Fan of the Month

March 2002

This months fan has been around for almost two years now. She has amazed us with some awesome fan fic. She has been on a little leave from the fandom due to giving birth to a beautiful son but she's gradually coming back-strong as ever. Not only does she share/have 3 websites now but has helped start out a few others. She also helped plan the first ECR. We both have met her and can only say that she is one of the sweetest persons you'll ever meet. Our fan this month is none other than Charla!

Charla & Griffin

1. What is your name or TYR name?

Well, I started out as “saddlefan,” but ended up meeting so many folks IRL, that I started using my real name, Charla.

2. How old will you be on your next birthday-include the date if you want?

32, April 24th

3. Tell us a little about your childhood.

I was born and raised in East Texas by two terrific parents. I have both an older brother and sister. I loved to read from the time I was small and still do to this day

4. Are you married, have children?

Married to a wonderful husband (I got it right the second time around!) and have three kids, ages 10, 6 and 5 months.

5. What do you wanna be when you grow up?

Grow up!??! Must I?!?! Okay, seriously, I want to be a published writer. I’ve written my whole life, but never anything to be published. I’m about to take an extended break from fanfic and concentrate on something that might actually be printed with my name on it!

6. What really annoys you the most?

That’s a tough question because a lot of things annoy me. Are we talking generally or philosophically? The two that first come to mind are prejudice and injustice. Little pet peeves include inconsiderate drivers, junk mail and smart mouthed little kids

7. Who are your fave characters and why?

I must preface this by saying that I truly love all of the TYR characters; the ensemble is what made TYR so special. But if I must narrow it down, Lou is my absolute favorite; she embodied so many traits that I wished I had had when the show first aired. Charla history lesson 101: I was 19 when the show first aired on ABC, newly married to a crappy husband and miserable. TYR was not only an escape, but also an example -- Lou stood up for herself, was independent, smart and didn’t let the bad things in her past, or present, break her – basically, I wanted to be just like Lou. And if you want to know who I think (and thought then) is the true TYR hottie – well, that would be Kid of course. *whisper* …but I am known to have Jimmy tendencies. ;)

8. When did you find the TYR sites on the web and start visiting them regularly?

Summer (June) 2000 -- I didn’t even lurk, but dived right on in!!

9. Who was the first person that you had contact with from TYR land?

Gail was one of the very first, as well as JaMarie, ChelleBelle, AmyDC and Nora. The first person I met in real life was Aimee

10. Do you have a site or share a site with someone?

Three actually – Shannon and I co-webmistress Lovers Lane. I also have a little website called The Youngest Riders which features all the expectant and new Mommies in TYR land. And last, but not least, I have just helped Starbright to re-open the AYRF – TYR fanfic awards.

11. If you could be one character from the show(guest stars included)who would it be?

Because of my answers to the above question # 7, I would want to be Lou on the show. Not only that, I would get to be in every epidsode AND I’d have got to kiss Kid. ;)

12. Which ep is your fave and least fave and why?

My favorite episode is The Kid because it started it all! I loved the show from it’s first episode in 1989.

My least favorite episode is Kansas. It was/is so depressing because I truly loathe, as said above, prejudice and injustice.

13. If you could meet one person-dead or alive-who would that be and why?

Can I pick two? I would like to meet Jane Austen (dead) and JK Rowling (alive) – my two favorite female authors.

14. If you had five minutes on national TV to discuss any subject-what would it be and why?

Tough question!! I think that I would like to utilize the time to share what a difference Jesus has made in my life, but would worry that I couldn’t fully express the wonderment of His salvation in a mere five minutes. Instead, I'd probably just say "Go Patriots!!" :)
