Walk on the Wild Side
Greg Johnson, story editor of X-Men: Evolution, told The Continuum that "Walk On The Wild Side" is his favorite episode of the series so far.
The episode focuses on the female cast members of the show and is part of two episodes of X-Men: Evolution on Kids' WB! on Saturday. It airs at 11 a.m. (ET) and is followed at 11:30 by a repeat of "Mindbender."
"The idea of an episode featuring some of the girls actually originated with Donna Friedman at Kids' WB!," Johnson told The Continuum. "We had just been given an extra four episodes to do for the season, and were trying to come up with a couple of standalone stories. From that meeting, ideas started percolating for 'Walk On The Wild Side,' as well as 'Operation: Rebirth.'"
The episode features by far the most screen time thus far for Magma.
"I like how unsure Magma is," Johnson said. "She's new to all this, trying to learn how to control her powers, having trouble, getting frustrated. Including her with the more confident girls gave some dimension to the group, and a focal point to the story. We'll definitely be seeing more of her."
The story sees five of the young mutants - Magma, Boom-Boom, Jean Grey, Rogue and Shadowcat - forming a group that the media dubs the Bayville Sirens. Above are the costumes they wear as the Sirens.
Music plays a major role in the episode, with a bouncy interlude.
Johnson said there might be another all-girls episode next season.
"We're tossing around a story idea, but nothing concrete," he said. "It has to be a new take or I don't see the point."
