The humid air in the bunkhouse stirred with a sudden breeze through the open window.

Lou turned over trying to get comfortable, which wasn't easy since she had on long johns in the heat. She looked around the room at the other sleeping riders, envious that they were able to go without shirts. Kid stirred and mumbled in his sleep. Cody swatted at a fly that had been bugging him all evening. It was Jimmy, sound asleep across the room that held her attention.

She watched him sleeping while her mind drifted back to the kiss they had shared while escorting Elias Mills to his hanging. The kiss had taken her by surprise. Just when she was letting herself get lost in his embrace, it ended way too soon. Since then, Jimmy had been a bit standoffish. So many times, her thoughts went back to that kiss and she wanted to do it again, to see if all the feelings Jimmy had stirred up in her happened again.

Lou thought about Kid and the way she felt when they had kissed. He had never made her feel the way Jimmy did with that one kiss. Kid never made her feel the way she did when she was with Jimmy, period. With Kid, Lou felt stifled, over protected and like she had to be someone other than whom she was. When Lou was with Jimmy, she never felt like anything other than equal to him. Jimmy knew she could take care of herself in a bind and she had proven it to all of the riders time and again. With Jimmy, Lou found herself smiling more, laughing and feeling like she was always accepted for herself.

For a long time, Lou had found her thoughts had been drifting more and more to Jimmy. He sure was easy on the eyes to look at too. She loved the way he wore his hair longer now, unlike when they first met and all of them had shorter hair. Her fingers itched to run through it even now just thinking about it. She loved to hear him talk and that grin, why it made her blood sing.

Lou groaned and grabbed her shirt from where it hung on the post of the bunk, took her journal and went out to sit on the steps as the sun rose. With the way her thinking was going, there was no way she was getting anymore sleep now. She opened her book and started writing.

Like restless winds, I can't sleep.
Confused feelings are stirring deep.
Feelings for you I'm not sure about,
One's that leave me in doubt...

Lost in her thought's, at first Lou didn't realize anyone else was stirring inside until she heard footsteps coming through the door. It was the man of her dreams. Sitting down beside her, shirt hanging open and feet bare, Jimmy asked, "Can't sleep Lou?"

She cleared her throat nervously before replying. "Too hot inside," ('In more ways than one.' she thought) "so I decided to watch the sunrise and do some writing."

"Wanna share what you wrote or is it for your eyes only?" he asked leaning against her arm with that sexy grin of his.

Closing the journal, Lou told him. "Maybe one day Jimmy. Maybe one day soon I'll let you read it."

Drop me a note and let me know what you thought!
