My TYR name is Sunny. My real name is too sacred to be pronounced. No, actually, it's just really common so I wanted something different to use online.
2. How old will you be on your next birthday-include the date if you want?
The big 2-7 on December 29th.
3. Tell us a little about your childhood.
I grew up in a small ranching town in Colorado. The nearest town was about an hour away and families drove several hours once a month to go to the nearest large town (approx 2 hours) to do grocery shopping. Once a year, our family took one of those outings to see a movie, too. My dad's a game warden, so my younger brother and I had the wonderful experience of often having wild critters in our house and skipping school to do really cool things, like trapping and collaring deer, antelope, etc. I guess somehow that stuck. I married a great guy with his MA in wildlife biology, and my brother is finishing up his BA in the same. My mom was a speech therapist, and now works as a medical transcriptionist at the little county hospital, but she's the one that gave me "culture". The "theatah" and all that :) I feel utterly privileged and grateful to have had such a childhood.
4. Are you married, have children?
Very happily married for nearly 5 years. 15 month old daughter named Lily. Truly the light of our lives!
5. What do you wanna be when you grow up?
Young. No, rich and beautful, er, fat and sassy. . . no, uh. Danged if I know. Actually, I'd like to be wealthy enough to travel around the world, spending a month in an area at a time and do charity or relief work. It would fulfill my wanderlust and my desire to "give back", I suppose.
6. What really annoys you the most?
I'm really pretty easy-going. My hubby and I have probably only had 2 "conflicts" since we've been married, and I typically don't get my feathers ruffled about a lot. Hmm, so, I guess while there are huge injustices and things that really get me angry, if we're just talking about annoyed, I'd have to say people who don't use turn signals when they drive.
7. Who are your fave characters and why?
I like them all, but my favs of the riders are Kid and Jimmy, though I think I would have meshed best with Buck. Weird, huh? Argh, OK, I like Jimmy as the tragic-hero figure, but I'm not sure how we'd get along in person. I think Kid's a little too over, over- something. He'd be too smothering for me, but I enjoyed him a lot as a character. Buck was kinda gloomy sometimes, but overall I think we'd have made a good match :)
I adore Teaspoon, and I think Emma and I would have gotten on smashingly. But, Sam's probably the yummiest. So, I suppose I really liked them all, but some more than others. I even saw a redeeming nature, of sorts, in Jesse.
8. When did you find the TYR sites on the web and start visiting them regularly?
I fell in love with the series when it originally aired on ABC, and taped them from the VERY beginning. (Though the tapes are much worse for the wear.) On a whim I looked up "The Young Riders" on a search engine during Christmas Break (yeah, I was a student then) in 2000. I visited some of the boards, but couldn't bring myself to read fanfic for a couple of months; I was worried that somehow it would all be terrible hack and diminish the fond memories I had of the show. However, my conviction faltered and I read some fic and was hooked! I've been around since then.
9. Who was the first person that you had contact with from TYR land?
It was likely Joanna. I was mesmerized by her fic and wrote to her. I also asked her to beta a fic I was writing and she agreed, but that was about the time she made her exit from the fandom and I never heard from her again. Sigh. BUT, then I met DCAmy and things perked up. (Cheers!)
10. Do you have a site or share a site with someone?
Ha, I'm glad to have enough online ability to navigate a site, much less create one. And I'm sure I'll never have the time to actually maintain a site even if I could. I'm so thankful and pleased that so many fans are willing to take up that burden themselves.
11. If you could be one character from the show(guest stars included)who would it be?
Emma, all the way. Tough, smart, had her eyes wide-open, savvy. Plus, she got Sam. WHOOO!
12. Which ep is your fave and least fave and why?
I LOVED the Blood of Others and Bulldog. Also, False Colors. I like the interactions between Lou and Jimmy and Ambrose and Jimmy, respectively, in the first two. In False Colors, I like to see Kid developed a little more, and I just get a hoot out of all the baseball stuff.
Hated Dark Brother (was that the one with Little Bird?) I just thought it was too lame. Also, the one with the Polish fella who was wrongly accused of, what was it. . . killing his wife? I can hardly watch either of those. Also, I'm not in love with the episode with Polly or the drunkard fella that Rachel kind of falls for. I think those were forced for the sake of having some romance for the older characters. They didn't do it for me, though I did like Polly and Teaspoon together.
13. If you could meet one person-dead or alive-who would that be and why?
Um, the Apostle Peter. I can relate well to his spiritual screw-ups, and sometimes his acts of great faith.
14. If you had five minutes on national TV to discuss any subject-what would it be and why?
Hmm, well, as a Christian, my first impulse is to say Jesus and His Gospel, but I'm not sure most would care to hear about it from a stranger. So, I think I would talk about this country's need to build and maintain strong families to take care of children and about neglected and abused children throughout the US. AND, the need to reform the foster-care system. Uh, I'd be talking REALLY fast
Drop Sunny a note!
