We Can't Save Everyone - Part Six

Anna comes back for good and Max finds out.



Max was starting to break a sweat. He was extremely angered. His gun was
aimed totally at Carter, and Anna was softly crying. " Max, don't."

"Don't what you little gnat! What do you intend on doing? Come with me
and I'll save your beloved
Carter."

"No! Max, I am not a possession!! You cannot control me!!"

"Then Carter dies. No skin off my back. I don't care about him. It's
your loss."

"No!! Please!" she began crying harder.

"Yes! Carter will be out of my hair! You will belong to me!"

"Max!! Calm down. There are people here who can help you." Carol
interjected.

"No they can't. The only thing I want is Anna," he snarled.

He cocked the gun towards Carter, who was still shocked.

"Leave him out of this!! Your beef is with me!!"

"All I want you to do is come with me."

"Then who will you kill? My family is gone because of you. If you loved
me you would not kill everyone I care about."

"Don't you see? I did it for you....for us."

"Max, you did nothing for me. I will not go."

"Goodbye Carter." He shot him in the chest. Carter fell to the ground.
They wanted to rush to his aid, but
Max ordered everyone to stay still.

Carter was slowly dying. Anna couldn't take it any longer. She ran to
his side and applied pressure to his chest.

"I'm sorry Anna. I hoped it wouldn't come down to this." Max raised the
gun again and shot Anna. She fell on top of Carter. Max then raised the
gun to his own temple, killing himself instantly. Everyone rushed over
to Carter and Anna. They saved both their lives.

Anna woke up later that day. But Carter was still unconscious. A week
later, Anna was released. She sat with Carter who had not woken up yet.
She lay her head upon his bedside and looked lovingly towards him. She
noticed he stirred. "Carter? Are you awake?"

He mumbled incoherently.

"Carter!!" She gave him a huge hug. Carter was a little confused.

"What happened to me??"

"Max shot you, then me, then himself."

"Are you okay??"

"Yes. I was released this morning. I've been in good hands with Kerry. I
refused to leave you though. I
just knew you were gonna wake up soon."

"How?"

"I just knew."

"Why are you here?"

Anna drew in a deep breath. This is the moment that she had to tell him.
"Carter, I still love you. I
realized that while I was away. That's why I came back. Please.....do
you still love me??"

"Yes!! Of course I do." Carter paused. "There's a question I needed to
ask you. Did they save Max?"

"As you know, we can't save everyone, John. He shot himself in the head.
He died instantly."

"Oh. I'm sorry Anna."

"Why? I no longer loved him.''

"No, but you still cared what happened to him. I can see it in your
eyes."

"I can't get anything past you can I?"

"Absolutely not!"

Anna held Carter's hand as he drifted off to sleep. She looked him over.
He would have a long recovery
ahead, courtesy of Max. She had very bitter feelings as she noticed how
pale Carter was. She decided
she had to help Carter through this. She just had to.

A note to those reading this: I noticed people put the last ep they saw at the beginning. For me it does not matter because Anna is no longer with the show. But if you really want to know, it was Middle of Nowhere.
