Previously on ER Fanfiction: " Carter we need to talk." " Okay. What's up?" " Carter I......I think I love you." Carter's Reaction by: Amanda Carter is shocked! Anna loved him! He was sooo happy. " Anna, I..I don't know what to say! I love you too. I've loved you since day one!" " Carter that makes me feel much better! I hoped you loved me. Carol said you did!" They shared a passionate kiss. " Meet me at 7 O'clock here. I'll give you a ride home." Carter leaves the room.

Carter walks up to the front desk and checks the board. No patients. " CARTER!!'' He turned around to Weaver hobbling towards him. " What??!" " We need to talk. Come in Exam 1." They walked off together to the exam room. Carter knew what this had to be about." Carter, I want to appologize about the lady in 4." Carter was expecting the wrath of Weaver but an appology was not at the top of his list. Weaver noticed he looked stunned." What? You weren't expecting an appology?" " No! I was expecting to be chewed out!!" " Sorry! I tend to have that effect on people."

Carol walked into the lounge surprised to Anna sleeping again!" Anna! Get UP!" " Hello Carol." she said sounding more cheerful. " Wait a sec. You told him didn't you." " Yes." Anna got up and left the lounge.

Carter and Anna met in the lounge at 7. They headed to Carter's jeep. They drove to the mansion for dinner. It passed with no incident. Carter took Anna to her appartement. Anna invited him in. " Uh, I shouldn't. You don't know what might happen." '' Come on. It could be fun!" Carter walks in and takes off his jacket. He surveys the appartment. Oh how I would love to stay here tonight he thought. " Carter? Are you okay?" '' Yeah. I was just thinking." He sits down on the couch. Anna sits next to him. She leans on him as a movie came on tv. Carter looks to her just as he was about to speak. She fell asleep. Carter slowly drifts off. Two hours later, Anna woke up to find that she fell asleep on Carter's shoulder. She kisses his lips softly. He awakens. Their kisses become more passionate and quick. Anna opens his shirt and he opens hers. They fall together.

Anna lay on Carter's chest as he slept. She wondered what would happen next. She knew Carter was a colleague and that could create problems. And then she thought of Max." Oh my god! What have I done?!" she whispered. She knew she wasn't over him. She had to break up with John. John woke up and looked at Anna's worried expression." Anna, what's wrong?" Anna jumped out of her skin." John, we have to break up. This is about my past. There was a guy named Max. I'm sorry." John looked hurt." Well, okay. I'll wait for you to figure this out." Carter got up and left. Anna just cried.

Carter walked into work the next morning looking slightly upset. He checked the board and signed in on the computer. He noticed that Anna was working. He walked into the lounge.Anna was sitting on the couch looking miserable.She looked up and saw Carter." Carter, I'm sooo sorry!" " Anna it's o.k. You just needed some time. I accept that. I hope we can continue to be good friends." " Thanks Carter. You're so understanding." They left the room together.

Anna was sitting in the lounge when Carol walked in. She asked Anna what happened. " I broke it off with Carter. I wasn't ready. I couldn't date anyone yet." " How did he take it?" " Pretty well. He was very understanding." " You wanted it so bad though. What happened?" " Max. I'm not over him." Carol left the room leaving Anna with her grief.

Chase walked into the E.R. He walked up to the front desk. Randi looked up from her magazine. " How can I help you?" " I'm looking for John Carter. Do you know where I can find him?" " Um....he's in the chair area. Go down the hall and to your right." " Thank you." Chase followed the girl's directions. He spotted Carter talking to a hot young woman. Carter turned away for a moment and noticed Chase. " Chase? What are you doing here?'' " I'm here....to see you!" " Oh come on. You didn't come all the way down here to say hello!'' " Um, well you see I got bit by a spider." " Oh yeah. Looks like you had a reaction. Come on. I'll help you out." Carter brought him to Suture room. He got a kit and a pair of gloves. He fixed Chase up quickly. Chase followed Carter to the front desk. Carter started speaking to Anna but was cut off by Chase." Hey want to get some lunch?" " I can't I'm on duty." " Well blow it off." " I can't just blow it off! It's my job." " Okay." A woman and a man are brought in. They are yelling at each other. Carter takes the woman and Anna takes the man. The cop follows the woman.

Anna checks over the man and gets a chest x-ray. He is yelling to his wife who is in Trauma 1. Anna sighs. It was gonna be a long day.

" 1...2...3." Carter checks the woman over while the cop harasses him. The cops requests blood alcohol and a tox screen. The woman crashes and Carter pumps her stomach. He tells the cop to get a warrent. Anna questions his actions and he assures her he knows what he's doing. The cop returns with a warrent for blood alcohol and for a tox screen. The cop demands the woman's stomach contents from when she vomitted. Carter refuses to give it to him dumping the contents. He gets arrested for Obstuction of Justice. He is taken to jail. Anna bails him out that night. Carter runs out and kisses her. " I'm sorry Anna." He walks off. Anna just watches.

A pediatric position opens and Max Rocher arrives. He hooks up with Anna, and Carter's heart broke. Anna and him had a fight over Max. Carter walks into work one day and asks if Anna is working. Mark tells Carter that Anna was no longer working at the hospital. Carter looked upset for but a moment." I have to see some patients." " Carol, did you know Anna left and didn't tell Carter?" asked Mark. " No. She told me but I don't know why she didn't tell him."

Carter went home to his beat up appartment only to find it was on fire. " Damn! I can't believe what kind of day I am having!'' Carter's cell phone wrang." Hello!?" Carter said obviously ticked off. " Hi John!" " Anna?!" Carter's face tells it all! He is shocked, hurt and angry! " how could you? Where are you? With Max? " Whoa. Slow down. I'm in my car, in Phillidelphia. I can't bear to tell you why I left, but maybe I'll return someday. Max is not here. I never left to be with him. I left but I can't come back. Please don't hate me!!" " How could I? I loved you. I don't hate you but I don't forgive you." Carter hangs up the phone and hops back into his car. He goes to the newstand and buys a tribune. He looks it over thinking about how much money he has. He's got about two thousand dollars.He needed a miracle and a drink.

Anna looks at her phone in shock. Carter the nice caring guy had hung up on her. It's not that it was unthinkable but Carter?? He would never do that! " I wish I had told him. What have I done??"

Carter gets back into his jeep. He has to find somewhere to go. He thought hard. Doug and Carol might take him in for the night. No! He couldn't impose on them like that. His car phone rang."Hello!" " Hello John. How are you." " Hi Gamma. What's up." " Nothing. Are you coming to your grandfather's birthday party?" " Um.......No I can't. I'm working." "I'm sorry to hear that. Well goodnight." " Goodnight." He hung up the phone. He drove to a motel. He got a room. He walked in and sat on the bed wishing that Anna hadn't left. He really needed someone to talk to. That had been Anna's forte. That night, Carter cried himself to sleep.
