Bulldog Welcome to our TYR Discussion. If anyone knows me-they know this is my favorite ep out of all TYR. Many thanks go out to Nora for discussing this ep with me and for being really patient while I got this posted. I really enjoyed it. Hope you enjoy! NightinGail777: Hiya Nora! Thanks so much for discussing Bulldog with me tonight. Just sit back and have a good time. NoraLou9: I sure will! NightinGail777: I just love the look on Ambrose's face when he gets out at St. Joe. He looks like a kid who has just won a truckload of candy. NoraLou9: The actor had great expressions. But Ambrose Merriweather Jr.?!?! Who named that? NightinGail777: I don't know but it fit him well. NoraLou9: But I can completely understand his excitement. NoraLou9: Heck, I get excited if I hear/do anything PX related! NoraLou9: My only regret about living in CA-I can't go any futher west! NightinGail777: That's true.....of course I can't say that cos I live on the east coast...heehee NightinGail777: I never trusted his uncle..he just looked mean and evil. NoraLou9: Very true. He had shifty eyes. NoraLou9: Maybe he was sending Ambrose out to get killed? NoraLou9: :-) NightinGail777: I think he could have.....or just sent him on a wild goose chase. NoraLou9: you mean to kind of get him out of the way? NoraLou9: well, his uncle was a snake. NightinGail777: Well....I think his uncle knew that whatever he did-the route would be changed. NoraLou9: good point NightinGail777: I think he must have thought that Ambrose wouldn't do a thourough job. NoraLou9: oh, I hadn't thought of that NightinGail777: Now's the part where they are teasing Jimmy about his letter.......that is hillarious. NoraLou9: oh yes, Jimmy and his adoring fans! NightinGail777: Kid even asks Jimmy for his autograph....only goes to show that Kid wishes he was Jimmy!!! NoraLou9: LOL! NoraLou9: Well, if I were Kid I'd wish to be Jimmy, too NightinGail777: Heehee.....I can't wait till Jamie reads this....finally someone who agrees with me and knows Jimmy is the better man! NightinGail777: I guess Kid has his moments......I just have never seen any of them....... NightinGail777: .........nor do I want to. NoraLou9: hehe NoraLou9: Of course, I'm in the minority being a Cody fan you know! NightinGail777: Well Cody is in the tops with me.........there's Jimmy, Buck and Cody......the rest can't touch them! NoraLou9: Are you to the part yet where Ambrose meets with the station masters and riders? NoraLou9: I think that's hilarious NightinGail777: Just about.....Teaspoon is calling the meeting to order.........now just look at Jimmy's face when Teaspoon introduces Ambrose. NoraLou9: pretty funny stuff NoraLou9: finally Tsp. has to shoot off his gun to get attention NoraLou9: what a rowdy bunch! NightinGail777: What's funny also is when Ambrose realizes who Hickok is. NightinGail777: Poor Ambrose though.....all those riders were after him and he was so nieve(?) NoraLou9: yeah, you had to like him NightinGail777: Our boys can handle a crowd can't they? NoraLou9: But yes, the boys handle a crowd quite well NoraLou9: they would have made great camp counselors! NightinGail777: There goes the chair through the window....and Ambrose hits the ground. NoraLou9: and tsp. says "get on a horse, get on something!" NoraLou9: and the way Lou decks that rider-way to go, Lou!8-) NightinGail777: Yep....Lou is a tough one. NightinGail777: Now they make their quick getaway. Poor Ambrose is left behind.....until Jimmy gives him a lift. NoraLou9: and then poor Ambrose is riding backwards! NightinGail777: And don't you just love the things Ambrose writes in his journal. NoraLou9: yep, makin' himself out to be a big stud! NightinGail777: Heehee...now they are doing Cody's fave thing......eating. NoraLou9: well, that's one of my favorite things, too! NoraLou9: although its' funny-you can never quite tell what they're eating NightinGail777: What would you like for me to call you Mr. Hickok? Mr. Hickok, Wild Bill or James. NoraLou9: LOL! NightinGail777: Jimmy is just fine. NoraLou9: And then he ends up calling him "Jim" much to Jimmy's disgust NightinGail777: Now is a Buck moment. So funny when Buck asks him-can you ride? You can hear the doubt in Buck's voice. NoraLou9: and Ambrose looks soooo funny riding a horse! NightinGail777: Just give him a little kick....heehee NightinGail777: I love the way he holds the reins. NoraLou9: He looks like he'd be more comfortable behind a desk NoraLou9: of course, I've been on horses that won't budge no matter how hard you kick! NightinGail777: I have too.......but then I have been on some that you don't even have to kick. NoraLou9: hehe NoraLou9: some horses are more spirited than others NightinGail777: He so looks the nerdy part.....and he is getting on Jimmy's last nerve when he ask him about Longley and Caulder. NightinGail777: Then he calls Jimmy, Jim. NoraLou9: and Jimmy is not a Jim NightinGail777: No he is not.....I don't even like it when they call him James.....he's just Jimmy. NoraLou9: I agree NoraLou9: It suited him well NightinGail777: Did you happen to notice the way he gets back on his horse? NoraLou9: no, but I guess it was interesting NightinGail777: He puts his right foot in the stirrups and tries to get on.......wrong thing to do. NoraLou9: oh yes, you end up backwards that way! NightinGail777: How true. NightinGail777: He got it right though. NightinGail777: Of course I think it was mighty sweet of Buck and Ike to shoot those bottles and let him think he was doing it. NoraLou9: That was one of my favorite scene. And Ambrose looks so proud of himself! NightinGail777: He does that......and in his journal......Jimmy says soon he will be the fastest gun........now that is an imagination. NightinGail777: I don't think Ambrose was scared of anything-when he and Buck went to talk to the indians.....he wouldn't give up......Buck finally left. NoraLou9: Well, like (okay, was it Kid or Lou) said, "He's got guts". NightinGail777: I think it was Kid.......and do you remember what Cody said? NoraLou9: Yep, "And they're gonn be all over the place":-) NightinGail777: Jimmy looks so sexy up on Powder Keg. NightinGail777: Then Ambrose wants to try to ride him. NoraLou9: I don't think I'd get on a horse named Powder Keg! NightinGail777: He does have a lot of guts. NoraLou9: But I think Ambrose was trying to prove himself NoraLou9: And he especially didn't want to look bad in front of Jimmy NightinGail777: Yep...and Jimmy and the others thought is was funny til they really knew he was in trouble. NightinGail777: He wanted to be so much like his hero. NoraLou9: well, I can understand that NoraLou9: I wanted to be the Bionic Woman-when I was 6, of course! NightinGail777: And of course Teaspoon comes along and calls him a real "Bulldog" NoraLou9: a very fitting nickname NightinGail777: What would we do without our Teaspoon? NoraLou9: although I've seen some people who do actually look like bulldogs! NightinGail777: Oh I have too.....heehee. NoraLou9: of course, I've been told my dog resembles me, too:-) But he's a golden retriever NightinGail777: You know......I have seen people who look like their pets....I have a yellow lab but I don't look anything like her. NoraLou9: there's always the exception... NoraLou9: But I wonder if Tsp. didn't quite get the nickname right NoraLou9: most bulldogs I know are lazy, not scrappy NightinGail777: Getting off the ep for a second.......have you ever seen the comercial for pet med express...now those pets look so much like their owners. NoraLou9: Oh, yes, that ad is so funny! NightinGail777: The lady that has the pekingnese-now tell me they don't have the same hair dresser......heehee NoraLou9: LLOL! NightinGail777: Ok...back to the ep. I think Bulldog was considered back then someone who would do anything with the horses, cows......even if they couldn't ride them. I could be wrong. NoraLou9: okay, that makes sense NightinGail777: You can see the anger in Jimmy's face when he sends him and Ambrose to St. Joe NoraLou9: Not a trip Jimmy was looking forward too. He must have felt more like a chaperone NightinGail777: I think at this time......Ambrose was still getting on Jimmy's nerves. The last thing he wanted was to spend several days on the trail with him. NoraLou9: Yeah, but I think he was beginning to soften just a little NightinGail777: Maybe just a little. NoraLou9: and do you see what's on the ground? actually snow!! NightinGail777: I know-do you think it was the real stuff? Of courseAmbrose sure can get down a mountain fast.....even if he falls off the horse. NoraLou9: I think maybe it was. It can get pretty cold in parts of AZ. during the winter NoraLou9: One March Chris and I went to see the Grand Canyon and it was snowed in!! NoraLou9: The weather channel was like "It's 80 in Fargo, and the only snow in the U.S. is in Arizona":-\ NightinGail777: Wow.....I didn't know that. I think Jimmy was a little harsh on Ambrose at the campfire. NoraLou9: Yeah, but I think Jimmy gets a little harsh at first because he's really beginning to soften up on the inside NoraLou9: just a theory NightinGail777: Could be. There he goes writing in his journal again. NightinGail777: You gotta love his imagination though. NoraLou9: I think he was a little too imaginative NightinGail777: Aren't we all sometime or another....heehee. NoraLou9: esp. us fan fic writers! NightinGail777: I know......it's a good thing sometimes. NoraLou9: yep, where would we be without our fanfic? NightinGail777: Well to me TYR would get a little boring.....we have some really talented writers out there! NightinGail777: Of course if there was no fan-fic......I could always look at Jimmy's face, hands, walk....Ok-I'm not going there now or we'll never finish. NightinGail777: ;-) NoraLou9: LOL NightinGail777: I can't stand the way Mr. Merriweather just brushes Jimmy off. NoraLou9: You think he'd have more respect for his employees NoraLou9: After all, he wasn't the one out on the trail risking his life NightinGail777: He was in it for the money. But brave Ambrose isn't finished investigating yet. NoraLou9: It's good that he stuck to his convictions NightinGail777: Yep. Oh no......here comes Jimmy's temper and of course he is wrong this time. Now here comes Ambrose's temper. NightinGail777: Outside Jimmy.........come on Hickok! NoraLou9: at least that's an area where they were equally matched! NoraLou9: the tempers I mean, not the fighting skills! NightinGail777: That's true. Jimmy does let him get the better of him for a while. NightinGail777: Jimmy feels so guilty when he looks at everybody and says-"well he started it". NoraLou9: But you have to give Jimmy credit, he does apologize when he finds out he's wrong, unlike some husbands I know.... NoraLou9: But, yeah, he probably went a little too far during the fight NightinGail777: Yes he does. NightinGail777: I just love the way they treat him when they dress him up like a "real" cowboy. NoraLou9: yeah, like he's some kind of doll! NightinGail777: And Jimmy has a gun made for him. NoraLou9: but it was cute NoraLou9: but then his uncle discovers them.... NightinGail777: They all stick together when Mr. Merriweather gets to Sweetwater. NoraLou9: ooops, that's right, it was him NightinGail777: And bravo to Ambrose for standing up to his uncle. NoraLou9: I love some of that dialouge: "He can't just fire us like that, can he?" "I think he just did" NightinGail777: I know...Cody and Buck. NoraLou9: of course, after being treated like they were I might not feel to bad if I got fired! NoraLou9: let somebody else take this job and shove it;-) NightinGail777: I probably wouldn't either. NoraLou9: They were loyal to the px., we have to give them that NightinGail777: I love when Ambrose goes in to talk to Sam...."Oh your'e Bulldog...I've heard of you". NoraLou9: his reputation preceded him! NightinGail777: Heehee. NoraLou9: and Sam was gonna take some deputies with him "just in case" NightinGail777: I was just gonna say I love when he says that. NoraLou9: Sam was so nice..too bad they had to write out his character NightinGail777: I know......I thought they would have at least brought em back for Kid and Lou's wedding. NoraLou9: Well, you know those 3rd season writers:-\ NightinGail777: And poor Bulldog....they tie him up....but Jimmy was looking out for him. NoraLou9: but....he was double jointed! NoraLou9: a master of escapes!! NightinGail777: Now the fight....our boys are the best. NightinGail777: And Kid is hit. NightinGail777: Now Ambrose looks scared. NoraLou9: Well, heck, I'd be scared, too! NightinGail777: He freezes up. NightinGail777: Now Ike is hit. NoraLou9: It was a pretty bloody battle NightinGail777: And the indians are just sitting there.....thinking-those men are crazy. NoraLou9: I don't blame them:-) NightinGail777: Thanks to Bulldog-he saved Jimmy's life. NoraLou9: Yea-our hero!! NightinGail777: Now the indians be so bad when they try to take our riders. NoraLou9: And Jimmy is truly grateful to Bulldog NightinGail777: Jimmy is so concerned for Ambrose. NoraLou9: It was one of JB's finest moments as an actor on the show NightinGail777: I agree 100% NightinGail777: This is the saddest part. It really shows Jimmy's softer side. NoraLou9: he showed such real, raw emotion NightinGail777: Oh...he just wants to make him comfortable. NoraLou9: Yeah, I think he knows there's no hope for him NoraLou9: he must have felt so helpless NightinGail777: I think he did. NightinGail777: I know.......he yells-"don't you die on me". NoraLou9: poor guy:'( NoraLou9: But then, he did fulfill his dream before he died. How many people can say that? NightinGail777: I think Ambrose really got to him....he started out as someone who got on his nerves but in the end saved his life and they were friends. NightinGail777: That's true. NoraLou9: that's what made it a great episode. there was room for character development NoraLou9: some other guest characters were just kind of there and gone NightinGail777: I love the part where Teaspoon reads from his journal. NoraLou9: Yes, very poingant (sp?) NightinGail777: Yes.......I think it would have been great if Ambrose had lived and went on to be an express rider. NoraLou9: yeah, or if he could have returned in a future ep. NightinGail777: It is so touching when Jimmy says his goodbyes. NoraLou9: Overall, one of the best TYR stories-good acting, dialouge, plot NightinGail777: I think so too. I have worn out so many tapes from watching it over and over. There is humor, sadness, bravery, loyality and a lot more all wrapped up in one ep. NoraLou9: actually it was the ep. that got Chris hooked NightinGail777: To me-it's the best one......I can see why Chris got hooked. NoraLou9: Well, I think Heather wants to say goodnight to her mama, but this has been so much fun! Thanks for letting me participate NightinGail777: Thanks for helping me out.
