Chapter 1:
We've come so far
To leave it all behind
I wonder why
Why did you go away
You left me all alone
No words can say
My love please stay
You and I
We have moments left to share
You and I
We can make it anywhere
You and I
We belong in each other arms
There can be no other love
Now I know we can have it all …
Forever
Each night I pray
That we can be together
Once again
Forever more we'll stay
In love this way
No matter what they say
Until the end
You and I
We have moments left to share
You and I
We can make it anywhere
You and I
We belong in each other arms
There can be no other love
Now I know we can have it all …
Forever

The room was dark and the only thing that kept it glowing was the light
on
the green Christmas tree. Soft Christmas music filled the air. The room
was
adorned with red, green, and white Christmas decorations. The tree was
the
most spectacular one. Behind the tree was the view of the city of Los
Angeles.
It was the day before Christmas and everyone was rushing doing their
last
minute shopping. Everyone except two. Abbie lay in her mother’s arms as
she
looked up at the tree and all the presents underneath it. A small smile
crept up on her face as she saw the present she wrapped all by herself.
It
was a special present for her father. She couldn’t wait till he opened
it.
“Mommy?” She asked as she looked up at her mother.
“Yeah, sweetie?”
Abbie positioned herself so that she was no longer laying in her arms
but
sitting on her lap. “When is Daddy coming? I thought he said he’d be
here
on the eighteenth. Tomorrow’s Christmas, Mommy. Why isn’t he here yet?”
“Oh, darling.” Sheridan said as she brushed a golden curl from her
daughter’s face. “Your Daddy said he’d be here before Christmas. It’s
not
Christmas yet. So don’t lose hope yet. Daddy promised you. He’s
probably
not done with that case he was working on.”
“I just miss him so much Mommy.” Abbie said as she wrapped her arms
around
her mother’s neck.
“I know sweetie, I do, too.” She said hugging her back and playing with
her
hair.
“Mommy?” Abbie said looking at her mother’s sparkling, blue eyes.
“Hmm?”
“Are you and Daddy gonna get married? I mean, Daddy says he wants to.”
Sheridan smiled at the innocence of her daughter. She knew a lot. She
could
always pick up on things that go on around her. “Darling, I would love
nothing more than to marry your Daddy. He just hasn’t asked yet.”
“Why hasn’t he ask you yet? I know he loves you.”
“I know he loves me too. I don’t know, maybe he’s just waiting,” she
didn’t
really know the reason. She just thought it was too soon. They just got
back together the summer before. “Or maybe he just doesn’t want to.”
“Mommy, Daddy loves you with all his heart. Maybe he’s just scared.
‘Cause
the last time you said ‘no’ to him.”
How did her daughter get so smart? How did she know things? “Darling,
let’s
not talk about this now, huh?” She said as she pulled her daughter into
a
hug. Luis, where are you? she thought.

>>Flashback<<
“Mommy! Daddy wants to talk to you!” Sheridan heard from the kitchen.
She
was cooking dinner for her and Abbie.
“I’m coming!” She said as she wiped her hands with the towel that was
on
the counter and walked to the living room.
When she walked in, she saw that her daughter was laughing. Her father
was
obviously telling her something funny.
“Daddy, you’re crazy! Uncle Miguel isn’t Santa Clause!.....Nah-uhh!!!”
Sheridan heard her daughter say. She laughed a little more before
handing
her the phone. “Mommy, here’s Daddy. Talk to him, he’s crazy!” She said
before she walked into the kitchen.
Sheridan just shook her head and smiled. “Hello?”
“Hey there, sexy!” She heard him say. She missed his voice and couldn’t
help but smile.
“Oooh, naughty boy. Don’t you know I have a boyfriend? And he’s the
jealous
type. Better watch it, he’s a cop.” Sheridan began to flirt.
“A cop, huh?”
“Yep, a detective to be more specific.” She told him as she got
comfortable
on the couch.
“So, what would he do if I came over?”
“I don’t know, maybe you should ask him. You know, I would love for you
to
come over.”
“Oh, God, Sher. So do I.”
“Then when are you gonna get here?” She asked in a whiney voice which
broke
the flirtatious mood they were in just a few seconds ago.
“Sheridan, I still have these paper work to finish. And not to mention
I
have to testify in two days.”
“But when? Luis, I miss you so much. Not to mention your daughter has
been
sulking everyday that you aren’t here.”
“I know. I’ve heard it from her a while ago.”
Sheridan knew that Luis really wanted to be there with them, but with
things coming up, she knew that he couldn’t come. “Luis, you’re gonna
be
here for Christmas, right?”
“Sheridan, no matter what, I will be there for Christmas. I promise.”
She
heard on the phone.
“I love you.”
“I love you. I promise, Sher. I promise.”
>>End of Flashback<<
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
That was four days ago. Sheridan knew that Luis wasn’t the type who
would
break promises. Especially to his little girl. He would never want to
disappoint her. She had grown to be his little princess and she always
got
her way with him.
knock, knock
“I got it!” Abbie said as she jumped off her mother’s lap and to the
door.
“Check who it is first.” Sheridan told her daughter.
“Who is it?” Abbie asked.
“Delivery.” She heard through the door. Abbie opened the door and to
her
surprise, she saw a man in a Santa suit. Her eyes grew wide as the
cheery
man stood before her.
“Hello, I’m looking for a Sheridan Crane.” The man said in his best
Santa
voice.
“Mom! Santa’s looking for you.” She said smiling.
“What?” Sheridan said as she walked to the door wondering what her
daughter
was talking about. “I’m Sheridan.” She told the man.
“Well, then, these are for you.” The man said as he reach in his big
red
back and pulled out a dozen wrapped red roses.
Sheridan couldn’t believe it. “Wow, thank you.”
“And if I’m correct, you must be Abigail Lopez Fitzgerald.” He said as
he
bent down to the little girl.
“Actually, it’s Abigail Crane, but I’m going to be a Lopez Fitzgerald
soon!” She said proudly.
“Well, I’m happy for you. I have a little something for you.” He said
as he
reached into his bag again and pulled out flowers.
“Oh, daisies! They’re pretty!” She said as she smelled the flowers.
“Not as pretty as you are.” The man told her.
Sheridan knew who these flowers came from, and she knew what was coming
next. She just hoped that she was wrong and that Luis was really
coming.
“Thank you.” She told him.
“So, what does the pretty Abigail want for Christmas?”
Abbie’s demeanor changed from happy to sad. “I know that you aren’t
Santa
Clause, but I really want my Daddy for Christmas. See, he lives in
Harmony,
which is on the other side of the United States. He promised he’d be
here
for Christmas, but he isn’t here yet.” She said in a low voice.
“Well, we’ll see what Santa can do, okay?”
“Okay,” she said giving him a smile.
Sheridan wiped the tear that escaped from her eye. “Thank you for
delivering these flowers.” She told him with a smile.
“No problem ma’am.”
“Um, here, let me go get your tip.”
“No, don’t worry about it. It’s been taken care of. Merry Christmas.”
“Merry Christmas.” Abbie and Sheridan said.
Sheridan closed the door and offered to put their flowers in a vase. As
they walked into the kitchen, she heard the door knock again. “Maybe
the
delivery man forgot something.” She told Abbie.
“I’ll get it.” Abbie told her mother.
Sheridan was filling the vase with water and admiring the beautiful
roses
Luis sent to her. She was mad though. He promised he would be there and
he
just sent flowers. This wasn’t like Luis. Something was wrong. He
wouldn’t
break his promise intentionally.
“Daddy!” She heard. Could it be? No. It couldn’t. She had to go out to
see
for herself.
“Oh, Princess, I’ve missed you so much.”
“I missed you, too, Daddy!”
Sheridan saw the most beautiful sight before her. Luis was there in
front
of her. Yet, he didn’t seem to notice her.
“When did you get here?”
“I just got here! I rode with Santa’s reindeer. Yup, he told me about
you
wanting me home for Christmas and so he offered me a ride on his
sleigh.”
“Daddy! You’re so silly! There is no Santa!” She said with a big smile
on
her face and giggled as her father tickled her.”
“Of course there’s a Santa Clause!”
“Yeah, right Daddy! And I’m the Queen of England!”
“No, you’re the Princess of my heart!” Luis said as he kissed his
daughter’s cheek. When he looked up, he saw a beautiful sight. His eyes
connected to a set of sparkling blue ones that always made his heart
skip a
beat.
His smile grew wider. “And there’s the Queen.” He said as he set
his
daughter down on her feet and walked toward his love of his life.
“Luis!” Sheridan said as she threw her arms around his neck and took in
his
scent. “Oh, Luis, I’ve missed you so much.”
“Baby, you don’t know how much I’ve miss you.” Luis said as he looked
into
her beautiful eyes. He could feel himself pulling closer to Sheridan’s
waiting lips. A soft quick kiss turned into a passionate one as they
reunited their hearts.
They were so occupied with one another that they did not notice the
widest
smile on their daughter’s face as she knew this was the family she
wanted.
Christmas was complete.
