Episode 2.07:

Goodnight Joe

Summary by Scott

Kelly is surprised to be awoken by a phone call from her father. She's not thrilled to hear from him (It's been so long since she heard from him that he thinks she's still engaged to Matt). He's in town and wants to have dinner with Joy and her. Kelly is happy about the thought of seeing her sister but has mixed feelings about seeing Dad. She finally decides "What the heck, why not?"

Carly finds out from Nat that she's got her old waitress job back. She then goes to take Zach to a state test to determine where he belongs in school.

At the store Brenda takes a call from Joe wishing Donna a Merry Christmas. Donna evades telling a curious Brenda the whole truth about who Joe is but Brenda realizes that something is definitely going on here.

Carly picks Zack up and discovers that he finished his test twenty minutes early. She then starts to get things together for dinner (She's having Steve, Janet and Clare over).

Kelly recieves a phone call from Joy at the office. She's a lot more optimistic about the dinner than Kelly is.

Valerie is looking after Maddy. Noah comes by and senses that Valerie is on edge about something. After Janet picks up Maddy, Val tells Noah about her pregnancy. She can't deal with talking with Noah about it and leaves.

She goes over to Janet and starts to talk with her about it, looking for support. Janet completely freaks out when she finds out Val has gotten pregnant when Janet can't. She throws Val out. She tells Steve about this and Steve can't figure out why Janet's reacting this way.

Donna visits church, still guilt-ridden about her fling with Joe. She consults her old friend Father Chris for advice (although she tries to be as vague about the details as she can and even pretends that it's someone else's problem). Father Chris pretty much tells her what she already knows-that she should stop hiding the truth and tell David (though not in those words since he doesn't know the details).

Steve and Janet continue fighting about Val all the way to Carly's and literally right to Carly's door. Carly soon finds out that she's not in for a quiet evening.

Brandon comes home from dinner with Kelly to discover that Jen has left a love note in lipstick on his door. She's also left eight messages on his answering machine.

An understandably confused Clare walks into the battlefield that Carly's dinner has turned into. Steve and Janet are still at it, in other words.

Lexi recieves a note in her mail from a secret admirer. She's thrilled.

Clare suggests that everybody take a look at Zach's baby book but it doesn't defuse the situation. Janet and Steve decide to leave.

Lexi has Michael and Megan over to help her figure out who her secret admirer is. They have absolutely no interest in helping her to find out.

Steve tries talking to Janet but it doesn't help the situation.

Noah visits Val the next day. Val doesn't want the kid. Noah doesn't take this well but goes with Val to the doctor.

Kelly picks Joy up.

Carly is asked to come to where Zack took his test. She asks Brandon to babysit. Brandon invites a friend, Mark, to his book party and picks up Zack. No sooner do they get back to Brandon's apartment than Jen turns up looking for Brandon. Annoyed and really wanting Jen to go away, Brandon drags Jen to Michael's apartmet.

Lexi decides to put an ad in the paper to find her secret admirer. Lexi places her ad with Steve.

Carly discovers that the test proves that Zack is a genius and entitled to $500 funding.

Valerie and Noah go to the doctors still continuing their fight but discover that Val has had a miscarriage. Noah verbally lashes out at Val and leaves.

Dylan finally steps back into his old house and gets a phone call from Gina who invites him to New York.

Dylan talks with Brandon and Steve. He tells them that the mystery man following them was a Marchetti thug. Dylan got help ditching him from none other than his old friend Bruno, the only Marchetti employee who had tried to help him and Toni. Bruno told him that there are various financial things that lead Bruno to think that Mr. Marchetti may still be alive.

Clare, alone at Now Wear This, (Donna didn't return when she said she would) endures a hellish sale.

Carly calls her friend in Montana to update her on everything.

Donna calls Claire to apologize for leaving her in the lurch. Her long lunch with David went very long... Donna then calls Brenda to ask her to dinner.

A drunken Noah visits Val to talk. She angrily throws him out. While she's doing it, she mentions how Janet and Kelly haven't been there either for her in this major life crisis, even though she needed them.

Much to Kelly's shock, her dad does show up for dinner.

Brenda meets Donna and David at the Pit. Donna invites Brenda along on the trip to New York, much to David's secret annoyance.

Brenda and Donna go to a club where Donna drinks heavily and confesses everything to Brenda.

Janet and Steve visit the After Dark. Janet goes into Dylan's office where she runs into Noah. Noah chews Janet out royally for the way she's treated Val. Light finally dawns on Janet and she rushes over to Val's to apologise (missing Faith Hill at the After Dark, but what the hey). Steve is relieved.

Dylan talks to Gina to tell her that he will come to New York.

Janet gets to Val's, learns about the micarriage and has a chance to make it up to Val by being there for her. She rises to the occasion.

Brenda drops a drunken Donna off at home. She attempts to cover for Donna but after Brenda leaves, a sleepy Donna tells David "Good night, Joe." David is understandably puzzled and a little worried.
