Chapter 1:
“Wake up, Harmony! The time is 5:30 AM, time to get your lazy
butts out of bed!” This is Bob Roberts, and you’re listening to Harmony’s
own, WGRD. “
A dark haired man, in his middle twenties, reached for the alarm
clock, and groaned. “I hate the morning.” He slowly got out of his warm
inviting bed, and shuffled slowly to his bathroom. He looked in the
mirror, and studied his perfectly chiseled face. He gazed into the
replica of his misty hazel eyes, and he looked down, at his muscular pecs,
and down to his molded abdominal muscles.
Luis went to the shower, and turned on the water. Hot, steamy
water poured from the faucet, and he undressed out of his boxers. He
climbed into the shower, and let the warm water cascade down his body.
About half an hour later, he lazily got out of the shower, and put on a
robe. He walked over to his closet, and looked at all the police uniforms
he had.
He was one of Harmony’s finest police officers, and he loved
his job. He worked with his best friend, Hank, and his older friend,
Sam. He didn’t have a girlfriend, he didn’t really believe in commitment
at the moment. He put on his uniform, and went back to the bathroom.
He jelled his spiky hair, and brushed his teeth. He looked into the
mirror, and smiled.
~*~*~*~*
Sheridan Crane looked into the foggy mirror. She stared at her
reflection. She was about 5’8”, blonde-brown hair, curly, and she had a
perfect physique. She smiled at the reflection, and went to her closet.
She was a secretary for a firm, where her nephew Ethan worked, as a
lawyer. She didn’t have a boyfriend; she didn’t really want one.
Sheridan looked down at her cat, Sasha. “Sasha…Mommy’s going to
work now, I’ll be back later.” The cat meowed in response. Sheridan
smiled and went out the door.
~*~*~*~*
Ethan Crane was a wealthy prominent member in the society of
Harmony, and he was respected as a good-tempered lawyer. He wasn’t married,
and some people wondered why.
Ethan straightened his royal blue tie and smiled at his reflection.
He was about 5’10”, crystal clear blue eyes, and a mop of brown hair.
His cheekbones were clearly defined, and he was the envy of every rich
man in Harmony. “I know you’re going to win the case today. It’s in
the bag.”
~*~*~*~*
Theresa Lopez-Fitzgerald sighed heavily in her sleep. The 21 year
old just graduated from college, and she spent her days sleeping in and
daydreaming about one man and one man only- Ethan Crane. She was
short, only 5’6”, she had long jet black hair, and wide-set eyes. She
rolled in her bed, and mumbled Ethan’s name.
~*~*~*~*
Theresa’s twin brother, Miguel, was downstairs in his bedroom,
punching a boxing bag. He just graduated from Harmony University also, and
he wanted to do more productive things than his sister. He was 5’10”,
spiky jet black hair, deep blue eyes, and a swimmer’s body. He had one
good friend, actually a best friend. Her name was Kay Bennett. Miguel
picked up a photo of him and her on their graduation day, and he
smiled, recalling the day…
“Miguel? Can you believe it? We are done with college!” Kay
beamed, glowing with happiness.
“Yeah. I believe it.” Miguel looked down, with a frown on his
face.
Kay looked worried. “What’s wrong, Miguel? Aren’t you excited?”
Miguel shook his head. “Not really. I don’t want things to
change.”
Kay’s eyes squinted with confusion. “I don’t get it. You kept on
saying during our senior year that you couldn’t wait for school to get
over, and now when it does, you want to stay?”
Miguel laughed and shook his head. “I wanted the work to be done,
Kay. But I don’t want us to change.”
Kay smiled. “Oh. Well…we won’t, Miguel. You know I will always
be your best friend!”
Miguel nodded, and smiled. “I know, Kay. I’m just worried that
I’ll never see you again.”
“Miguel Lopez-Fitzgerald! Don’t be silly! You are going to get so
sick of me this summer, you will want me to go away!”
Miguel laughed. “I hope you mean that, Kay.”
Kay stared into his eyes. “You know I do.”
Miguel drifted back into the present, and he frowned.
Kay only
hung out with him for a couple days after graduation, and he hadn’t heard
from her since. He sighed, and picked up the telephone. “I might as
well call again.”
Miguel dialed her number, and the phone rang. Again. And again.
“Hello?” Miguel could recognize that voice in a crowd of 100.
“Kay! Is that you?”
“Oh my…Miguel! What’s up?”
“Nothing much…you?”
“Same here. How’s your summer going?”
“Well…pretty boring so far. How come we never do anything?”
“Um…you never call me.”
“What? I call you like all the time, but you’re never home!”
“Never home? I’m home all the time. Jessica uses the phone so
much, I never have time to call anyone.”
“Well I always give Jessica my messages.”
“That little twerp! She never tells me that you call! Remind me
to beat her up later.”
“That’s real nice, Kay. So…are you up for anything tonight?”
“Tonight? Sure…what do you have in mind?”
Miguel looked through the paper and saw an ad for a club. “Well…we
could put those new ID’s of ours to the test…wanna go to The Rainforest
Club?”
Kay smiled. “Is that the new club over on Wilshire Street?”
Miguel nodded. “Yeah, and I hear it’s amazing.”
“Sure! Jeez, now I need to find something to wear!”
Miguel laughed. “Do you want to invite Simone?”
“Sure, and you can invite Reese too.”
“Alright. So, I’ll pick you up at 10?”
“Sure thing! See you then.”
“Bye Kay.”
“Bye Miguel.”
Miguel smiled as he hung up the phone. Ever since he broke up with
Charity, he’s wanted to ask Kay out, to hang out with her more, to see
if she liked him. He looked at his mirror, and he frowned. “Man, you
gotta look better than that if you even want a little chance with her."
~*~*~*~*
Kay Bennett hung up the phone, and jumped on her bed. “Miguel
asked me to go to a club, Miguel asked me to go to a club!” Jessica poked
her head through Kay’s door, and she rolled her eyes. “What do you
want?”
Jessica simply laughed, and walked away.
Kay flopped down on her
bed, and she looked at her mirror. “Ewww…you look awful. Miguel will
not take one look at you like that. I need to take a shower!” The 5’9”
light brown haired woman sauntered over to her bathroom like a model,
and she turned on the water to the shower, preparing for the big night
to come.

Chapter 2:
Luis looked at his watch. “Aww, shit. I’m late…” He got out of
his booth at Krispy Kreme, and he walked briskly out the door. “Sam’s
gonna grill me bout this one. Maybe I should get the guys some donuts.”
He thought for a moment, and went back in. “Uhh, I’d like a dozen
glazed donuts…”
Meanwhile, Sheridan was driving her Mercedes down Park Avenue,
towards the massive Crane Industries building. Sheridan pulled into the
parking lot, and got out of her shiny car. She walked gracefully towards
the building, and took off her Versace sunglasses as she entered. A
guard came to meet her. “Why hello, Miss Crane. Beautiful day, huh?”
Sheridan smiled and nodded. “Yeah, it is, Jonathan. Good day.”
Jonathan nodded, and Sheridan went to the elevator. A shout came
from behind her. “Hold it! Please!”
Ethan ran to the elevator, and jumped in. “Sheridan! How are
you?”
“Hi, Ethan. I’m doing well. You?”
“I’m okay…I have a big trial today.”
“Oh, yeah. Is it the Stanley case?”
“Yeah. I don’t know if I’m gonna win this one, Sher.”
“Ethan, you’re the best lawyer on this side of the Mississippi. Of
course you’ll win!”
“Thanks, Sher. You’re the best aunt a guy can get.”
“You’re welcome, Ethan. You’re not too bad of a nephew yourself.”
Sheridan smiled and laughed.
“Thanks, I think.” The elevator opened, and they both got out.
“Well, good luck, Ethan.”
“Thanks, I need all the luck I can get. See you later.”
“Sure thing!” Sheridan walked to her desk, and put her briefcase
down. She looked over to the mailboy. “Hey, Stuie! Anything good
today?”
The acne-plagued boy shook his head in the negative, and blurted
with his cracking voice. “Not today, Miss Crane. Just the usual junk.”
Sheridan rolled her eyes. “As usual.”
Ethan, meanwhile, was behind his desk, looking over the paperwork
for his big case. He looked up, at a picture of his current girlfriend,
Gwen… *Oh man, how am I gonna break the news to her? She’s expecting
a ring, not a plea to break up…* Ethan shook his head, and sighed.
*They're more important things to worry about right now, man.* He rubbed
his temples, trying to hold back the oncoming headache.
The sun shined through Theresa’s hot pink curtains. Theresa’s
eyelids fluttered, and she rose, yawning and stretching. She looked around
her room, smiling. Even if you were a stranger, you would know this
girl likes the color pink. Pink bed, pink curtains, walls, ceiling,
floor, and even a pink door. Theresa got off her bed and walked towards
her mirror. She smiled at her reflection, and started brushing her hair.
Meanwhile, a floor underneath her, hot steamy water was cascading
down Miguel’s perfectly fit body. He couldn’t get the thought of seeing
Kay again out of his mind.
“Man, I wonder if she looks any different,”
he said to himself. He turned around and turned off the water. He
opened the curtain, and got a towel. He dried himself off, and wiped the
foggy mirror. Since the last time he saw Kay, Miguel changed. He grew
taller, leaner. His eyes became bolder, filled with more life. He cut
his hair, back to his regular spike; the way he knew Kay liked it. He
even took Kay’s advice from a long time ago to highlight his hair. “I
hope she’ll like me…”
Kay searched her closet, pondering what she should wear. All of a
sudden, her phone rang. “Hello?”
“Kay! What’s up?”
“Simone! Hey! Not much…I was just gonna call you.”
“Oh, cool. What are you doing right now?”
“Well, I’m trying to figure out what I’m gonna wear tonight.
Miguel wants to go to the Rainforest Club.”
“Sweet! The new one?”
“Yeah, and we want you and Reese to come.” Kay’s eyebrows wiggled
suggestively when she said Reese’s name.
“Kay…I know what you’re thinking. There’s no way I am hooking up
with Reese. You can forget it!”
“Ok, ok. But will you come tonight?”
“Miss up a chance to prove to you that I can dance better than you?
No way!”
“Haha, funny. You know you can never dance as good as I do.”
“Whatever, Kay.”
“Hey! I have an idea. Wanna go to the mall and shop for things to
wear tonight?”
“Sure…I’ll be over in a couple of minutes.”
“Ok…See ya then!”
“Later.”
Kay smiled and hung up the phone. She was going to look
spectacular for tonight, no doubt about it. She smiled as she thought of Miguel…

Chapter 3:
Luis looked at his watch. “Crap, crap, crap! Sam’s gonna kill
me!” He parked in the lot, and ran to the door. He opened the police
station’s door, and he smiled as he entered. “Officer Lopez-Fitzgerald,
bearing gifts for all!” A tall blond-haired officer stepped forward.
“Luis, dude, Sam is pissed.”
Luis rolled his eyes. “Great, Hank. Where is he?”
Hank pointed towards Sam’s office.
“Thanks, man. Donut?”
“No…I think you should save them all for Sam. He wants your neck…”
“Shit, is it that bad?”
Hank nodded. “See for yourself.”
Luis sighed, and began walking towards Sam’s office. He took a
deep breath, and opened his office door. “Chief Bennett?”
“Lopez-Fitzgerald, sit down.”
Luis looked down. “Yes, sir.”
“Luis…I am really dissappointed. This is the SEVENTH time you’re
late for work. This has got to stop, officer, or else I’ll be forced to
ask you for your badge. What do you have to say for yourself?”
Luis smiled, and looked up. “Donut?”
Sam chuckled. “Man, you sure know how to crack me up. Give me the
box.”
Luis handed Sam the donut box, and Sam opened it and smelled the
wafting sugary aroma. “MM…glazed.”
Luis walked towards Sam, and reached for a donut. “No way,
Lopez-Fitzgerald.”
“Fine, Sam.” Luis walked away, sulking…
Meanwhile, Sheridan sat at her desk, taking phone calls…mostly prank
calls by teenage delinquents… Sheridan sighed. *This job sucks. It’s
soooo boring, and I get paid like minimum wage! Not to mention, the
guys are like hounds…All they so is gawk and drool. Typical…* She typed
on her computer, engaging in an interesting IM with a 20-year-old.
“So…what do you do for a living?”
“I’m a secretary.”
“Oh…where at?”
“I’m not telling that…”
“Wanna cyber?”
Sheridan’s face cringed. “No thanks, asshole.” She pressed the
block button. “Eww…”
She looked around her office, and yawned. Everybody in their own
cubicle, talking about their stocks by the water coolers, talking about
their son’s little league game they had to go to after work. Sheridan
frowned. *I wish I had to go to a little league game…*
Ethan stared at the mirror. *You can do it, man. You have the
evidence. Just use it against those bastards. You’re gonna win. So why
do I have this bad feeling in the back of my throat?* Ethan shook his
head, and grabbed his briefcase.
“Trial number 22147, Bentham versus Stanley.”
Ethan smiled at the worried brunette. “That’s us, Karen.”
Mrs. Stanley nodded her head, with beads of sweat beginning to
show.
“Don’t worry, Karen. We’ll prove you’re innocent.”
“I know, Ethan, I know. I’m just a little nervous, that’s all.”
She managed a smile for Ethan’s sake. “Let’s get these bastards.”
Ethan smiled. *Yeah…let’s get them.*
Theresa looked at her wardrobe. *Hmmm….should I wear my new pink
sundress? Or my pink mini, with the light pink tank top…* She pondered
for a minute, and grabbed the little skirt and shirt. The phone rang,
and Theresa ran to pick it up. “Hello?”
“Hey girl!”
“Whit! What’s up?”
“Not much, Ther. Wanna go to the mall?”
“Sure, I just need to get ready.”
“K, see ya in 30?”
“Sure! Later.”
“Bye.”
Theresa hung up the phone, and ran to the bathroom. She noticed
the door was locked. “MIGUUUEL!”
“WHAT?”
“HURRY UP! I NEED TO MEET WHIT IN 30 MINUTES!”
Miguel opened the door. “Sheesh, what is with you girls? You act
like the world is gonna end if your hair doesn’t look perfect.” Miguel
laughed.
“Shut up, twerp.” Theresa slammed the door.
“RRR…someone got off the wrong side of the bed today!” Miguel
walked downstairs to his bedroom, and pulled out a grey Abercrombie
sweater, and some khakis. He put some gel in his hair, and he walked into the
kitchen, and grabbed some Frosted Mini Wheats. The doorbell rang, and
Theresa screamed. “Don’t worry, Ther! It’s for me!” Miguel yelled.
Miguel opened the door. “What’s up, man!”
Reese smiled. Ever since he lost the glasses, and got a haircut,
he became the envy of every girl at University of Harmony, well, except
Simone. “Not much, Mig.”
They walked into his house, and Miguel finished his cereal.
“So…are you excited about tonight?”
“Yeah…I haven’t seen Kay in a long time. What about you? Don’t
you wonder what Simone looks like now?”
Reese blushed. “Miguel…she doesn’t like me.”
Miguel rolled his eyes. “That's because she doesn’t know what
you’re like…Just wait, she’ll love you.”
“I doubt that.”
Meanwhile, Kay and Simone were at Express, trying on different
outfits for the big night. "Is this one too hootchie?" Kay looked into
the mirror, and placed her hands on her hips. Simone shook her head.
“Naw…it’s perfect! Miguel will love it!”
“I hope so. Reese will love yours too!”
“For the LAST time, Kay. I do not like REESE! No, no, no!”
Kay rolled her eyes. “Suuuuure, Simone. Whatever you say.”
Simone whimpered. “Kay, I don’t like him.”
Kay smiled. *We’ll see about that. After tonight, you will LOVE
him.*

Chapter 4:
“Hey, Sam! I’m going on my lunch break, k?”
“Whatever, Lopez-Fitzgerald. Just be back by 2, okay?”
“Sure thing, Chief!” Luis walked out of the police station and
walked down Main Street. He walked to Betty’s Diner, and entered. He
looked around, and grabbed himself a booth by the window. A 40-year old
waitress took Luis’s order, consisting of a BLT sandwich, fries, and a
chocolate milkshake. She winked at the handsome policeman, and Luis
smiled.
He looked around the diner, and spotted his sister with her best
friend, Whitney. He walked over to her table, and sat in an empty chair.
“Hey sis!”
Theresa rolled her eyes. “Hi, Luis.”
Whitney smiled. “Hi Luis.”
“Hello Whitney.”
“What do you want, Luis?”
“Just to say hi to my lovely sister.”
“Well, you said hi, sooo…”
Luis laughed. “Why are you so anxious for me to leave?”
Theresa’s eyes darted. “Because…”
Luis nodded. “Because what?”
Theresa looked at the door. “Uh, we gotta go. Bye bro!”
“Bye, Theresa, Whitney.”
Luis shook his head as he watched his sister talk with some boys.
He walked to the door, and he could hear…
“Yeah, so are you gonna go to the Rainbow Club tonight?”
“Yeah, I think so.” A tall dark-haired boy said.
“Great! See you there!”
Luis smiled. “See me there too.”
Meanwhile, Sheridan was walking down Main Street, looking for a
place to eat. She always went to Sally’s, for Chinese. But that lady was
creeping her out! She looked at a sign. “Hmm…Betty’s Diner. Sounds
good to me!” She opened the diner door, and collided with a tall, dark
figure. “EXCUSE ME!”
She looked up, wide-eyed at this person who had the boldness to
bump into her! “What do you have to say for yourself?”
Luis looked at the beautiful, pissed off blonde creature, and
smiled. “Excuse you?”
Sheridan’s eyes narrowed. “Excuse ME?”
“Wow…don’t you have anything else in your vocabulary except for
those two words?”
Sheridan growled. “As a matter of fact, I am Sheridan Crane. I
went to Princeton, then to Georgetown Law. Where did you go?”
“As a matter of fact,” Luis said, mocking Sheridan’s tone, “I went
to Yale. I came back here, to my hometown, to become a police OFFICER.
Something I’ve always wanted to be, Miss Crane.”
Sheridan nodded. “Well, you sure didn’t get ANY education on
proper manners, Officer.”
“No, I guess I didn’t, Crane.”
Sheridan glared at Luis. “You have no right to call me that,
Officer.”
“Oh, I think I do, Crane. You know, I do have rights, even though
I am the ‘commonfolk’, as Julian likes to put it. You know…freedom of
speech?”
Sheridan growled again. “Look here, Lopez-Fitzgerald,” Sheridan
said, reading his name tag, “I am nothing like my absent-minded brother.
You hear?”
“Loud and clear, Crane.” Luis said, sticking a finger in his ear.
Sheridan let out a high-pitched shriek and quickly went out the
door. “What an asshole!”
Luis laughed to himself. “Wow, that Crane is sure a bitch.”
