Darla backhanded Lindsey across the face. He rose immediately, fury in his eyes, and tried to punch her. She avoided it, of course, and laughed. "That's anger, my dear Lindsey. We're nearly through all of them."
"What about sloth?" he growled, teeth clenched.
Darla indicated his apartment with a sweep of her hand. "Right here, dear Lindsey. In the mess you inhabit. In the distressing lack of security you have." She pointed at his door. "You didn't even bother to get a state-of-the-art door lock. I'm offended. Well, at least we know that the lust is over and done with." She traced a finger down his chest.
To his shame, his eyes widened and his heartbeat quickened. She laughed, and looked at the clock above the TV. "One more to go."
There was a knock at the door. Darla sat herself elegantly in the leather recliner. Watching Darla all the way, Lindsey walked over and opened the door. A uniformed woman with painted eyebrows stood on the other side. Lindsey watched her inhale as she took in the devastation in his apartment. She said with a squeak, "Delivery for Lindsey McDonald."
"That's me," he said tightly. He signed for a large brown bag, and she left.
"I went to see your colleague Lilah, earlier," Darla smiled. "I told her how much I envy her. She has such a good life. A wonderful job. And such a pretty head."
"You didn't," Lindsey breathed.
"Oh, yes, I did," Darla said. She leaned forward, lips parted, watching him avidly.
Lindsey opened the bag. "You took it," he said in disbelief. He couldn't stop the grin spreading across his face. He looked at Darla and said cheerfully, "I'm sorry, was this meant to upset me?"
