Mary Hanes co-developed PAX -TV's series "Hope Island" along with Jason Milligan where she served as Executive Producer.
Currently, Mary is writing and producing the WB mid-season replacement series, "Dead Last," which will premiere in January 2001. Mary lives in Los Angeles with her husband, writer/actor, Ken Hanes. Ken played the role of Mike Guthrie on the CBS soap, "The Bold and The Beautiful" for six years, and wrote several episodes of "Hope Island" (and played the role of Kenny, the mentally challenged man that Reverend Cooper endeavors to help).
Mary Hanes has had many plays, one-acts and comedy shows produced around the country. Her sketch comedy, "The New Rotics," won Best Comedy of the Year from the Los Angeles Weekly. Her first full-length play, "The Crimson Thread," was produced for National Public Radio and starred Marsha Mason, JoBeth Williams and Megan Gallagher. "The Crimson Thread" received its first regional production at Seven Angels Theater in Waterbury, Connecticut, and made its West Coast premiere at the Pasadena Playhouse. Both productions were directed by Dan Lauria and starred Kathleen Noone, Shanna Reed and Stephanie Zimbalist. In October 1996, "The Crimson Thread" was the inaugural production on the new arena stage at A Contemporary Theatre in Seattle,Washington. "The Crimson Thread" has been published by Samuel French. Her play, "Doin' Time at the Alamo," has won two national playwriting awards: the New Voice in American Theatre Award from the William Inge Festival and the Mildred & Albert Panowski Playwriting Award. The play was purchased by Hallmark and has been published by Samuel French.
