Mary Hanes and Jason Milligan back in January 2000 wrote, "The composer on our series is Tim McCauley, whom we met about a year ago on our first trip to Vancouver. We sat down with him and talked about the spirit of the show. He had already read several episodes and felt he had such a grasp on the essence of HOPE ISLAND that he handed over a CD with a demo song on it - something he had "thrown together the night before," as he was so moved from reading the episodes. We didn't get an opportunity to listen to it until we got back to L.A. One of the first things we did when we got back to our office was slip the CD into our computer and listen. We were blown away by this beautiful song that is now the theme of HOPE ISLAND. It was obvious that Tim was the perfect person to write the music for this show, and so we brought him on board. Not only is Tim an amazing composer, he is a genuinely wonderful person with a great sense of humor and huge heart. His enthusiasm for the show is evident in every episode. And the theme song never ceases to thrill us every time we hear it."
