Marguerite Krux is an enigma by all accounts. A woman of fire and steel she uses all her assets to get where she wants, and she never lets anyone interfer with her goal. Determined and a tad selfish, Marguerite craves knowledge and wealth, although the latter is more widly known then the former. A talented scientist and linguist, Marguerite has helped the explorers out of more than one scrape.

Marguerite Krux funded the doomed expedition with a single haunting visit to the Zoological Society. She promised the society and Professor George Challenger a bond to be used unlimitely. She came through with that promise, on the condition that she go along with the other explorers. Although there was heavy opposition to her demand, the need for money won out and Marguerite Krux was granted the permission to accompany.

At the beginning of the journey Marguerite came off brusque and self absorbed to the other explorers. Most were baffled by her single minded devotion to wealth, or her ease at deciphering foreign languages. In fact, Marguerite's search for gems and gold has gotten the explorers into trouble on more than one occasion. Unfortuantely, or fortunately, Marguerite always ends up with the better situation by using her knowledge to manipulate her way into more comfortable surroundings. On more than one occasion, although, has Marguerite used her knowledge to help the other explorers out. It does not always seem like it, but by her manipulations, she usually manages to get the best possible treatment for her fellow explorers. Also, Marguerite knowledge with languages has managed to get the explorers out of a couple sticky situations.

As previously mentioned, Marguerite did not get along with the other explorers at the beginning. She held them at arms length, and only aided them when it seemed in her best interest. She would constantly taunt Malone, whether through just plain bordom or the need to "censor" something the young reporter had written about her. Marguerite first opened up to Professor Summerlee and they proceeded to have a father/daughter relationship while he was still with them. Infact, it seemed like Marguerite was just as or more hurt than Veronica when the older man went over the waterfall. Marguerite's relationship with Veronica however, has always been a dicey one. At the very beginning Marguerite tried to sell Veronica to the Zanga chief for the way home, and jewels. Since then, Marguerite has described Veronica as a sister and obviously cares for the young woman quite a bit. Marguerite's relationship with Roxton is probably the most complicated. The hunter has from the beginning been captivated by the mysterious beauty, but through hints of problems in her past, Marguerite has kept the hunter at bay. Or at least has tried to. Roxton, determined to get through Marguerite's shield's has managed to weasle his way into her life, and with each passing day, Marguerite and Roxton get closer and closer together.

Marguerite's past is just as elusive as the woman herself. Wrapped up in secrets and lies, the other explorers know very little. In the beginning, nothing was known, then through little events more and more was learned about the mysterious Miss Krux. Marguerite was raised in convents and had no contact with her parent's growing up. If she did, she was too young to remember it. In fact, the main reason Marguerite came to the Plateau was to find out who she was. Hoping to retrieve the Ourborous in return for a birth certificate, Marguerite lost the chance to know her parents when she decided to stay with Roxton on the plateau instead. Marguerite spend time at a bar working as a singer and stealing jewels from the clients on the side. When her partner in crime was found out and killed, Marguerite was forced to flee with the jewels. Since then, Marguerite's past has been just as shady, and with every knew turn on the Lost World, more things become discovered, but are they for better or worse?
