and Mean Goodbye' is used - It was also used for the title of this part.....ENJOY!
Previously in the Series: This is a synopsis of what's gone on in the entire series thus
far. Skip over this part if you're pretty sure what's going on..... Dave meets Ally, the
brand new ER nurse, and pursues her. Ally shies away until finally confiding that she was
raped, and doesn't want a relationship. After going out for coffee, Dave is attacked after
he drops Ally off at her house. Dave receives treatment, while Ally's home is broken into.
Ally moves in with Dave's sister, Katie, so she'll be safe, and Dave gets out of the
hospital. A month later, Dave's attacker (and Ally's rapist) is brought into the ER for
treatment, and is apprehended when they recognize him. Dave spent the night at Ally's,
sleeping in the other room, so she'd feel safe......
Dave woke up, not exactly sure where he was at first. He then realized where he was, and
got up. He made the bed and once he was done, he walked out to his car. Opening the trunk,
he pulled out his bag, which had been in there since he had gotten back from Philadelphia.
The bag had a spare change of clothes, and he walked back into the house, to change.
After that was done, he looked around a bit, finally sitting in the kitchen. He got a
glass of water and sat back down at the table. He would have started cooking something,
but he didn't want to poke around the kitchen. So he sat and thought, and waited.
Ally woke up feeling refreshed. Remembering Dave was there, she smiled. Still sitting in
bed, she remembered his sweet kiss the night before - she'd never been kissed with such
love before. Ally hurried up and got dressed and threw her hair up in some weird way. She
laughed at the way she looked and walked out to see Dave sitting in the kitchen.
"Oh, I hope you haven't been waiting for your maid to wake up and make you
breakfast..." Ally laughed as she opened the cupboard to find the skillet."Why
don't you put some coffee on? Let's hope its better then mine"
"I didn't know where anything was - and I didn't want to snoop around in your
kitchen. Coffee is my specialty...." He laughed, and walked over to the coffee pot,
"Now if I could only find the 'on' switch....There we go!" He looked back at
her. "Love the hair," he grinned madly "Say, what are you doing after work
tonight?" he asked while pouring the coffee.
Ally smiled "Hey my hair could be a new style" She grabbed some eggs out of the
fridge..."I don't think anything, I mean what the heck would I do? Besides come
home..." Ally laughed..
"Okay, how about after work, I take you out for dinner? A real dinner - not in some
tiny diner. To repay you for the eggs, of course." He asked
Ally smiled."A real dinner...hmm..." Ally pretended to be in deep thought
"David Malucci, are you asking me on a date?" she asked playfully...as she
flipped their eggs...
"It's not like we haven't been out before - Alyson Delgado. So what do you say?"
He said, putting her coffee mug next to her plate
Ally smiled as she put the first batch of eggs on Dave's plate..."That sounds really
nice Dave, I can actually get dressed up for this one"
"So, where do you want to go? What kind of food do you like?" He watched her as
she walked around the kitchen, and smiled.
Ally set her eggs on her plate and pulled out her chair."Come eat this gourmet
food" Ally laughed "I hate Italian, but I do Like Chinese..and I like some
seafood. Why don't we try that new Chinese place?" Ally put some salt on her eggs and
took a sip of coffee "Mmm coffee's good"
"Chinese sounds good. I'm sick of Italian too - my mother made that constantly when I
was growing up. Anything, and everything Italian." He said, taking a bite of
eggs,"Eggs are good," He took a sip of coffee "Coffee's good too - a genius
must have made it" he laughed "So I'll pick you up after our shifts are over -
and I have one last question for you.....When is your birthday? I realized that I never
asked."
"A Genius? That's my good old coffee pot" Ally laughed..."My shift is over
around six."
They finished breakfast, and went to prepare for work. Finally they were ready for work,
and they got into Dave's car. Ally completely took over the control of the radio - much to
Dave's dismay. He didn't care actually - she could play polka music, and he wouldn't care.
He just liked the fact that she was riding next to him. He pulled the car into the lot,
and they got out. As the walked and talked, Dave took Ally's hand. They walked into the
ER, hand in hand. Dave knew that everyone was watching them, but he didn't care. They had
to go there separate ways, to work.
"See you later" he said, and planted a kiss on her cheek.
He walked away, and began to visit patients. Finally, there were no patients to see, so
Dave walked down to the lounge, to take a break. It had been a couple hours since he had
gotten there, and he wanted to give his wrist a break. He opened the lounge door, to find
Ally there.
"You beat me to it.....I have no patients left so I'm taking a break" He sat
down on the couch. "How's your day been so far?"
Ally smiled. "Good, except for the comments I've gotten from Jerry all day long"
Dave turned his head looking interested "Well, he keeps saying, 'Why would you go for
Malucci when you can have me?'" Ally laughed. "Not that I mind all the
attention, but everyone seems to know that you like me now." Ally said closing her
locker and sitting down .
"Do I have competition?" He asked with a laugh. "Well, I guess I've given
them something to talk about now - I think they were getting low on gossip."
Ally laughed "So is that what Doctor's do all day? Gossip?" She smiled
"Gossip, save people's lives....Yep that's about it." He shook his head.
"I Suppose I should get back to work, if they find us both in here...sheesh that will
give them a whole lot to talk about..don't you think?"She smiled.
"Let them talk...." Dave said, and leaned over for another kiss.
"Alright Casanova...." Ally stopped him. "I have to pick up labs and go do
a rectal exam - Believe me, I'd rather stay here with you, but I need to be going.
"Fine - I'll see you later - I'll pick you up a little after seven." Dave said
as she left.
Ally left work at 6:30, she stayed over extra to help out with one of Haleh's patients.
She smiled, "What shall I wear?" She thought when she arrived home. Ally threw
dresses all over her bed and finally decided on a long black dress with a shimmery silver
lining that went over top. Ally put on some makeup and put her hair up with a few hair
pins. She Smiled, "Nurse turned to model in a mere half hour" She laughed out
loud. She quickly picked out some diamond earrings with a matching necklace as the
doorbell rang. Ally quickly checked everything and grabbed her purse and jacket. She took
a deep breath and opened the door.
"You're just on time...." She said smiling
Dave stood there on Ally's doorstep and rang the bell. After waiting for a little bit, the
door opened. Dave's mouth almost dropped open - but he managed to keep it shut, and let
out a smile instead.
"Wow," He said "You - I mean, You look great,"
Ally smiled at Dave's facial expressions. As they walked to the car she said, "This
is really sweet of you Dave." She said as he opened her door and closed it.
Dave got into the car and headed toward the restaurant. "Did you get any interesting
patients today?" he asked
"No, not really. Mostly just the colds and flu things." She said abruptly,
cutting off the conversation and looking out the window.
Dave looked over at her curiously when the light was red. What was wrong?
Tonight you're acting strange I find
And you've got something on your mind.
Something's wrong, I can see it,
See it in your eyes.
Dave pulled the car into the parking lot. He turned the key and removed it, and got out of
the car and walked to Ally's side. He opened the door, and they walked into the restaurant
"Wow, this place looks kind of expensive..." Ally looked around at the pretty
set up they had.
"Yeah, but it's nice in here," he said as they walked to a table
Ally smiled as they sat down "I am never going to be able to choose what to eat"
"We'll be here for hours," he laughed and said jokingly "Yes, waiter - I
think we need just a few more minutes to decide....But you said that three hours
ago!"
Ally laughed "Yeah really" She picked up the menu "Hmm...that looks
good...oh so does that..."
"I take it that you're not a picky eater, then"
"Not when it comes to Chinese food" Ally finally found something she liked
"I guess I will have the chicken chow mein"
The waiter came to take their orders, then walked away. He turned back to Ally "I
barely eat Chinese - it's a nice change."
"Yeah....So..." Ally said folding her hands and laying them on the table
"Actually, I did want to ask you something...." Dave started.
Ally smiled "Oh?"
"Well, you don't have to if you don't want to, but - Well, my sister, Jane - she's
getting married soon, and I was wondering if you wanted to come to the wedding with me?
You'd get to meet my family - well, the people you haven't met yet at least..."
"Oh..Dave...I..." Ally pressed her lips together
"What is it?"
"Well, it's not that I don't want to...But me? Go to your sisters wedding?...I am not
even part of the family...or anything..."Ally sipped some of her ice tea
"You'd be my guest - and I can bring a guest......It even says that on the
invitation! But if you really don't want to....It's okay. Katie and her boyfriend will be
there too, so I won't be the only one that you know...." He tried to persuade her.
Ally smiled, "Well if you can't find another guest to bring...I suppose I could be
your guest"
He smiled "Then I guess you'll get to meet everyone....We really are a strange crowd,
though! I can give you the details on everyone, though"
"I am going to be so nervous - What if they don't like me? Of course they don't ever
have to see me again if they don't want too" Ally laughed "Where's the wedding
at?"
"It's about two hours away - in a church, then some reception hall. They'll love you.
The only one you have to watch for is Irene..."
"Oh that's comforting...What about Irene?" Ally raised her eyebrows
"She's probably the most judgmental of my sisters.....You'll be fine though - just
act like you usually do - and you'll be fine."
Ally smiled "I am sure I'll make it. Let's just hope no one offends me too bad. I'd
hate to blow my temper in front of your family" Ally laughed
"Just don't do it in front of Irene - that girl's got a temper worse than anything!
She's very tough.."
Ally smiled as she took another bite of her dinner..."Well, Thanks for the invite,
I'd be glad to accompany you." She said a little too sincerely - almost as if she
didn't really mean it.
Don't say goodnight and mean goodbye.
It may just be all in my mind,
But tonight doesn't seem like other times
Then you were laughing
But now I hear you sighing
Don't say goodnight and mean goodbye.
Ally and Dave got into he car, leaving the restaurant. They arrived at Ally's
apartment.
"Your sister will be coming back tomorrow, I think" Ally said throwing the keys
on the counter.
"Yeah she is." Dave said, standing next to her.
Ally smiled "Well, thanks Dave, I had a lovely time..." Ally leaned against the
door frame, wondering what to say - And thinking of a way she could tell him......
"Well, I suppose I should go," Dave walked over to the door, and he kissed her.
"Goodnight Ally."
Ally smiled a nervous smile "Good night." She said, looking at him as he walked
to his car.
I couldn't stand for us to part
Because I love you much, much too much.
So don't let this kiss be our last kiss
Let there be other nights of holding you like this
Please don't walk away,
With that look in your eyes.
She finally closed the door, and leaned against it, sighing, "Oh, Ally why didn't you
tell him?" she asked herself.
Ally had taken a job in Paris, and she would be leaving tomorrow. She was suppose to tell
Dave tonight but she just couldn't. She didn't want Dave to fall in love with her...she
knew she'd only hurt him in the end. So going to Paris would be good, because she wouldn't
have to face him everyday. Ally sighed - She would have to tell Dave at work tomorrow, but
she didn't know if she could. How could she tell Dave that she was leaving him?
Don't say goodnight and mean goodbye
Don't say goodnight and mean goodbye
Don't say goodnight and mean goodbye.
