Dwight Yorke

Position: Forward

Squad Number: 19

Born: Canaan, Tobago 03 Nov 1971

Height: 5 foot 09

Previous Clubs: Signal Hill, Aston Villa, Manchester United

Current Club: Blackburn Rovers

Notes: Signed by United in August '98 for a club record £12.6million, Yorke was valued by Aston Villa at £16m but was allowed to leave at a reduced price after outlining his wishes to play in the European Champions' League. He soon won over the Old Trafford faithful with crucial goals at crucial stages of United's treble-winning campaign, plus many other moments of scintillating play. Signed a five-year deal when he arrived at Old Trafford, quickly drawing comparisons with Mark Hughes for his ability to hold the ball up front with the added dimensions of pace and an almost telepathic understanding with Andy Cole. Yorke finished the 1998-99 campaign with 29 goals in all competitions (eight in Europe) and is destined to spearhead the club's strikeforce beyond the Millennium. York was sold to Blackburn for a cut price £2 million in July 2002 because he was in the last year of his contract. At Blackburn he will be reunited with his old United strike partner Andrew Cole this could be bed news for premiership defences. Remember what happened in 1998/1999.
