Camp Panther Lake, also known by locals as Spirit Lake or "Ghost Lake" (literally located just off "Shades of Death Road"), was built in 1929 in a remote section of forest near the historic Appalachian Trail and quickly became popular with campers. In the summer of 1971, the location earned an infamous reputation after three teenage counselors disappeared and their bodies were gruesomely unearthed from shallow graves. An investigation turned up cult activity in the area, but no suspects were apprehended. For the next several years, bodies continued to turn up in the forest, sometimes mutilated or severely sexually abused. In 1976, the camp locked its doors due to a steep decline in business and a rise in local cult activity. It is believed by many cults, mostly satanic, that this camp was built on sacred demonic ground. Bodies have continued to turn up over the years. Five have been discovered on the campgrounds and nine people remain missing. Locals believe those still missing are lying at the bottom of the lake, but authorities have found any evidence to support this theory. Brave campers and hunters who have ventured out into these woods have heard strange noises, such as crying and whimpering. MTV says that the location is the real Camp Spirit Lake, this place isn't even off the shades of death road, and the road doesn't even lead to a camp. I feel this episode was created just for the ratings, because the stories that they made up were really scary, but at the same time, fake.
