" Um.....I don't know if I want to know the sex. Okay. Why not?"

" Well, it's gonna be a boy and a girl."

" That's great Anna! Twins! I can't believe we're gonna have kids!"

" I know! I'm happy that you aren't angry."

" How could I be? You're having my children I see no reason to be angry. How far are you along?"

" Five months."

" Really? You don't look all that overweight."

" My OB says it's because I'm so thin. The weight should catch up to me next month."

" That's a shame."

" Why's that?"

" Cause you look really good the way you are."

" Thank you."

" You're welcome." He begins to stand. " Well I've got to get going."

" Yeah. Okay. See ya later!"

" Bye!"



When Anna got 'home', Carter was asleep since he had to be on in a few hours. Anna looked at him empathetically. She was on at the same time, but she had had all day to sleep. Carter was covering Maggie Doyle's shift. Anna looked at him in his sleep, wondering if they could ever be the same. She was afraid. Afraid of what might happen when the children were born. Carter was pretty unstable for the moment. Carter said he wanted to help with the children, but how much? How would this work out? She decided to worry later and to go have a shower.



Carter awoke from his sleep as soon as his alarm went off. He thought about what would happen. Could he propose to her? Not now of course, but in a few months? After the kids are born? What about names? He was realy shocked about the news. He was a litle annoyed she didn't tell him but he wasn't about to admit that to Anna. He was still shaken about what had transpired earlier that day. He couldn't dwell on it because he had to go to work. Maybe they could talk later.



Anna noticed that Carter had left. She looked at the clock. Sure enough, she was late! She ran out the door.



Work that shift was busy for both of them. A patient here, a patient there. They haven't even seen each other all shift. When Carter was ready to leave, Anna called out to him. He turned and saw her. He started to think again. When she reached him, he was so deep in thought, that when she tapped his shoulder, he jumped. " Anna!"

" Where did you just go?"

" What do you mean?"

" What were you thinking about?"

" Us."

" Really? What about us?"

" What would happen between us. How much I still love you. Hou much I missed you."

" How much do you love me John?"

" A lot."

" What does that mean. I'm worried when the kids are born, you won't be here anymore."

" I'll be there."

" How do I know that?"

" I was thinking earlier today too."

" What about?"

" Same thing."

" What have you concluded?"

" I want to marry you. And be with you. Forever."

" Oh, John........."

" If you don't feel the same, it's okay. I know this is all of a sudden, but I have given it a lot of thought. That's why you don't need to worry."

" John, I don't know what to say."

" Say yes. It doesn't have to be soon. I can wait."

" John..........."
