Because of John's hot night of passion, he was late for work. Lucky, for him Dr. Romano
wasn't there. "Hey Dr. Carter," said Dr. Greene, "Radiology finally got
their act together and got you cat scans done on 20 year old Samantha."
"Thank you." John had forgotten about them. He hoped the results were okay.
John found a light board and put the cat scans up there, but he was not happy with what he saw. There was a tumor on the frontal lobe of Samantha's brain. John sighed, "Dammit." He read on in her chart. The tumor was malignant. It was cancer. John ripped down the cat scans and stormed outside. He fought back tears. But he couldn't resist. Samantha was dying. He began to cry realizing he had bad news to tell her.
John sat in the doctor's lounge, holding the cat scans in his lap. He was waiting for Samantha to meet him there. He swallowed and fought back more tears as Samantha came in. "You wanted to talk John?" she asked.
"Yes." He said, "Sit down."
"What is it?" Samantha asked, now worried.
"We've found the reason why you've been having the headaches." John held up the cat scan to the light. "See this mass of tissue here?"
"Yes."
"It's a tumor."
Samantha was shocked. "Is it cancerous?" She wanted to cry.
John nodded yes. "You have brain cancer Samantha."
Samantha began to softly cry. John gave her a tissue. She began to wipe tears off her brown eyes. "Am I going to die?" She had to know the truth.
John's voice trembled. "We can get you started on chemotherapy now. But you only have a twenty percent chance of living. The tumor is not operable either. Samantha, you are dying." John broke down crying. He held Samantha in his arms.
"John, don't let me die. Please. Promise me you'll stay with me through this. I love you."
"I promise I will stay with you. I love you too." John held Samantha closer to him.
The two of them sat there, holding each other, crying. They did not see Dr. Romano walk by and look into the lounge.
