Rebuilding A Life

Picks up after Return of the Carnival of Thrills

“Hey Candy honey, guess who just pulled into the driveway!”

“I don't know Bo darling, who is it?”

“It's Coy and he's got Trixie with him.”

“As long as he ain't got that little she devil Diane with him.”

Bo chuckled and opened the door. “Welcome back to Hazzard, cousin, I'm glad to see that you've come to your senses.”

Coy nodded after shutting the door behind him and Trixie. “Bo you were right, I must have been crazy to leave my family for that little two timing witch. “

Trixie smiled. “Coy baby, I'm just glad to have you back”

“Coy, is this just a visit or are you back here for good?”

“We're back here for good, Bo.”

“Coy, lets tell them the good news.”

Coy smiled at Trixie, then looked with a shy grin at Bo and Candy, “Well it looks like Luke and Karen ain't the only ones expecting a baby.”

Bo grinned. “That's great, cousin!”

Candy smiled, “How would y'all like to stay for supper we're having baked ham, sweet potatoes, hot biscuits, and apple pie.”

Coy exclaimed, “That sounds really great.”

Bo nodded. “Luke and me will help you clear that land tomorrow.”

Candy smiled, a twinkle in her eyes. “Daisy and I will take you shopping and get a few things one that little one.”

Coy sighed, “After everything that happened, I can't believe that y'all would be so kind to me.”

Bo patted his shoulder. “You were out of your head for a while, Uncle Jesse always said family is family, and good or bad… you're a duke and us dukes stick together.”

The weeks flew by and soon Coy and Trixie moved into their new house knowing that their faith in each other and the good lord would see them through despite the memories of what Diane almost cost them.

Late one night as Coy and Trixie were snuggling together,

“Darling, I can't believe that we've got our very own place and a brand new little one is on the way.”

“Coy honey, when I lost you I thought that I'd just die and when you came back… it was the happiest day of my life. “

The phone rang as Coy kissed Trixie on the lips.

Coy wondered out loud, “I wonder who could that be?”

Trixie reached over and grabbed the phone, her face turned red as she heard a ladies voice start to talk. She took the phone away for a second and glared at Coy. “It's that witch Diane and she wants to talk to you about your son she just had.”

Coy muttered. “I'll take it in the living room.”

Trixie threw the telephone down as he left. She started to cry and said out loud, “My god Coy what in the world are we gonna do?”

“What in the hell are you trying to pull you told me that you couldn’t get pregnant.”

“Well I didn’t think that I could after my last baby…”

“What do you mean by last baby?”

“Bo and I have a nineteen-year-old daughter Kara.”

“I take it that Bo don't know.”

“No, he doesn't. “

“With all of your lying, how in the world can I believe you?”

“I called you I'm dying the doctor found a growth and he said I have a few weeks, do you want to take your son?”

“I don't know I'll have to talk to Trixie-- Where does Bo's daughter live?”

“In Atlanta, she works at a bank and looks just like him.”

“Diane, I’ll talk to you tomorrow. Goodbye.” He hung the phone up and walked back into the bedroom where Trixie was.

Trixie squeezed his hand as he sat down. “Coy, I had the intercom turned on. I heard the whole thing. I love you Coy and I won't let a little child suffer because of that tramp. I'll help you raise this child but first I want proof that the child is yours.”

“Do you think that we should tell Bo about him having another daughter?

“He has the right to know.”

The next morning after Diane called back, Coy and Trixie decided to go to Atlanta to see Diane who looked nothing like her former self.

“Hello Coy and this must be the little wife…”

Trixie cut her off with an angry voice. “Diane, we want proof that this is Coy's child because I know what a liar and a cheat that you are. “

Diane asked the nurse who was checking her iv to get her doctor.

Doctor James Peabody came in a few minutes later and said, “ Mr. And Mrs. Duke, I'm ready to see if indeed that this child is yours.”

“Well Trixie, we'll know in a little while.” Coy said and followed the doctor of the room.

Doctor Peabody called Coy at home that evening. “Mr. Duke you are the father of baby John Doe.”

“Thank you, doctor.” Coy sighed and hung the phone up.

Trixie took a deep breath seeing the look on her husband’s face. “He is yours?”

Coy nodded. “Yes Trixie, he's mine.”

Three days later, Coy and Trixie and their lawyer met with Diane to sign the papers.

That afternoon Diane passed away.

Honeybee exclaimed after hearing a car pull up in the driveway. “Daddy, momma, they've got a baby with them!”

Candy raised an eyebrow. “Trixie's only fours months along! They must be baby sitting.” She smiled as they walked in the house.

Coy was very somber. “Bo, I've got to tell you something...”

“Honeybee, why don't you and Tammy take the little ones up to your room.”  Bo suggested and Candy echoed his words.

Honeybee smiled. “Okay.”

Tammy added, “We can watch cartoons.”

Bo waited till he heard the door to the girls’ room shut. “Coy, who's the little one? He sure is cute.”

Coy told Bo about Diane calling a few days ago, how the baby was his. He took  a deep breath before he blurted out, “There’s just no other way to say it. Diane told me something that you should have known long ago… Bo, you and Diane have a daughter. Her name is Kara, she’s nineteen years old and works at the first national bank in Atlanta.

Bo was stunned. “How could she keep this from me and rob me of all of those years?”

Candy suggested after a few moments of silence. “Why don't we try to find her? Chances are she may not know about you.”
