DOUBLETAKE: SIBLING RIVALRY
Oh, Brother! On Daytime, Is There Such A Thing As Fraternal Harmony?
Soap Opera Digest
April 25, 1995

Lujack Luvonaczek and Nick Spaulding, GL

Backstory: About 30 years ago, Alexandra Spaulding gave birth to twin sons. Their father, Eric Luvonaczek, was strapped for cash, so he gave one of the boys to a childless couple, Kip and Mary McHenry. Eric led Alex to believe she' d only given birth to one baby. She named that child Brandon, but he preferred to be called Lujack; he died in 1985. In 1991, Nick arrived in Springfield. Eventually, Alex (with confirmation from Eric) determined that he was her son and Lujack's twin.

Seeing Double: It seems identical twins Nick and Lujack even had the same grooming habits -- longish hair and a perpetual 5 o'clock shadow. Other things they shared: a short temper, a love of blondes and the irritating habit of tossing their keys into the air.

Key Differences: Streetwise Lujack was an edgy, tortured soul with artistic leanings; he fronted both a gang and a band. Nick expresses his creativity as a journalist and is much more refined. You get the feeling he wouldn't want to change a flat tire and get grease on his silk shirt. Lujack is Budweiser, the Rolling Stones and Levi's; Nick is white zinfandel, Andrew Lloyd Webber and Banana Republic khakis. #
