Notes: Quinton Fortune joined United in August '99 from Atletico Madrid for £1.5million. Fortune was the youngest player to be capped by South Africa but was ignored for 18 months after he won his first two caps in 1996. Terry Venables brought Fortune to Tottenham in the mid-90's but the talented left-sided midfielder returned to Spain. After a sustained spell on the sidelines during 1999/2000, Fortune was quick to make an impression at the start of 2000/2001. Represented South Africa in the Olympics 2000, Australia.
