Fan of the Month

September 2001

Jamie and I had such a hard time chosing just one fan for the first month. We wanted to choose someone who had done so much for the fandom. Both Raye and Aimee came to mind. They did a wonderful job planning the Tucson TYR Reunion(even though Jamie and I couldn't attend this year), plus they both share in the AYRF site to which we think they have done a wonderful job. We decided to pick both Aimee and Raye as our first Fan(s) of the Month. We have had the pleasure of meeting Raye(at last year's ECR) and hope to meet Aimee someday soon. We would like to Thank them both for taking time out of their busy schedules to answer some questions. Come now and get to know these two wonderful ladies!

Aimee

What is your name or TYR name?

Aimee

How old will you be on your next birthday-include the date if you want?

I'll be 23 next June 11

Tell us a little about your childhood.

There are two things I remember about my childhood...I just don't remember it being this orange...Okay, if you don't get that reference, you'll have to ask me:)

Well, I was born in California, and when I was 8 my family moved to Mississippi, so that's where I grew up. I'm happy to say, I am living in California again! I've always been interested in the old west, beginning with watching and then reading Little House on the Prairie in the second grade, and then as I got older, any historical fiction I could get my hands on. So when I first saw TYR when I was 11 (hey, this is a TYR thing, of COURSE I'm gonna talk about TYR:) it became my favorite show immediately! (Well, the fact that my mom had made us quit watching G.I. Joe, which had been my favorite show, didn't hurt...she made us quit watching 'cause it wasn't violent ENOUGH...seriously...they shoot at each other and shoot at each other and nobody ever gets hurt! At least TYR was more realistic, right?:)

Anyway, I DID have interests outside of TYR...I was in 4-H, and loved to travel (still do), and loved to read (still do), yada yada yada...I'll quit now:)

Are you married, have children?

No, no and I don't want either...

What do you wanna be when you grow up?

Living in LA, I'm starting to get the entertainment bug...so right now, I'd love to write screenplays or tv shows (that actually get made)...Basically, I just want to do something creative (writing or designing web sites) and get paid for it!

What really annoys you the most?

Oh, where do I start? LLOL...Neopolitan Ice Cream...the kind my dad always used to buy had the strawberry right in the middle...Now, I HATE strawberry ice cream, so it was very annoying. And I also get really annoyed at having to fix other people's mistakes on a consistent basis...that's become part of my job recently, even though it's not supposed to be, because the people in one of our other departments just don't pay attention to what they are doing.

Who are your fave characters and why?

Lou and Kid. When I first started watching the show, it was 'cause of Lou. I've always wanted to be her. She's such a strong woman, yet fully a lady at the same time. She's STILL my hero!

And Kid is my favorite of the guys, but he didn't become my favorite until after I had already found the web sites. Back then it was (don't die of shock) a tie between Kid and Jimmy. But as I've gotten older, and learned more about myself, I've come to appreciate Kid more...his personality is a lot like mine, so I can identify with him...and of course, the man is HOT!:)

When did you find the TYR sites on the web and start visiting them regularly?

Back in September of 1998!!! I had done a search for TYR at one point and come up with nothing, but one day I was bored (probably avoiding studying) so I decided to try again. I found the Express Station Page (back then we were still on the first page of the web ring!) and branched out from there! I haven't looked back since! I can honestly say that TYR has been my favorite show since I was 11, and I never forgot about it, or quit watching the tapes I had, before I found the sites, so finding the sites and jumping right in was just an extention of that...

Who was the first person that you had contact with from TYR land?

Kirsten! She was the first one I e-mailed, the first one I talked to on the phone, and the first one I met in real life!!!

Do you have a site or share a site with someone?

Hee hee...I have a site (the Kidnation), share a site (AYRF...with Raye), am working on a new site (for an RPG I'm in), and have talked with some other TYR fans about doing other sites which I still plan to get there...also, I'm in the process of creating a web site based on The West Wing (my other favorite TV show) with Sid.

If you could be one character from the show(guest stars included)who would it be?

Besides Lou (since I've already said I wanted to be her)...I think I would like to be...um...um...you know, I can't think of a single female guest star that wasn't annoying or vapid in some way! So I'll just stick with wanting to be Lou:)

Which ep is your fave and least fave and why?

I have two favorites...The Sacrifice, because of how HOT Kid is in that ep (especially the cemetary scene) and because he and Lou finally get engaged (although, that happened rather quickly in season three, and I think The Sacrifice should have come about halfway into season four)...

My other favorite is Lady for a Night. As much as I love Kid and Lou together, I think their relationship lost something after Requiem for a Hero. Before that, they were just so cute and innocent together, and Lady shows this really well. Plus, it's a great storyline, and it has my favorite TYR bad guy (Roger Rees, who played Tyler Dewitt) in it!

My least favorite ep (Jimmyholics don't kill me!) is The End of Innocence. Besides the fact that I just cringe at the thought of Jimmy and Emma together, that episode really just bores me to tears.

If you could meet one person-dead or alive-who would that be and why?

I hate this kind of question. I mean, should I say the great historic character, or the famous actor I have a crush on (there are lots of them actually), or just somebody in my family that I never got to meet but would like to? I guess today it would be any of the women involved in the early feminist movement. It would be great to get to talk to Susan B. Anthony, or Elizabeth Cady Stanton, or Margaret Sanger...

If you had five minutes on national tv to discuss any subject-what would it be and why?

I would LOVE to talk about women in Christianity and the different views and interpretations of what the Bible says about them, but that would take me a lot longer than five minutes, so I guess I would have to talk about why the TYR theme song should be the national anthem;)

Miss Raye

What is your name or TYR name?

I write under Miss Raye

How old will you be on your next birthday-include the date if you want?

Twenty nine... they’re holding onto the OVER THE HILL 30 stuff from my supervisor’s birthday this year.....

Tell us a little about your childhood.

I grew up in Hawaii, i’m the youngest, but the tallest of 18 cousins.. lol my dad is one of 6... i don’t have any sibs.. but i was very close to my mother. I’ve always loved reading. I stutter, those of you who know me.. have probably heard it. When I was a child... the others in my classes would tease my endlessly about it, so I used to read a lot.. I developed a healthy appreciation for the written word... I guess that’s why I love to write so much.

Are you married, have children?

Yes, for five years now. My son Darius is 4 and a rather precocious child. He’s not shy in the least.. and loves COWBOYS.. strange huh?

What do you wanna be when you grow up?

Do I have to? Sigh.. well, I would love to write, write and write ... and spend a lot of time with my son... maybe another child later...

I’ve always loved history and books.. maybe do living history presentations to schools?

What really annoys you the most?

Oh? I guess hedging or talking around a subject. It seems that a lot of the ‘board wars’ or problems in the fandom get blown out of proportion because people let things fester. Now I’m not saying to air your dirty laundry on ever public forum, but if you want to say something. Say it. Earlier this year we had some concerns aired on a message board... and it started a bit of a row, but it could have been avoided if those that had the concerns had contacted the site owners privately and discussed the problems. So I guess I’d like to ask that if you have a problem, try to solve it the direct way. I think you’ll find that things get resolved and there doesn’t have to be hard feelings or another war.

Who are your fave characters and why?

Emma, Jimmy, Teaspoon, Lou

Emma: one of the best female characters on TV and it had a LOT to do with Melissa Leo. She embodies the strength of Western Women... and “they’re not orphans when I’m around.” right then and there, her character was defined..

Jimmy: His character probably had the most development over the three seasons. From hot head to lawman with a heart.. Jimmy had a way with children and believed that no woman should suffer at the hands of an abusive man. Josh Brolin is an amazing actor and really made Jimmy Hickok his own.

Teaspoon: Anthony Zerbe is awesome.. he can act in any role! But with Teaspoon... well Teaspoon himself was a chameleon. A Station Master/ Lawman/Father he held the group together, taught them what they needed to survive and was there for them when things got tough. Although he had a fanciful streak in him a mile wide, he held a firm grasp of the world around him and tried to bring the ‘boys’ up right. Not only as riders, but men/woman.

Lou/Louise: okay.. one woman.. a whole bunkhouse full of GORGEOUS guys. awww.. tough life! no seriously.. she did have a tough life.. and she was tough as nails... she rode tall as any man.. but still managed to be a woman. a REAL woman. I still remember what lou told jimmy about wanting a cameo on a chain..... but those aren’t the things that make you a woman... sigh...such words were never more true. Lou and I share a common experience and I really feel a little tie to her for that reason...

When did you find the TYR sites on the web and start visiting them regularly?

May of 2000

Who was the first person that you had contact with from TYR land?

hmm.. the fans on the TYR Fan Fic List.. they gave me my start.. got me hooked on feedback.. so blame them ;)

Do you have a site or share a site with someone?

um.. yeah..

Riders Ranch: soon to be changing urls and servers.. and to be overhauled! Look for it.

Writers Ranch: the fan fic companion to Riders Ranch.

TYR fan gatherings.

Trail Tales: Behind the scenes stuff.

AYRF the fan fic Awards 2001

If you could be one character from the show(guest stars included)who would it be?

um.. how easy is that.. LOU! duh!

Which ep is your fave and least fave and why?

Two favs.. Blood of Others.. Elias was the best secondary character!! He was awesome!! Lady for a Night: mostly because of Emma...

Least? um.. Til Death do us Part and that other ep with Rosemary.. for obvious reasons..

If you could meet one person-dead or alive-who would that be and why?

Laura Ingalls Wilder ... I remember the summer that I read her series .. one after another.. I couldn’t put them down. She let me live her life with her, and it was like a magic mirror into the past. I’d love to meet her and talk with her, live the stories through her emotions and expressions.

If you had five minutes on national tv to discuss any subject-what would it be and why?

Lord, I don’t know.. I’d love to tell the world that the internet is not nec. a scary place. I have a lot of dear friends that i’ve met online..and it seems that people are so shocked when I tell them i’ve met people irl that i’ve only known from the internet.. sigh..
