Notes: A £1.2million signing from Besiktas of Turkey, Johnsen quickly adapted to the pace of the Premiership, and proved a huge success during his first year in England. Alongside the towering Jaap Stam, Johnsen has helped form a formidable partnership in the heart of the United back-four. A classy, composed member of United's treble-winning 98-99 campaign and, having signed a five-year contract in December '97, looks destined to be part of Sir Alex Ferguson's blueprint for the future. A knee injury effectively ended his 1999/2000 campaign but Johnsen came through successfully to return to the first-team fold for the start of 2000/2001.
