Notes: Extremely quick and skilful United left-winger who needs no introduction to football fans worldwide. Giggs is essentially another 'local lad' - born in Wales but brought up in nearby Salford. He was actually on the books of rivals Manchester City as a youngster, however when United came in for him he had no hesitation in signing for the club he supported as a boy. Giggs burst into the United side as a talented 17-year old, and had to constantly withstand the pressure of being labelled the 'new' George Best. Giggs is a brilliant player in his own right, and played some superb football in the 96-97 season. Despite a foot injury, sustained against Liverpool during the 98-99 campaign, which sidelined him for a considerable period, the Welsh-wizard returned to contribute to United's treble-winning campaign.
