Barbecue

Greatest Hits: songs of Russia; Ryan and Colin = sell; Chip and Wayne = sing
Of all the games that I had trouble seeing, this was the worst. Like I said earlier, I couldn't see Drew's desk area well, which kept me from seeing Ryan and Colin too well. And the camera in front of me blocked off Chip and Wayne. I remember three things from the game. At one point, Colin is demonstrating something with his hands. I'm squirming around trying to see what he's doing. It looks like he's playing an accordion. Finally! It occurs to me to look UP at the overhead monitors to see the action. Just as I look up, Colin stops. Oh well. Item number two, one of the songs involved a chicken. Towards the end of the song, Chip picks up a chicken and starts blowing into it. At the song's end, Chip tosses the chicken to the audience. Christina is convinced that Chip tossed the imaginary chicken to her. I suspect she's right. I could see Chip's face at that instance, and he had definite target in mind when he made that fowl throw. Item number three, after Chip threw the chicken and the song ended, Colin admonished the viewers that when you're blowing into a chicken, always make sure that you're blowing into the right end. I'm sure Colin said that to help ease the censor's heartburn at the thought of Chip blowing a chicken.

Two Line Vocabulary: Colin = captain of the Titanic (free vocabulary); Ryan and Wayne = officers
Another good scene game. I think they started the scene just before the iceberg hit. Colin's character was having a difficult time convincing his officers that they should be concerned about the approaching iceberg. The officers were rather lackadaisical men. At one point, Wayne put on headphones from a Walkman. Colin pulled them off saying that they haven't been invented yet. (Since when has WLiiA been concerned about whether or not an invention existed during the time of the scene?)

Living Scenery: Ryan and Colin = gamblers in Las Vegas (?); Nina and Vina = scenery
Yes, they brought back the twin belly dancers minus the snakes for this game. This was the first time I had seen Living Scenery since I missed its broadcast debut on the premiere. So I was very curious as to how the game worked. Since all the WLiiA men are tall, it was hard to tell Nina's and Vina's height. But they looked petite to me. A good thing too since I remember that at least one of them was picked up briefly. But overall, neither Ryan nor Colin was very physical with them probably a result of the costumes they were wearing. (Translation — not a lot of material but still within broadcast standards.) A couple of times, Colin seemed very puzzled by Nina's and Vina's actions. Once he announced that he was going to play Craps. The two ladies ran forward, faced each other, and took each others' hands forming the outline of the Craps table. Colin gave them one of his patented confused looks. After I saw Living Scenery played on the premiere episode, I realized that Wayne and Kathy Greenwood had rarely acted together. Each one was a separate prop. So it might have been the fact that Nina and Vina did most of their acting as a pair that threw Colin off. After the game, Drew asked Colin how the wife and kid were. Colin: "Who? Oh, them. They're fine.... I think. This won't air for several months, right? Yeah, they're fine." When Drew first asked Colin the question, Colin had just finished drinking some water and was putting down the glass. From Colin's reaction, I think the "Who?" was a genuine question. One of those — I was distracted, what did you say? — type questions. When he realized just what he'd asked and about whom, that's when Colin started to play the guilty husband. I could be wrong though. If the banter airs and it might, I'll revisit the interpretation.

About a week after I got home from the trip, several questions popped in my head. How did Nina and Vina KNOW how to play the game? Drew didn't give them explicit instructions. Even though their performance was a little different from what Ryan and Colin were expecting, it wasn't too wrong. So clearly Nina and Vina had practiced the game. But with whom? Ryan and Colin themselves? Some other pair? If it was Ryan and Colin themselves, did they know the women were belly dancers? Belly dancers who danced with snakes? I'm positive that Wayne and Chip did not know in advance about Nina and Vina for Song Styles. I'm not so sure about Ryan and Colin though. And it really doesn't matter since neither Ryan nor Colin was involved in Song Styles. But I'd still like to know.

Party Quirks: Chip = host; Wayne = wrestler showing off to the audience; Colin = James Bond with food poisoning; Ryan = dogs at a dog show
I remember Colin coming on and swallowing something. That's the full extent of what I remember for his quirk. Which is more than I remember for Ryan's, sad to say. Wayne is the performer I remember in this game. He came down to the audience and wrestled with a man in the front row. A little bit later, Wayne was up by the chairs yelling at the audience bragging about his abilities. The man seated in front of Dawn started yelling back, and the two got into a shouting match with Wayne egging him on. Suddenly the audience member leapt from his chair past the cameras, across the stage, and tackles Wayne up at the chairs. I honestly think Wayne had not intended for the man to leave his seat. I can't remember any performer calling up an audience member from such a distance before. I cringed. And when I say the man tackled Wayne, I mean TACKLED. No stage fighting for him; he hit Wayne full-tilt and Wayne went down hard on his side. I don't think Wayne was hurt but he was genuinely surprised commenting "You hit pretty hard!" after the game. Chip had trouble guessing all the quirks, but not as much trouble as Greg did the night before. If both Party Quirks games don't air, I'd guess that Greg's game airs and this doesn't. Because even though Chip guessed quicker and more accurately, Greg's game was funnier. But neither was a spectacular game.

Newsflash: Chip and Ryan = anchors; Colin = field reporter in front of fat women wearing brightly colored outfits
Like Friday, I spent the 97% of the game watching the anchors. I glanced up long enough to get an idea of the video. This game went better than Friday's. Based on the audience's reaction, the video itself was funnier. Watching Chip and Ryan, they seemed to have an easier time thinking of clues to give Colin. But I don't think this one will air unless they need to fill time.

Doo Wop: Wayne, Chip, and Colin
Once again, this was the first time I had seen Colin play this game. The only other playing I had seen at the time was when Ryan did it early in Season 3. I was surprised that Colin seemed to give a different reason for why the person had died. I was expecting him to finish the story the others had started. But he started his own. After watching the season premiere, I guess that's how he always plays the game.

Show Stopping Number: Wayne, Colin, and Ryan
No real memories.

Number of Words: exorcist; Wayne = possessed; Colin = Wayne's mother; Drew and Ryan = priests
Elyse gave me a copy of her taping description to help me remember which games were played. A lot of the specific roles that I'm listing on the game description line are based on her notes although the memories I'm reporting are mine. But I was stunned to read that this game was played. Not only don't I remember any specifics, I don't remember that they even played this game. And I love Number of Words! How could I forget that they played Number of Words? And as a Drew game even? Well, just so you have some idea what this game was about, here's Elyse's description of the game:

Before the game began, Wayne took one of the talking pictures of Drew and started signing "Somewhere Out There" lovingly to it. Then Drew came up and started spanking Wayne, which he seemed to really enjoy. This became a joke during the game, which was sort of an "Exorcist" type of scene. Wayne was possessed (5 words), Colin was his worried mother (3 words), and Ryan (4 words) and Drew (2 words) were priests coming to cure Wayne. Drew tried to spank the Devil out of Wayne. Ryan said, "We...need...to...exercise!" I don't remember much else.

Which is way more than I remember at all.

Themed Restaurant: Steven Spielberg movies; Drew and Chip = patrons; Ryan and Colin = waiters
I liked this game but in a funny bad kind of way. Drew and Chip did very credible jobs playing the restaurant patrons. The problem was with Ryan and Colin. They had a real hard time thinking of movies that they could incorporate into their waiter act. And even when they came up with idea, we didn't always understand what movie they were trying to convey. At one point, Ryan was on the Superheroes step and Colin was on the Party Quirks step. They're both laughing at each other and shaking their heads because they couldn't think of what else to do. Eventually they started incorporating the movie titles into their waiter act directly. I think I remember Ryan doing an incredibly bad pun using the Ark of the Covenant. The funniest bit was towards the end. Colin had crossed back over to the Superheroes step. Ryan was center stage behind the table having just delivered his line. Suddenly Colin comes running in a cartoon way across the stage, glancing behind him in terror. When he reaches center stage, he yells "GIANT MEATBALL!!" and crosses the rest of the stage. All three actors remaining on stage burst out laughing. Just when they've recovered, Colin runs down from the Party Quirks step back across the stage, "HERE IT COMES AGAIN!!" Just before the buzzer, either Ryan or Colin starts to do a gag involving the movie Dual but he never gets to flesh it out. After the buzzer, the four start talking about the movie — was it really a Spielberg film? They decide that yes, it was his first. When did it come out? Things like that. Like I said, I really enjoyed this one, but I'm not sure how it would come across on television. The fun was in watching Ryan and Colin on the sides, and I don't think we would get to see that on the broadcast. Still it would be nice to have this game aired, if only because it's a different type of Drew game and it involved Chip.

World's Worst: person to sit next to on an airplane; Wayne, Drew, Colin, and Ryan
Ever since I learned about Ryan hating to fly, I've always wanted someone to use him for this category of World's Worst. I finally got my wish. Ryan was Drew's first suggestion. I glanced over at Ryan; he didn't seem terribly offended, probably because he knew it was true. What happened to Colin was amusing. Several times, he stepped down one beat after another person. Realizing that someone else had the floor, Colin would pop back up on the step. This happened at least a half-dozen times. Completely accidentally. By about the fourth time, we're laughing at Colin's Jack in the Box routine. Finally, Colin claims the stage. And everyone applauds. I'm thinking to myself, "No pressure now, Colin. You've just got to be absolutely brilliant, that's all." To be honest, I can't remember what he said. The funniest set was Ryan's. He stepped down, mimed shoving something in front of him with his hand, glanced over his shoulder, and called, "How would you like your steak?" (hamburger?) Nobody laughed. The other performers stopped their thinking to stare at him. Colin is giving him that "what was that?" look. Annoyed, Ryan said something like "Because barbecuing on an airplane next to you would be funny." We all started laughing at how bad the whole thing was. So for the rest of the night, barbecuing become one of Ryan's catch references for unfunny that should have been funny.

Props: Wayne and Colin = a round foam disk with several cylinders hanging from it; Drew and Ryan = 2 white slender long pillows almost as tall as Ryan and very floppy
These were the props that did not get used Friday night. The prop Wayne and Colin used was sadly similar to another prop used last season. So similar that a lot of people thought it was the same one. It wasn't. This one had more cylinders hanging from it, and the cylinders weren't all the same length as before. But the differences were negligible. Because the prop was so similar to last years, Wayne and Colin's uses were similar. It's simple math really. Take two brains as before, give them the same input as before, you'll get the same results as before. So I don't really blame Wayne and Colin. I don't remember what Drew and Ryan did with their long pillows. I hope this game doesn't air.

Hoedown: an affair; Chip, Drew, Colin, and Ryan
I don't remember too much about this first Hoedown.

Hoedown: an affair; Wayne, Drew, Colin, and Chip
Nope, that's not a typo. Chip took Ryan's place at the end of the line up, and Ryan sat at the desk. Ryan announced that he didn't know what to do at the desk since he had never sat there before. Just before the game began, he was playing with the chair's height adjustment. (By the way, the chair is the new one we first saw in the 100th episode. One night, Drew said it cost $300.) Ryan raised and lowered the chair height for the fun of it, I assume. When Drew announced that Ryan was the winner, Ryan had the chair at its highest point. He ratcheted it down slowly in jerky motions so that he looked like he was bouncing down to the lowest point. Wayne's first hoe-down implied masturbation. He had to redo that. I don't remember what Drew sang. Colin sang about loving sex so much he even got excited when he saw a glazed donut. Chip's song was the best. In his city, there were lots of prostitutes. He was determined to have sex with all of them one by one. After his sexual encounter with his first prostitute, he announced that that was one ho down. After Chip's wham, bam, thank you ma'am ending, Ryan announced that Chip should take his place at the end of the line more often since he was so good at it. I wish I could tell you that this game will air. I'm not sure it will. Dan announced something rather puzzling just before this game, he said they had one and a half Drew games left to film. A half a Drew game??? I suspect they need a partial Hoedown to splice in with the first one. So they let Ryan sit out as a gift. Besides, I just can't see Chip's lyric getting past the censors. It might show up in a too hot episode though, so cross your fingers.
