The bunkhouse was silent as the riders slept. A moan cut through the silence as Jimmy turned in his sleep, dreaming a dream he’d had a hundred times before. She had eyes for no one but him. The thrill that ran through him as she walked his way, sent shivers up and down his spine. His eyes were held captive by the soft seductive smile she gave him as she reached a hand possessively behind his head, guiding his lips lower to hers in a kiss so passionate it rocked him to the very depths of his soul. Without a word, she crooked a finger at him motioning for him to follow her… Jimmy muttered incoherently for a moment, then fell silent. The smoldering look in her eyes as she trailed a hand down his chest made him catch his breath. His stomach muscles contracted at her touch, sending him over the edge. Gathering her close, he surrendered to all the pent up desires as he let his mouth explore hers… He let out a low moan, “Lou…” “Damn it, Jimmy! Would you shut up?!” Cody complained kicking the bunk above him, trying to get some peace and quite so he could sleep longer. The thump to the bottom of his bunk woke Jimmy from his troubled sleep. When Cody’s words registered in his brain, he was terrified that he’d spoken out loud in his sleep again. ‘Please don’t let anyone know what I was dreaming about,’ he prayed rubbing his face with his hand. The physical effect of the dream was still with him, making him tremble as he looked across the room to where the lone female rider lay, sleeping in her bunk unaware of her effect upon her fellow rider. Feeling the need for some air, Jimmy slipped off his bunk. Careful not to waken Cody again, he threw his shirt on hurriedly, letting it hang open as he struggled with his pants nearly tripping himself in the process. Lou lie in her bunk, hand over her lips trying not to laugh out at Jimmy as he made his way outside, having witnessed his moaning and the soft call of her name from his lips. Cursing, he let himself outside where he stood on the top step, watching the first rays of dawn filtering over the surrounding countryside. The peacefulness of it all, helped settle his unrested mind. Lost in his own thoughts, Jimmy didn’t hear the bunkhouse door open. He jumped, startled when a hand grasped his shoulder causing him to suck in his breath. His head jerked as a voice said softly in his ear, “Maybe you should listen to your dreams…” Lou winked at him as she hurried down the steps and walked towards the barn. Half way there, she turned and smiled coyly at the still stunned man on the steps. Jimmy shook his head to clear his mind. ‘Did she just say what I thought she said? She had to know I was dreaming about her again,’ he told himself before taking off after her. He stopped in the doorway, allowing his eyes to adjust to the darkness inside the barn. He spotted her leaning against the back wall, as if waiting for him. He advance towards her, various emotions waging against each other, unsure of himself and what he was doing. The air was heavy with tension as he stopped in front of her, looking deeply into her eyes. His heart skipped a beat at the look of love that radiated from her very being as her eyes held his. “What did you say?” He needed to hear her say the words again, to be sure he had heard right. “Maybe you should listen to your dreams…” her voice trailed off as he took a step closing the distance between them. His eyes searched hers in the dimness, seeing what he needed to see in them his arms gathered her close, his lips searching hers. When he pulled away, Lou murmured, “Oh, for whispers in the dark…”
