I Miss You
Its been close to 10 years now, since I was brought here” Jean wrote in her journal. “I
miss my family, I love my life here, and my.....Gifts. But I love my family. I just wish
everything could just go back to normal"
"Jean, Breakfast” Kitty called knocking on Jean's door, breaking her out oh her trance.
"K” she called back “I’ll be there in a sec."
Like any other day at the Xavier School for the Gifted, Things basically started out the
same,6:00am wake up call, maybe half an hour in training , a shower a change, breakfast,
and then off the school, and if they had a few minutes to themselves in between all of the
early morning schedule, they use it for time for themselves, to do whatever they wanted
because THAT was rare around that house.
******
"Jean, you ok?” Scott asked with concern for his best friend as they walked into Bayville
High.
"You were awfully quiet this morning at breakfast.” “I’m ok Scott, I guess I'm just a little
tired, that’s all".
"What's wrong with Jean?” Kitty asked as she caught up with the Scott. Realizing what
today's date was Scott said in a depressing tone. “Today’s the day that her parents
dropped her of at the institute
"Jean's family hasn't seen her in awhile now” Scott explained to his friend, Kitty.
"Her and her family were so close, until...."."Until?” Kitty asked before realizing what he
meant.
"Yeah. They dropped her off at the institute, and that was it. They called and wrote her a
few times, but after awhile....It all just stopped. And she took it really hard” “Yeah” Kitty
said sounding unusually sad, “I mean is hard for all of us, But you and Evan, you still call
your parents and they call you. Evan has his Aunt, and he I have my brother. Kurt and
Rogue are on their own. I know they don't like it, but they can't miss a family they never
had. Jean was really the only one who had the perfect life.” “That’s Horrible” Kitty said
in outrage. “Yeah” Scott said agreeing. Every time around this year she gets like this,
really sad and there is nothing any of us can do about it."
"Why, can’t they? I mean we. Why can't we?” “Ok like what if we went and talked to
Jean's family. You know let then know how sad she is and how much she misses them
and needs them? I mean its not like she has alot to lose if there not talking to her now ,
the worse that could happen is that they would call, right?” Kitty said convincing Scott,
“Yeah.. but" Scott said unsure of they idea “But what if Jean...","We don't tell her. If she
doesn't then it can't hurt it” ‘She’ll know",
"Come on Scott, its the least we could do, I mean you said it yourself, they were the
perfect family, they’re probably just scared and confused about her powers, if we go to
her home and explain to them about it, and tell her how well she can control them, and
how well developed they are. It might ease there worries about it.” “You have a point. Ok
but if were gonna do this we gotta do it now, we gotta leave right now. The prof. may not
like us cutting class but he'll understand, right?” “Right !" "Ok then. I’ll tell Evan and
Kurt to grab are homework, and not to tell anyone were gone.” “You mean Jean right?”
“Yeah, right ok come on!"
"Hey Guys wrong way!" Evan Yelled to them as they were heading towards the door.
"Sorry man, no school for us today !", Vats up?” Kurt called out to them in all the
confusion.
"We just gotta go do some stuff!" Kitty called, “Pick up our home work!, C-ya!"
Vhat was dat about?” Kurt asked the Evan, hoping he picked up something. “OH!” Scott
called back through the door, “Don’t tell Jean!".
"I dunno what that was about man, but if he doesn't want Jean to know, I don't wanna
know." Evan said to Kurt., “Dah. Me either."
******
The drive there took pretty much all day. School would be just getting out as they arrived
"Wow, so this is where Jean grew up?” Kitty said as they pulled up to the curb. “Yeah,
pretty nice. Huh?” Scott said agreeing.
Jean's home was a classic two story home, set in the suburbs, surrounded with a white
picket fence and rose bushes. Very classical.
"So what are we waiting for?” Kitty asked anxious to ring the bell, “Nothing” Scott said
as the still sat in the car, a little unsure of going in. “Let’s go."
Half way up the walk way they were greeted from a voice along side the house, “Hello,
can I help you?” “Ah, yes” Scott answered “Mrs. Grey?” “Oh no sorry son, the voice
answered, “She wont be back for a few hours yet. I’m Minnie, the house keeper, can I
help you with anything?” “No thank you Mame, will come back" Scott said as he and
Kitty turned and walked back down the way.
"So, like now what do we do?” she asked as they drove out here for nothing “Well I guess
we head towards town and hang out around there till they come back. I remember Jean
telling my about this place where her and her sister used to hang out, I guess if we can
find it we can go and check that out?” “Ok cool, Better then waiting around here, ya
know."
"Wow this town is like Classic” Kitty said admiring the scenery as the drove around there
were perfect home with perfect gardens. All surrounded by fences everywhere. It was
clean, safe. It seem perfect. “Yeah, it is nice" Scott said agreeing with her.
"Hey, is that the diner?!” “Yeah it is” Scott said as they both peered inside seeing nothing
but teenagers, outside and in, "So, you feel like a burger and a shake?” Scott said as he
smiled over at Kitty after he parked his car, Kitty just smiled back.
"You know, this place kinda reminds me of the cafeteria at school” Kitty said as the
entered the building, “Yeah, it’s weirding me out to” Scott said as he spied an empty
booth “C’mon, There’s a table"
They were seated for about 10 minutes, before a green eyed red haired waitress, about
kitty's aged came up to them.
"Well, I don't think I see you around here before” She said as she flirted with Scott kind
ignoring the fact that Kitty was there. “Yeah, we’re just passing through” Scott answered
back, noticing a resemblance “Oh really?” she said with her back completely turned to
Kitty now “Where ya from?” she said as she smiled at him, “Bayville.” “Oh really?” she
replied as her face lit up, “I know where that is.” “Ummm, excuse me?” Kitty said
breaking up the moment that she was having with one of her best friend’s, best friend. ‘I
think we're gonna order now” “Ok miss” she said with a bit of an attitude, “What’ll it
be?” “We’re just gonna have 2 vanilla shakes, preferably mine with out spit, ok?” That
extra add on kinda made Scott laugh under his breath. “Ok then” she said as she turned
and winked as Scott as she walked away, “Coming right up."
"Does she remind you of someone?” Scott asked, “Yeah she reminds me of something”
Kitty said with one of her giggles, “No, I mean does she actually remind you of someone
we know” Even though Kitty couldn't see Scott's eyes she knew he was giving her a look.
“Yeah kinda” she said after she thought about it, “Do you think maybe she could be....","I
dunno” Scott said interrupting her, “I only seen as few pictures and they were kinda old,
but ..maybe” and with that the waitress came back, “Ok, so we have 2 vanilla shakes,
with no spit right?” “Right," Kitty said, as she casually shoved the milkshake aside. “Ok,
then if you need me for anything, you just give me a shout...shades” acknowledging Scott
“Ok, Thank you” Kitty answered back.
"Ok, just incase this theory here works out. Just because her sister is my best friend
doesn't mean I have to like her. Does it? Because if it does, we’re gonna have a problem
here” Scott just laughed, as he looked towards the counter to see her staring back “Well
at least they share some common things, huh Shades" "What do you mean?” Scott asked.
Kitty just giggled, “So are you gonna drink you shake or not” Scott said, with his smile
set to high.
It was about an hour after the red headed waitress left, but nor before slipping Scott her
number as they paid their bill, they headed back to the car and started to head for the
house.
This time someone was home. As they walked back up the walk way, they made it to the
door this time to ring the bell.
"Ding-dong” “Just a minute!” a voice yelled from behind the door. “Yes?" Minnie the
housekeeper asked as she peered out the door, “Oh, yes its you, your back” she said in a
cheery voice, “Please come in".
"Nice” Kitty said as the gazed around the entrance hall, as the heard a familiar voice
coming from around the hall, asking who was at the door.
"Oh hey!” the voiced called. Now it had a face. It was the waitress, “What are you
tracking me down now shades?” ‘Suspicions confirmed” Kitty said as the young waitress
looked at her.
"Excuse me?” “Yes, can I help you?” another voice said as she walked into the room.
"Mrs. Grey” Scott asked in his serious voice “Yes do I know you?” she asked sounding as
confused as ever. While the young waitress just stood there with a confused look on her
face as well.
Umm, I don't know if you remember me or not, but my name is Scott Summers. And I
was there the day you brought your daughter, Jean to us.” Kitty now silenced with the
young waitress.
"Please come in” Mrs. Grey said with concern. “Sarah, will you please go get your
father.” “Ok mom” now the waitress had a name.
"This is Kitty Pryde, she also attends school with us” Scott told her being polite “Hi”
Kitty said with a smile trying to be nice. “So how is my daughter doing?” Mrs. Grey
asked, as her husband and younger daughter entered the room, “Jean’s doing just fine”
Scott answered. “Now what’s this about” Mr. Grey asked interrupting him. “It’s about
Jean, sir.” The tension in the room was getting thicker and thicker every time someone
stopped speaking or didn't speak at all.
"Mr. and Mrs. Grey, I’ll just get to the point. Jean misses you. She needs you back in her
life, it’s been extremely hard for her all these years without. “I’m sorry to interrupt you
there son, but I afraid I’m going to have to ask you to leave” Mr. Grey said as he started
to get up from his seat to show the two unwelcome guests from his home, “look sir”
Scott spoke up starting to get a little upset himself. "kicking me out of your home isn't
going to make the fact that your daughter needs you, and ignoring her is only making it
worse for her, today is 7 years that you left her at the institute. If you will just listen!”
“Please leave my home!” the tone is Mr. Grey’s voice had gotten stronger, “C’mon Scott"
Kitty said placing her hand of his sholder, to help calm him. “Let’s go"
and with that they turned toward the door, but not before Scott got the chance to say,
“Not knowing her is your loss.....and our gain."
By the time the kids got back on the road for home it was after dark. Neither of them
talking for the longest time before Kitty finally spoke up, “You think the Prof. will be
mad?” “Maybe. No probably not” Scott said with a suttle tone, “Oh ok, good...Do you
think Jean will be mad."
"I hope not.” and that was the only conversation spoken until they got to the Mansion.
