PLACES TO GO IN (AND OUT) OF SPRINGFIELD

THE BAUER HOME
As the heart of Guiding Light, the Bauer family home is a comfortable, upper-middle class residence where everyone in Springfield feels welcomed. Every Fourth of July, the Bauer Home is the place to be for the Annual Bauer Barbeque. Ed and Rick pull out the secret recipe for Bauer Burgers and grill from sun-up to sun-down.

THE BEACH
Confused about her feelings toward Phillip and Lujack, Beth took off for the beach with buddy Tanya Peterson. Confusion gave way to conviction at this “almost paradise” spot when Lujack arrived on his motorcycle. The couple declared their love (and filmed a gorgeous montage) before returning to Springfield to break the news to a devastated Phillip.

THE BOARDING HOUSE
Desperate to escape Bradley Raines, Beth went to her English professor, Annabelle Sims, for help. Annabelle got Beth a room in the boarding house of her soon-to-be mother-in-law, Bea Reardon. Becoming close friends with the Reardons during this difficult time, Phillip and Beth decided to rent a room from them after their wedding. When the wedding never happened, Beth moved in by herself ... and ended up living next door to future love Lujack.

CEDARS HOSPITAL
Site of Rick’s many malpractice suits. Seriously, Cedars Hospital is the heart of the community, since it is practically run by the Bauer family and practically financed by the Spauldings. Phillip, Rick and Lujack were all orderlies there as teens. Mindy was a candy striper. The other three Musketeers met Beth here. Their children were born here (mostly). Their unborn children have died here. Darcy held Beth and Alexandra hostage here. Heck, Rick’s even gotten married here —- TWICE! And we can’t forget the time Phillip and Rick stole a body, sending them and Beth off to community service.

COMPANY
Originally owned and operated by Tony Reardon, Company is THE place to eat and hang out in Springfield. And apparently the place for the younger set to be employed as well: Beth, Lujack, and Mindy all made their wages there at one point or another. Its convenient location (across the street from Cedars Hospital) ensures that it’s STILL a place to gather. Company is now owned by Buzz Cooper, Phillip’s former father-in-law.

THE COUNTRY CLUB
The hot spot for Springfield’s elite, many sordid and happy events have occurred at the Country Club throughout the years, from grand masked balls (introducing -- and re-introducing -- various Spaulding family members) to weddings (Billy and Vanessa) to company takeovers to homecoming parties to (supposed) funerals. Phillip, an employee at the stables, met Mindy Lewis here and later confronted Alan and Justin in the ballroom about his parentage. Beth worked as a server. Lujack parked cars. Spaulding celebrated 100 years —- and Alan’s ouster at Phillip’s hands took place here. A very-much-alive Beth was properly welcomed back to Springfield society in 1990. In summary, the Country Club set usually means that Phillip is going to end up sitting on the floor of the ballroom, probably in tears, probably drunk, and most definitely in the midst of an interesting storyline.

THE GALAHAD GARAGE
Home and meeting place for Lujack’s adopted street “family.” Once the gang split up, Lujack and Floyd bought property to open up their new club. Unfortunately, the club never opened, because of the explosion (set by Phillip's hired henchman Andy Ferris), which destroyed the building and temporarily blinded Beth.

LAUREL FALLS
The place where Springfield’s teen crowd gets romantic. The Four Musketeers frequented the falls during their teen years (having a disastrous camping trip) and later, when Beth was pregnant with Lizzie. Laurel Falls was also especially important to Beth and Lujack, for it marks the spot where they shared their first kiss.

NEW YORK CITY
Site of the Four Musketeers’ most infamous adventure. Phillip and Beth fled to New York to escape Bradley Raines. While there, they befriended a sidewalk Santa named Nick who helped them find a place to live and employment. Rick decided to search for his friends and left for the Big Apple on Christmas Eve—only to discover that Mindy had stowed away in the backseat of his car. The two found jobs at a restaurant called the Circus Underground for the duration of their stay. Places of interest in New York include the Delacorte Theater and Belvedere Castle (pictured) -- both in Central Park. Later in 1984, Phillip and Beth found themselves back in the city for an appointment with an eye doctor for Beth’s blindness. They were followed by Lujack and India, who blackmailed Phillip into announcing their engagement.

THE SPAULDING MANSION
Home to Springfield’s wealthiest and most dysfunctional family, the Spaulding Mansion is more museum than livable home. Whoever lives here holds the power in the family, whether it be Alan or Alexandra. In the mid-1990s, the mansion actually left Spaulding hands and was occupied by Jenna Bradshaw, whose father had been wronged by the Spauldings years before. Alan took back control under an assumed identity, however, after he was released from prison. Important events that occurred in the mansion include: Andy Ferris’ Valentine’s Day murder in 1985 and Phillip and Beth’s wedding in 1991.

SPRINGFIELD UNIVERSITY
A hub of activity for our characters, whether they are dueling on videogames in the Student Union, arguing about the writings of F. Scott Fitzgerald, or throwing chairs through the windows of their classrooms. We know they went to Springfield U ... but did anyone actually graduate???

THE STABLES
Adjacent to The Country Club, the Stables have always been the secret, “special” place for Phillip and Beth, and a place of great drama. It was here that Mindy Lewis staged an “accident” with a horse during Quint and Nola’s antebellum engagement party. Her subsequent hospitalization introduced her, Rick, and Phillip to roommate Beth Raines. During Mindy’s extravagant 18th birthday bash at the Club, Phillip and Beth escaped to the stables to declare their love for one another. Too bad an infuriated Bradley Raines overheard and, in a jealous fit, told Phillip the truth about his parentage. This revelation led the young man to actually move out of the Spaulding Mansion and into the stables, which became a haven for Beth when Bradley demanded that she not do her artwork at home. Throughout the years, the stables continued to be a touchstone point for Phillip, whether he came there to reflect before taking over Spaulding Enterprises from Alan, or to relive his romance with Beth when she was presumed dead. It also marked the spot where an amnesiac/aphasiac Beth came across an astonished Bradley Raines -— and smacked him on his head with a shovel. And on a much happier note, it was here that Phillip proposed to Beth ... and she finally said yes!
