lips.
"Were not going to even think about mean old teachers and I'm not even going to care if I don't practice my dance exercises" Breanna was a committed dancer, she was always jumping around there teeny dorm room.
"Were gonna have a hell of a great time, meet lots of hot guys, go shopping and of course party!" Breanna always knew how to put a smile on her best friends face. She had been worried about her recently. She came home at weird hours and when she was home all she did was sleep and complain about her med. teacher...
Karper something.
Carter ran into the airport, he was so late, 'hopefully, San Diego will still be here,' he thought. Just then a voice came over the loud speaker.
"San Diego has now departed." 'Damn!' Carter thought.
"New York, will begin boarding now."
"Ok, I'm going to New York." Carter said as he an towards the ticket desk.
"1 ticket to New York please!" he panted.
"We only have first class available," the woman informed him.
"Yeah, yeah, yeah!" He threw the money at her and grabbed the ticket. New York's gate was all the way on the other side of the airport. Carter began to run, and run and run. He ran faster then he had ever run before. Finally he was there, "Has this plane left yet?" He said struggling for breath.
"Enjoy your flight," the man said pointing at the gate. Carter headed off again.
"Merry Christmas, thanks!" he yelled running threw the gate. When he finally got to his seat he was sweaty and gasping for air. He was going to New York. That's what he had wanted; to visit his high school friend Richie. But his parents had wanted him to visit, Aunt Flo and Uncle Bob, but obviously it was too late for that. Little did he know that someone else was also heading towards the big apple.
"He's just heinous," Lucy finished.
"I wish I had a man in my life," Breanna stated.
"What do you mean? Carter is the most annoying, stuck up, little boy in the world!"
"Calm down Lucy, I mean think about it, there's 3 guys in all of my ballet class 1 of them thinks he's Gods greatest gift to woman and the other two, well lets just say there seeing a lot of each other at the moment," Breanna joked. The two girls laughed.
"Hey you wanna play cards," Lucy asked her eyes glinted.
"Sure, I think I threw some in the front pocket, can you reach it?" Breanna pointed at Lucy's bag.
"I'll get them," she said ducking down. Just then Carter walked by.
"Wow, major hottie alert," Breanna said checking out Carter on his way to the bathroom.
"Where?" Lucy's head popped back up.
"You just missed him, he looked so your type! You should go make a move on him," Breanna persuaded.
"I'm not really in the mood for guys," Lucy said shuffling her cards.
"Yeah, lets play card," Breanna replied. Carter opened the door and walked out of the plane bathroom. There was cart coming down the aisle he had walked down so he crossed over to the other side and headed for first class. Just as he was about to walk out of coach he noticed a wisp of golden blonde hair. 'Lucy?' he said to himself. No it couldn't be her, she was a med. student, how could she afford a trip to New York?
"So, how did we get these tickets?" Lucy asked just as the thought came to her mind.
"Well, it all started when I was really craving McDonalds black coffee, so I pulled in, ordered it and just as I hand the kid the money he spills it on me! Well I wasn't really hurt but I said they'd hear from my lawyer," Breanna began.
"But you don't have a lawyer" Lucy implied.
"I know but it sounded really threatening at the time, so anyway later that day the manager comes up to me with 2 return plane tickets to New York and gives them to me as long as I stay quiet."
"Cool, so where we staying?" Lucy loved her friends spontaneity, she always had something interesting going on in her life.
"St. Christopher's Hotel, its not fancy but it will do."
"Anywhere is better then our dorm room," Lucy chirped.
Breanna slept most of the way, she said she wanted to be ready for some major partying tonight. But Lucy stayed up to watch the in-flight movie which was her all time favorite movie-When Harry Met Sally. She began to relax. 'This was going to be good' she thought, '1 week, without anything to do with medicine, no patients, no double shifts, no Carter,' she could no longer see why she had been interested in Carter, all he did was push her aside.
On the other side of the plane Carter began to relax too. He didn't watch the movie because he knew it would only make him think of Lucy. '1 week, no medicine, no patients, no double shifts and no Lucy,' he thought. He too was beginning to no longer see why he had liked Lucy, she was too perky and annoying. It wasn't long before the plane began to land, it was sunset when they hit the runway at Newark.
"Breanna, can you believe it, were in New York City!" Lucy was so enthralled with excitement.
"Lucy, I swear, you get too excited over something's, but I have to admit New York does look stunning with the snow falling."
"Yeah well, you grew up here," Lucy added.
"That's true, come on hun, I'll show you how to hail a cab like a pro."
Carter looked around for his friend, Richie Frattone. They had gone to high school together. The last time Cater had seen him, he had been 17 and called John, not Carter. Richie had gone into Law school and was now one of New York City's finest lawyers.
"John Carter, is that you?" A voice said behind him, Carter whirled around.
"Wow, Richie, its good to see you!" The men hugged and shook hands.
"I got your voice mail you sent from the plane and I drove out here as soon as possible, so how's it been? Are you married, seeing someone? Engaged?" Richie asked as they left the airport.
"No, how about you?" Carter implied.
"Nope, still single" Richie said as they walked through the parking lot.
"You mean, Helen and you broke up?" Carter remembered Helen and Richard in high school, they were always together.
"Nah, we broke up 4 weeks after you left for med. school, like my car?" Richie replied. Carter stood there in amazement. It was a black jaguar.
"Wow."
"Yeah, got it the day I made the bar," Richie said as he helped Carter load his stuff in the car.
"So where you wanna go?" Richie said as he turned the engine on.
"Actually, I haven't slept in 3 days and had a fight with my student today, so can we go home? I'm exhausted." It was true, as excited as Carter was, he was finding it hard to keep his eyes open.
"John, you actually want to go home, man have you changed!" Richie laughed. Carter smiled remembering his old days in high school.
"Oh don't worry, I'll be up tomorrow," They drove off just as the sunset over the statue of liberty.
"Breanna, I know this sounds strange, but I bought this tape at the airport and ever since I was little I've always wanted to do this" she handed the tape to the cab driver.
"Can you put this on please?" Lucy won him over with her charming blue eyes.
"Sure thing, doll face," he slipped the tape in.
"What is it?" Breanna asked impatiently.
"Just listen," they were driving over the George Washington bridge when Frank Sinatra boomed over the cabs speakers. Lucy stuck her head out the window.
"New York, New York!" the music trailed on behind her where a jaguar picked up the song.
"Tourists," muttered Richie. Carter kept looking at the long blonde hair that flew threw the air.
"So, who's this med. student, is he a real pain in the ass?" Richie asked wondering why his friend had been upset about the fight they had earlier in Chicago.
Carter just smiled as an image of the flying Christmas gift came to mind. "You could say that."
"So how's the ER?" Lucy asked sitting on her bed. Breanna was still asleep, they had gotten in at around 2 am. Breanna would probably be having a hangover soon, fortunately Lucy rarely drank to excess, she wasn't really a party girl.
"Ughh, don't even remind me!" Abby spoke on the other line. Lucy liked Abby she seemed friendly and easy to talk too.
"What happened, anything too horrible to speak over the phone?" Lucy laughed, she glanced at her watch, 8:30, she planned to go running later on.
"It was like we were on the Springer Show. Pimps vs. Hoes, uh Lucy, I have to go, trauma coming in," Abby said rushing a bit.
"Sure, I gotta go too, see ya," Lucy put Breanna's cell phone back in its case. It was beautiful outside, and she decided she would venture outdoors. Lucy breathed in fresh air as she stretched her legs. A quick run through central park is all she needed to prepare her day.
Carter began to run, it felt good to run after sitting on the plane for so long yesterday. It was rare that he had the chance to go on a run since if he wasn't sleeping, he was at work. Richie had took him to a bar last night and it had brought back a lot of memories. Was Richie right? Had working in the ER for so long change him? 'No' he thought, he was still the same guy he was in high school. He was running around a corner when once again a flash of blonde hair caught his eye.
"Geeze" Carter muttered he, had thought he had seen Lucy 2 times before but he just shrugged it off thinking it was some major coincidence.
Lucy struggled to open the door with her grocery bag. There hotel had turned out to be even more dumpy then they had expected, for instance all you heard was guns, silencers, or some high pitch woman shrieking...
"Vinny, Ill do anything, just put the gun down!" When she got inside she noticed a small note on Breanna's bed.
Lucy, Went to check out National Ballet Theater, I'll be home by 4:00, ttfn, Breanna Lucy stretched out on the bed, it was so soft and warm, all she wanted to do was curl up and sleep in it. "Well, only for a few minutes," she said aloud.
"Lucy! Wake up!," A cheery face looked down on her, it was Breanna.
"What?" Lucy muttered feeling a bit disoriented, 'What time is it' she thought, she looked at her watch, 5:15.
"I met the most hottest guy today! And I got a date with him and he's got a friend and I got you hooked up too!" Breanna sputtered out. Normally, Lucy would have been sensible, and back away from the offer, but a little voice inside her was saying go along with it.
"Really, when?" Lucy asked.
"Who are you and what have you done with Lucy Knight!" Breanna was amazed Lucy was going along with this. Lucy rarely partied and when she did she always seemed to lecture people on how alcohol can harm your life.
"Well, were on vacation, we only have 6 days left and then I'm back at the ER and your back at ballet, might as well have some fun."
"This is so cool, there meeting us at some restaurant called The River Cafe. I checked out on it, its black-tie to the max!" Breanna began to frantically search through her bags.
"What's there names?" Lucy asked as she killed yet another cock-roach. She cringed at the place, the walls were a brownish green color and had multiple bullet holes in them.
"Richard Frattone, he's a lawyer, I can't remember the other guys name but I think he said his friend was a doctor, but get this, Richie drives a jaguar."
"Wow, maybe he can come and rescue us out of this dump."
"Lucy, I have just realized I have absolutely nothing to wear!" Breanna said looking through her bags.
"Well this is the shopping capitol of the world," Lucy smiled.
"You said it sister, were going shopping!" They headed out the door, waiting for what ever fate was serving them tonight.
"I cant believe you talked me into this," Carter began to pace back and forth.
"Relax, John, the girl I met said her friend was into medicine, so now you have something to talk about" Richie tried to calm his friend down but nothing worked. They stood outside The River Cafe, while the snow drifted down. Lucy and Breanna walked down on the other end of the block looking like Calvin Klein models.
"Weren't these dresses like the best finds ever" Lucy stated.
"I know! You never know what you can find in New York thrift shops." Breanna searched the area looking for Richie.
"I see Richie and I think his friend is standing behind that pole talking to that guy with the turban." Breanna said as they crossed the busy New York street.
"Great, I can't even see his head." Lucy giggled, inside she felt all nervous.
"Ladies, you look amazing," Richie reached out for Breanna's hand and kissed it.
"And you must be" He said looking for a name.
"Lucy, nice to meet you," she shook his hand and looked for her date.
"I'll just get my friend, he's really nervous," Richie turned around to grab Carter. Lucy put on her best smile, she hoped her date would be handsome and charming. The same things raced threw Carter's head hoping his date would be pretty and delightful. Carter stepped forward and instantly the two frowned.
"Carter! What the hell are you doing here?" Lucy yelled, she thought she had escaped from Carter and now here he was right in front of her.
"What the hell are you doing here?" How could this be, the main reason he had gone on vacation was to get away from Lucy.
"You guys know each other?" Breanna asked looking as confused as Richie.
"He's Carter, my stuck-up teacher!" Lucy snapped back.
"Yeah and this is my pain in the ass med. student," Carter explained to Richie, he had been a little hurt at Lucy's comment so he tried to hurt her back.
"Look I had no idea, this was going to happen, at all, and there's no point in wasting reservation here, I spent all afternoon just getting them because I knew it would be special," Richie implied.
"Aww, that's so sweet of you," Breanna reached for his hand and lightly kissed him.
"Special my ass," Lucy muttered walking into the place.
It was going to be a long, long night.
"I must say you 2 ladies look quite beautiful" Richie said staring into Breanna's eyes.
"Really, Id have to say you 2 gentleman, look rather handsome," Breanna gazed back at him, they nudged there seats a little closer.
"Well, Richard you look marvelous, in fact better then ever, except Id say lose the demented side-kick or is it some kind of pet?" Lucy sat with her arms folded tightly across her chest giving Carter an icy stare.
"Same advice Breanna," Carter added.
"You think your so great, don't you! And everything has to go your way and if it doesn't, you push what needs to be done aside!" Lucy proclaimed.
"Look who's talking, Miss, everything-I-do-must-be-awarded, your such a brown noser!"
"Lucy, don't spoil it for me and Richard," Breanna used a demanding tone in her voice.
"Maybe you should tell Carter that," Lucy continued her stare at Carter.
"See, Rich, now you see, why I'm so stressed all the time."
"Carter," Richie tried to calm his friend but the 2 of them kept there eyes locked. It was only broken when a dish crashed and a woman screamed.
"Oh my God! My husband, is there a doctor!" A woman stood over her husband as people began to crowd around.
"Great," Carter muttered sarcastically.
"Yeah, great." Lucy mimicked as they stood up.
"People, move give the man some air," Carter yelled as they ran to the man who was hunched on the ground and moaning.
"Are you 2 doctors, please save him, please!" The woman cried.
"Lucy! Start compressions!" Carter demanded. He looked over at the startled woman. "What happened?" He asked.
"He was eating a piece of steak when he started choking!" The woman replied. "Please! Please save him!"
"Carter there no rise in the chest and his pulse is weakening!" Lucy yelled.
"Do a finger sweep!" Carter yelled back. Lucy immediately stuck her finger in the man's mouth but found the piece of steak was lodged to deep.
"I'm not getting anything, do the heimlich!" Lucy said as she helped prop the man up against Carter.
"Okay, Lucy, tell me as soon as he coughs," Carter instructed. "Ready, one, two, THREE!" Instantly the man coughed when Carter pressed on his chest.
"He coughed! Do CPR!" She yelled, her face felt prickly as beads of sweat fell down her forehead. Carter immediately blew into the mans mouth giving him life saving oxygen. Lucy straddled the man and continued to do CPR until the paramedics came.
The crowd just moved on to see the man off when he was carted on an ambulance, the 4 stayed behind.
"Wow, you guys that was amazing, how do you know how to do that, and stay calm!" Breanna preached. They had been so precise and quick, she'd never seen anything like this before. Lucy picked herself up and sighed, this vacation was going down hill. Most of the time she felt ecstatic when she saved a life. But all she wanted to do was get away.
"Excuse me, I have to use the rest room," Lucy said blankly. She marched off towards the ladies room.
"I should go talk to her," Breanna smiled and ran off. She knew Lucy was upset but she really liked Richie and she didn't want to spoil it.
"Lucy, what's going on out there," Breanna searched the bathroom, she stopped when she heard a little cry coming from the stalls. "Hey, hun, what's up?" Breanna joined herself on the toilet and handed some toilet paper too her friend.
"I hate him so much and I thought I could get away from him and now here he is, ruining my vacation," Lucy sobbed.
"Um, this would be a bad time to tell you, Richie offered to take us to the opera tomorrow night"
"Breanna!" Lucy moaned.
"Well put it this way, are you going to let that loser doctor ruin your trip to the New York City, are you going to let his tacky insults annoy you?" Breanna asked moving a bit of hair out of Lucy's eyes.
"No, your right Brea, I'm not going to let Carter's insults hurt me anymore," Lucy began to realize that she wasn't going to let Carter ruin her vacation, if they were offering to take them to the opera, well, it would be a paid trip to the opera and she wouldn't even have to sit by Carter.
"Great!" Breanna sighed
"Why?"
"Because I really, really, really, really, like Richie," Breanna laughed, she quickly noticed her friends smile.
